to confront the familiar

GOD DAMN this movie effed me up. Having sworn off horror since Midsommar I could smell the cultural phenomenon that was Obsession from the minute I first heard of the film. Got an invite and went to see it. It broke me. Flashbacks to my codependency in college where I felt like this demon. My codependency was so bad it felt demonic possession. From 19-22, deep obsessive issues. Being set up to be this possession from magazines and other media from girlhood, coming from trad background, I was like a Young Girl TM. I received my program and my sole purpose was Girlfriend and Loving My Boyfriend. He was distant, suffering from his own traumas. I am so grateful I followed the call of my healing to study Buddhism, meditation, yoga, and surfing. I went to other countries intentionally to transform myself. And it worked. However Obsession triggered that piece of me, the Young Girl TM I used to be. I haven’t seen this take yet of what this brought out in me. Culture breeding young women to be obsessed. I freed myself. But what a horror it had been. I even wrote a short story during college of what it felt like to be under that spell. Because the mental illness of codependency is spell-like. I found the tools to heal it. I hope all codependents find their way.
