Someone pointed it out and now I can’t stop thinking about the fact that Zlatko and Kamski can be seen as foils.
1. They never leave the house
Luther implies Zlatko didn’t when Kara brings up the car they’re using:
(No other car is visible in the area.)
Kamski’s reclusivity is mentioned in the magazine The Mysterious Mr Kamski:
Zlatko’s mansion is decrepit and falling apart, while Kamski’s is luxurious.
2. They have servants who can’t leave
We get no clear evidence that either of them are deviant while they’re in their owner’s possession, and significant evidence that they aren’t.
Luther helps Zlatko move androids around and lifts heavy things. Chloe answers doors and dresses in bikinis.
3. They both like to torture androids
Zlatko’s is very explicit, there’s a whole scene about it. Some highlights:
His torture is physical and grotesque. He entertains himself opening androids up and putting them back together in the most horrifying ways possible.
Kamski’s approach is psychological.
He welcomes an android into his home, then dangles a prize (and a hazard) in front of him: if Connor performs a task, Kamski will answer a single question. Note that Kamski knows full well what happens to androids that fail their missions (what else do you do with faulty hardware?), and Connor is being given new, completely unnecessary opportunities to fail by not completing a task or asking the wrong question. He doesn’t have to do this, he could just tell him what he needs, or he could just refuse point-blank and not make it a function of Connor’s performance.
This already seems over the top, but ok. So what’s the task Connor has to–oh. It’s a test specifically designed to provoke empathy by causing overwhelming distress and moral quandry? … In a deviant hunter?
First of all, that is some blatant poetic irony there. Second of all, Connor is working the highest profile case Cyberlife has. If Connor scratches his ass, Cyberlife will know, because Connor is interviewing Elijah Kamski, and Cyberlife is bound to be paying attention. (Note that this is obvious even without accounting for Amanda.)
Thirdly, let’s consider that from the start again, because Kamski is trying to provoke so much stress and conflict in a deviant hunter that it would (apparently hopefully??) rather die than follow through.
All the while, Kamski’s got faces like this:
In addition to the situation , Kamski is circling behind Connor, touching him, pressing into his personal space, whispering and murmuring and staring him right in the eye the whole time. He’s putting as much pressure as he can with tone and body language while still maintaining his own image.
When the test is over, he doesn’t even stop. No matter what Connor does, he still stops him (physically or otherwise) and keeps poking at him, getting up close and asking with flagrantly useless sympathy:
And if Connor does show empathy? God does he rub it in. He calls Connor a deviant in front of god and man (again, Cyberlife is paying attention), drawing it out long enough that the subtitles don’t even fit on the same screen.
Connor (obviously distressed) denies it, and he keeps pushing three more times for extra measure. Because god forbid Connor try to cover his ass and not get labeled as the one thing Cyberlife has sent him to destroy and that they’d recall him for being if they could.
Anyway, in conclusion Kamski deliberately puts Connor in a position of deliberate extreme distress, keeps him there if he can, and then keeps poking around for more sore points.
Zlatko’s torture is physical. Kamski’s is psychological, and they’re awful.

Is Connor psychologically abused by Cyberlife/Amanda?
So this popped out on a post by (originally) “Taranoire” and I really wanted to address to this topic. - [read original post HERE]
The short answer is “yes”, he is not physically abused by Cyberlife (and/or “Amanda”), as he states (when Gavin Reed propose to beat the android that killed his owner during the interrogation) “androids don’t feel physical pain as humans do, and Reed will only damage it, and that won’t make the android talk”, plus, “deviants have a tendency of self-destruct under pressure”. Then Connor proceeds to suggest he might be able to get a confession out of the suspect/deviant when every other cop has failed. And of course, Connor knows exactly how to do this because he knows first hand from his creators what is psychological fear at its best.
So even if he is not “damage” physically like (let’s say) Kara or Ralph, Connor is indeed psychologically abused as sh*t. - As I’ve covered before, we already establish that the “Connor line” was designed to be a “deviant”. He has feelings and emotions from the start, what Connor doesn’t have is freedom. - But he can feel everything, even if he remains a “machine”. And what better way to control someone than by fear? - He’s under the constant terror of deactivation (death) if he fails his mission [even if gets to upload his memory to a new body, truth is, if he fails to convince Cyberlife/Amanda that he is up to the task, he’ll be decommissioned and “die”, as we see if he fails to locate Jericho on the “last chance Connor” chapter], and his journey is more about having the strength to do something about this (and facing his own fears, like a typical psychological victim of abuse) rather than catching deviants (again, there is a reason why he can choose to suicide at the end of the revolution, preventing Cyberlife to “hack him”, and gain once again control over him, like a woman who runs from her home and prefers to die rather than coming back).
Even if he accomplish his mission at the end he’ll be decommissioned (killed) by Cyberlife to replace him with a newer better version, the RK-900. And you can clearly see how “machine” Connor is hiding and bottling up all of his emotions at the news of being replaced even if “he did everything Cyberlife/Amanda asked for”. - There is a feeling of injustice, an emotional shock…
The avatar of Amanda (we, the players, don’t know who’s behind it, only that this Zen Garden interface was designed by Elijah Kamski itself and this “Amanda” isn’t the real one, since the real Amanda died, and her face was used by Kamski to design an interface that made (Kamski) feel more “comfortable” with, since the real Amanda was his teacher), imparts orders to Connor in behalf of Cyberlife, so we can assume that everything has being smoothly planned, up to the point of every reply and order Connor receives.
Let’s all remember even if he has access to an infinite intelligence (as pointed by Kamski) and unlimited information, Connor is only about 3 months old. He lacks completely the experience given by real life interaction with other people, and most likely the first interaction he ever had was with “Amanda”. - There is the ever lasting promise of a certain “love” from her, that Amanda will be contempt and proud of Connor, but no matter how happy he makes her, she will reply with a sort of ambiguity pushing him even further, “You’ve done well Connor”, almost instantly followed by a “…but you could have done better”.
The entire body language Connor expresses with Amanda tells about someone who is terrified of the other person. He doesn’t move or speaks unless Amanda does it first (or asks something to begin with). All activities on the Zen Garden are commanded by Amanda. She wants to take a walk under the rain?, Connor will have to follow her holding the umbrella,
she wants to go on a boat ride?, Connor will have to row…
When in real life interactions, you see Connor thinks this is “ok” and how “things should be”, as for instance when Hank is mad at him for “following him around like a poodle” and Connor looks confused as to why Hank gives him a certain freedom of choice. Plus, every time he disobeys Hank is because one of his orders contradicted one of Amanda’s orders, and Connor is widely more terrified of Amanda than anyone else in the world. - Every time they speak you can see how Connor consciously suppresses his facial expressions and considers “lying” to her about his feelings, emotions or even his attachment to Hank, since he thinks this will make him look “weak” (and replaceable in the eyes of Amanda).
It’s quite clear they have an extremely abusive relationship, even if work, consider Connor has no friends, family, or anyone else (he only has Amanda). He can’t go and run to anyone else looking for help… and Amanda seems determined to cut every tight/friendship Connor makes as stated “not even Hank can interfere” giving Connor a clear example of that if Hank’s a problem to Amanda’s interest, Connor should either ignore him or kill him. - Connor always blames himself, even if he’s not to blame for something. He instantly assumes that whatever is wrong, it must be wrong because is his fault.
As stated by “dc-200”: ‘It’s kinda funny and kinda sad how Connor is this character full of power and capability and authority when he needs to be, and yet he spends most of the game pliant and yielding, expecting to be reprimanded, expecting disappointment, and having almost no idea how to handle it when those around him react with approval instead of disdain.’
And also noted by “tc-lp”, if Connor goes deviant, in the Night of the soul, he will feel so responsible for what happened at Jericho that he walks to Markus literally absolving him from his own murder in case “Markus doesn’t trust Connor” (and ends up shooting him in the head). Connor is literally telling Markus that “it’s alright if he chooses to kill him, because he (Connor) knows that it’s all his fault”. - And if he “wins”, Connor will have to live the rest of his life in constant terror of Amanda or Cyberlife hacking him again…
So, what do you guys think?
((I personally think this is…hmmm… quite sad… especially for a character that is technically the one who’s in charge and with the police, Markus gets love from Carl for years, and even Kara from Alice, while Connor has being alive only for 3 moths it’s terrified all the time…and just look at him while trying not to cry it only makes things worst…))

Ahhhhhhhhhhh I love you too!!
Do you think that when North is tired and someone catcalls her then Connor would take the comment and/or get all sassy with the catcaller? That he'd just basically try to make them uncomfortable and get them to go away
if you cat call north you best fucking HOPE that you have to deal with connor and not north, because then you might get to walk away with your balls intact. otherwise, well, you had it coming
Markus: And remember, murder is never the answer.
North: Murder is the question.
Connor: And the answer is yes.

North and Connor Drabble
She’s angry today. Everything has piled onto each other into one massive shit show, each mishap and fallback of the past week blaring their bright lights at her until she feels suffocated under their lack of progress in the revolution. The past days have built upon each other in an effort to push her into exploding, and now today every single misfortune that finds itself on her shoulders may be the one to push her right over the edge.
She’s free, but the politicians still look at her like she’s fresh meat, and the women turn their noses up at her when she tries to fix the buckle on her jacket in the bathroom. It’s humiliating in ways she thought she had left behind. The burn of anger in her processors is so familiar, and yet it hurts all the same when her mind tangles itself into a further knot of rage and frustration.
She thought she’d be used to the humiliation by now, but she’s not. She’s still impossibly angry, and it’s misery. She wants to be free of it, but every time she thinks of her past, or her present, or god forbid, her future…
She has to stop walking sometimes and lean against the closest wall, eyes squeezed shut as she fights back the red in her vision, forces herself to calm down. She takes measured breaths in an attempt to sync up her thirium pump and calm down.
She manages. She always manages. One day, she won’t have to.
Today, especially, is testing her.
Everything is so entirely fucked up, and it’s not getting better, and the anger peeking through the cracks in her interior are starting to show in how she stomps down the hallway, walking too quickly, face twisted into a promise of demise to whatever poor soul tries to speak to her next.
It’s not fair. She’s pissed, and she needs to go cool off. She’s gotten better at it, but sometimes she doesn’t want to. Sometimes she wants to explode— scream and kick and destroy something— if nothing else than to have something to testify to how angry she is.
Today is one of those days.
Still, she doesn’t want to take her fury out on some helpless bystander, so she starts off towards the rec room in Jericho. If nothing else, she could drag out the boxing dummies and knock them around until her stress levels evened out again.
Thankfully, no one within their right mind even attempts eye contact with her. She’s practically vibrating with rage, and it must be oozing off of her as she walks down the halls, because everyone leaves her alone. It’s just as well, because she knows for a fact that the next time she opens her mouth, it will be to yell obscenities.
And then she rounds the corner to see Connor, who she’s not sure has ever been in his right mind to begin with, because he is either utterly oblivious to her foul mood, or just suicidal enough not to care.
Judging from his volunteering to invade Cyberlife Tower, she’d guess it’s the latter.
“North.” He calls for her, stepping forward when he sees her approaching. He has the same impossibly impassive look on his face that he always has, but there’s something in his eyes that she doesn’t have the patience in that moment to wonder about.
She glances at him, but doesn’t stop walking. She can’t. If she stops walking now, she’ll inevitably end up destroying Connor, and she doesn’t want to do that. She normally doesn’t mind him much, but just the thought of being interrupted— made to pause in where she needs to go just to chat—
It will only add to the shit fest piling on top of her shoulders, and she’s already so fucking done with today—
Apparently it doesn’t matter, because Connor doesn’t even bat an eye at her pointed snuff at his presence. He simply falls into line at her side, and begins walking with her.
It’s almost worse.
She has to tell herself that she will not tear Connor’s head off. He hadn’t done anything. He just had the misfortune of coming across her—
“I wanted to ask you about the meeting with the police commissioner, I was considering taking out—”
“Connor, I swear to god—” She rounds on him, fully prepared to brush him off and make a hasty retreat (or murder him. She hadn’t decided.) but pauses at the look of slight bemusement on his face. “What?” She snaps, voice far harsher than normal.
“You changed your hair.” He tells her, eyes twinkling.
Her hands twitch as if they have a mind of their own and are considering reaching forward to wrap around Connor’s neck, even though it wouldn’t do a lot of good.
He was wasting her fucking time— Was he yanking her around on purpose? Just stating the obvious to waste her fucking time?
Her voice comes out far more strained than she means it to. “Yes. Connor. I did.”
He is unblinking at her tone. “It looks good.”
“It—” She blinks at him. That is certainly not what she was expecting him to say. Connor rarely gave his opinion on things— hell, rarely talked unless spoken to. Markus and Simon were still fighting to get him to open up and express himself, and from what she saw, it was a struggle. It had only been a few weeks since the ceasefire, and most androids were still struggling with understanding where they stood in the world, and who they were supposed to be, but Connor struggled with it far more than the rest.
This unprompted sharing— it means something. She knows it does, she just doesn’t know what.
She must have taken too long to respond, because Connor is speaking again. “You do that a lot. You never leave it in the same style.” He pauses for a second, and she can practically see the clogs in his mind turning over each other before he speaks again. “It suits you. The changing hair.”
The anger has been mostly surprised from her mind, but her words don’t immediately reflect that. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” She practically hisses. Even in her fogged mind, she already feels a little bad for that. Only twice had she ever seen Connor say anything maliciously, and each time had been towards abusive humans.
He pauses again, eyes floating away from her and to the wall instead. He seems to have taken the question literally, and he’s not offended when he speaks again. “Is it alright if I’m not completely sure?”
She’s taken aback by him again. Connor struggled with his self concept, but damn if he wasn’t one of the most honest motherfuckers in the damn place. He knew how to lie about the little things— how to lie in speeches and in front of the cameras— but he didn’t know how to lie about himself yet, or about his feelings. He could put on an act, but he couldn’t shape himself.
Instead he was earnest and honest in everything concerning his feelings or emotions. He spoke what was there, and he didn’t twist himself into knots to fit other people’s predesigned concepts of him.
He was Connor, and nothing else.
She doesn’t want him to learn how to shadow himself.
The anger from before is still there pulsing at her temples, but it’s dulled and looser— easier to push away.
Connor is still staring at her, fingers fiddling in his pocket where she knows he keeps change. It’s another thing he hasn’t mastered of himself— how to hold still.
She can’t help it. She throws an arm around his shoulders and tugs him with her. “Don’t you ever change Connor, you hear me?”
She can see him blink in her peripheral vision. “I’m not sure what you mean.”
She leads him further on towards the rec room. “That’s okay. Doesn’t matter. Are you free?”
“Until Markus arrives back, yes.”
“Great. I need a sparring partner.”
North so beautiful . Shout out to my North Protection Squad <3.
