Stop. Sherlock lifts his eyes to read John’s face, and true to word, he finds not a single crease or wrinkle of amusement. Perhaps he went a bit too far. Did he? Probably. Sherlock straightens, and clears his throat – a tell approaching an apology. 

     “I didn’t mean to be insensitive.” 

He was doing so well ( at least he thought so ), but his next words fell faster than even his verbal filter could salvage. 

“– Jesus…” He ran a hand down his face, letting out a long breath.

“You promised you wouldn’t.”

“Sherlock-!”

“This is serious, damnit; I need to know.”

  She  throws her hands up in the air, in utter exasperation. ❛ That doesn’t exactly make me feel any better. ❜ Probably because she wasn’t actually JOHN. 

❛ Right. You’re not, are you? ❜  he mutters, a mental note voiced out loud. Molly’s not John. In a fraction of a  s e c o n d  he backtracks, and adapts. Be kind.
