South Norwood Street Improvements & Public Drop-In Event, 5th December
We are significantly improving South Norwood. There are plans to improve the street scene of South Norwood in a series of phases, concentrating on areas that have been chosen by you.
The council has been drawing up proposals for areas in South Norwood based on the information gathered through consultation events that occurred earlier this year, where local people came together and told us what they would like to see in South Norwood and which key areas to focus on for this ÂŁ1.65m project.
A great emphasis has been placed on creating generous and high quality public spaces that have a real identity that relates to South Norwood.
Please join us at a public event on Saturday 5th December 2015 between 10.00am to 2.00pm to view the emerging street improvement proposals which mainly look at improving the junction of Portland Road and High Street, in Station Road and in Market Parade, Portland Road.
We look forward to seeing you at: Lower Hall at Stanley Halls, South Norwood Hill.
The plans will also be available to view in South Norwood Library and at the Stanley Halls cafĂŠ for one month after the event.
If you are unable to attend the event but want to know more please email Tony Kavanagh on: [email protected] or download and view the plans online at: www.croydon.gov.uk/southnorwoodregen

Find out how Croydon is changing on the Connected Croydon walking tour tomorrow from 2pm to 4pm. The tour, which takes place as part of Open House London weekend, focusses on the ÂŁ50m programme of public realm and infrastructure projects currently being delivered in central Croydon, transforming London's biggest borough.Â
Meet at 2pm outside East Croydon train stationâs main entrance in George Street, CR0 1LF.
Find out about other events taking place for Open House weekend in Croydon http://news.croydon.gov.uk/open-house-croydon-to-take-place-this-weekend/
The council has welcomed the governmentâs confirmation of the compulsory purchase order (CPO) to bring together the land for the ÂŁ1billion Westfield/Hammerson development in the town centre as a historic moment for Croydon residents and a massive step forward in the regeneration of the borough. Watch the council leader Councillor Tony Newman give his reaction.
Alongside the Old Town Masterplan Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans (CAAMPs) for the conservation areas that lie within Old Town were adopted. These are the Central Croydon, Church Street and Croydon Minster Conservation Areas. The CAAMPs are available at the following weblink: www.croydon.gov.uk/caamps. They describe the special character of the conservation areas and how it should be preserved and enhanced.

As part of the improvements to Croydon Old Town, St Johnâs Memorial Garden is being refreshed.
The first phase, delivered over the summer, included crown lifting overgrown trees (removal of lower branches), and felling others to make the garden more open and welcoming. A community bulb planting day was also organised in November.
We are investing an initial ÂŁ2m to transform the area around East Croydon Station and George Street, as part of the overall regeneration of the town centre.
We have worked with TfL to pick 17 locations around Croydon that tally with the Connected Croydon programme and the Legible London signage. The idea of the trail is that it is walkable within 2 hours and it should encourage people to walk around the centre and discover places they may not have been to before (Wandle Park, Old Town etc.). You can download a map of the trail here or get the Year of the Bus sculpture trail app from here.
The artwork on each of the sculptures is by a different artist, some of which are from Croydon. Many of the themes for the artwork are inspired by Croydon. The sculptures will be auctioned off for charity next year.
Local young people from the Turnaround Centre in Croydon participated in a screen printing workshop on Wednesday 3 December.
Join us for a community bulb planting day:
On: Saturday 22 November from 10am to 1pm
At: St Johnâs Memorial Garden, Church Street, Croydon CR0 1RN
