If you thought that Egypt, or Saudi-Arabia, to have the world’s largest camel population - guess what - you’re wrong! It is the so called “impoverished country” on the Horn of Africa, Somalia, that has the largest camel population - more than all of the Arab countries combined! Somalia is said to have an estimate of 8,000,000 (8 MILLION!!!) camels! In comparison, there are around 170,000 camels in Egypt; and 165,000 in Saudi Arabia. Somalia — thanks to its large, fertile land — is home to the world’s largest camel population: ¼ of the planets’ camel population lives in Somalia; over 50% of Africa’s camel population resides within in Somalia! As a matter of fact, there are more camels than people living in Somalia!
