Carter frowned slightly. “Adam’s gone? Where did he go? Is he coming back?” She didn’t like the thought of Adam just up and leaving somewhere without telling Conley. If her baby was unhappy, she was unhappy. And she wouldn’t stand for Adam making Conley unhappy.

"he went to find the dragons" he told her "he's coming back after he finds them, but i don't know when that's going to be. I wonder if it could be years before that happens. I hope it's not"

I guess you could say that. No one ever hit me, but that wouldn’t be a surprise if they did. My whole family called me stupid and wanted me to get married to some wealthy guy. But I didn’t want that, not at all.
