people say that coilshot is just ragebaiter x ragebaited but i present my own interpretation

so we know how it starts off. coil starts coming into the cafe (with skate) and unintentionally kinda annoys sling a little. he decides to do a funny and is annoying on purpose until he gets kicked out. can’t resist messing with people a little. we know this

HOWEVER. there’s something about sling. eventually slingshot got better at ignoring him. stopped kicking him out. stopped yelling. you could catch his eye twitching and his hands clenching, but he had to ignore it. can’t let anyone “distract” from his work, right? surely if he stopped giving him attention, he’d stop coming back. and this ITCHED at coil. but he didn’t know why. he just knew that the lack of attention bothered him.

so coil keeps coming back, by himself, being a little more reserved. of course, slingshot’s suspicious of this, but you can’t really kick someone out on the premise of being too quiet. he notices himself hanging around coil a little bit whenever he showed up. and coil noticed too. at first, to keep him in check. sometimes there’d be words between orders. rarely, conversation.

slingshot tries to tell himself it’s to keep business running, but he knows it’s not true. he caught himself wondering about the next time he’d see him again. sometimes the days seemed longer without him. coil couldn’t be there every day, of course, but at the same time, why not?

he started getting orders wrong, jumping a little when the door opened, having to scold himself for dozing off handling shipments because he was daydreaming. originally, it was togetherness to keep his mind focused, but now he was disheveled and clumsy when they were apart.

okay so let’s imagine that around THIS point is when skate started bringing coil with him when he’d hang out with slingshot and boombox. sling and coil were kinda sticking away from each other at first but skate and boom are close enough that sometimes it just really isn’t feasible.

so they started talking to each other and coil is ENAMORED by this version of slingshot. there’s less of a filter when he’s not at work. a little warmer in demeanor. more vulgar. and seeing each other back in a business setting was driving both of them up the wall. so they started hanging out by themselves, just the two of them. and i feel like for these two the pining wouldn’t end in a confession. both of them are the couple thinking they’re playing gay chicken wondering when the other one’s gonna give it up. they’re practicing behaviors that are usually considered super affectionate with each other and they barely even realize it

anyways sorry for writing a whole thesis in your inbox it took me almost an hour. it’s 12:04 and i need my rest so bye bye

Okay. Genuinely. Like.

I love this, because. Two things we need to remember about Slingshot. Number one, he was TRAINED TO BE A DARKAGE WARRIOR. HE HAS BEEN TRAINED TO JOIN LIKE. Basically the army????? And number two, HE IS ALSO A RAGEBAITER! Slingshot's badge is literally "Mosquito," he is KNOWN to be annoying, this is part of his character.

He might be annoyed by Coil's infinite ragebaiting, but Slingshot is like. The master of this shit, okay. You cannot beat him at his own game.

He'd be curious of Coil, I think. A little annoyed, mostly just wanting to learn more about him.
