  ryan woke up groggy and with a dull ache behind his eyes. the dream   still throbbed in his skull like a pulse, though its details had grown fuzzy.   he reached out to the person that was supposed to be beside him when   he woke up, but all he felt was the cold sheets burning his the plam of   his hand. it was real, the dream, it was all dream. the screaming, the   crying, the crashing sound of objects thrown across the room of their   appartment. slender fingers pinched the bridge of his nose, sigh after   sigh leaving his chapped lips. he got ready to face the other, who might   have even left, but at the sound of sweeping downstairs clarified that   they were still here. before he could even open the door, harsh words   filled his head, which might’ve been the words the other had shouted   at him the previous night. a bad mood instantly washed over him like   he had already forgotten that he wanted to apologize. it hadn’t been   his fault, the fight. ignoring whatever was in his way, ryan stormed into   the kitchen for his usual cup of coffee, face twisted in anger.

the sun had just peaked over the top of the next building when she woke up. she had climbed out of bed, half upset and half angry. she hated that she loved him so much. she was supposed to be independent. she was supposed to be a strong woman who would never let a man speak to her the way ryan did. but god, she loved him anyway. she quietly walked towards the bathroom and examined the consequences of last night — black smeared mascara all over her face and bloodshot eyes. she washed her face, feeling the tears threaten to fall once more. fuck. stop it, hailey. recollecting herself, the brunette headed towards the living room where shattered glass was scattered across the room. more proof that the night before had not been just a nightmare. it had taken her at least an hour to completely clean up the mess they had made. a cut on her leg stung, a result of her being an idiot and accidentally scraping herself with some broken glass. it had taken her another hour and a half to prepare breakfast. bacon, pancakes, toast, eggs, grits. she cooked everything she could find in the kitchen to take her mind off those vehement words they had thrown at each other. when she heard stirring from upstairs, hailey began to brew a pot of coffee. she looked at him when he arrived to the kitchen, he was undeniably still angry about last night. she didn't speak to him, rather just placed a plate in front of him and poured his coffee.
