Summer is honestly the opposite of a manic pixie dream girl, in the sense that she's never available for the male protagonist romantically. and she's painted as. a villain because of that????

people LOVE to present this movie in the same light as a movie like lala land, where it's a movie about failed love. The difference is that the heartbreak in 500 Days is one sided, and because of that, many people hate Summer. Which i think is. Wrong????? idk idk hold on

From the BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE, Summer never ONCE defines her and Tom's relationship as a committed relationship, and she EXPLICITLY says she does not want to be someone's girlfriend. But she does still go through the "movements" of a relationship with Tom (for lack of a better word), and that is a heartbreaking situation, but that is only heartbreaking because Tom has his hopes up the WHOLE TIME for something she has SAID is not going to happen between them.

Tom cannot FATHOM that Summer doesn't want to commit to this, and that's honestly his own problem. And this is a problem I've actually gone through in my own personal life, so I do think i'm a bit more riled up about this than most people.

If in this situation, the terms between these two were never defined, and Tom is left the whole movie going "will she won't she", that makes more sense for him to be pissed. But she never ONCE makes this out to be ANYTHING other than casual.

If Tom couldn't handle that, that's his fault, I'm sorry. If you're in a relationship where you both don't want the same things,

LEAVE.

ITS SO SIMPLE.

Summer didn't want a real relationship with Tom, and wanted one with someone else. So?

"That's not fair to Tom!!" Yes it is.

If anything, Tom PRESSING SUMMER for a relationship she clearly doesn't want isn't fair, and he isn't respecting what SHE wants.

Have you considered.......she just doesn't want him like that? and she made that....fucking CLEAR??????

She has EVERY right to reject him, but she still agreed for something casual, Tom is the one that STUCK AROUND HOPING FOR MORE.

This might sound basic, but Summer does NOT exist for Tom. And she can do whatever she wants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She wanted something casual with Tom, and she did that, and Tom AGREED to that, then Toms getting mad at her for not wanting what he wants. And he literally has that line about how much he hates her??

Does this make sense????? idk

TLDR; Leave Summer alone, be mad at Tom.
