Fic Recommendations

I read a lot of fanfiction (I read a lot in general, I just also happen to read a lot of fanfiction). This blog was intended to be a place where I could actually write down some of my thoughts on individual works. Previously (as you can see in the pictures below) I have kept track of my reading on all pieces above 10k words in a Google Sheets document so that I can keep track of trends.

Right now I’m mostly reading BTS fanfiction, so by and large this will be a BTS fanfiction recommendation blog. But honestly I occasionally dip into other fandoms - The Untamed, KinnPorsche, James Bond, Magnificent Seven, etc. At this precise moment I’m digging through the Jikook tag chronologically, but I recently finished reading the Namgi tag so I’ll probably go back and pull some recommendations from that.

Recommendation: I adore a good heist fic and this delivers. You don’t expect where this is going to begin - kind of in the middle - but it’s a great character study of a man trapped by circumstance and afraid to fight those circumstances until presented with a hope that is dashed. Just very interesting and clever.

Recommendation: Again, I am absolutely weak for a reality TV fusion. In this case, Jimin is a wealthy man recovering from a bad case of being caught gay in public so he becomes a contestant on a Bachelor-like reality show. It’s a premise that’s been done before - but what works here specifically is the characterization of Jimin. He’s scared and uncomfortable, human in the way he doesn’t want to hurt people. His handler being confident gay Min Yoongi? A perfect romance.

Recommendation: Divorced art curator Namjoon returns back to Korea and immediately falls into lust with autistic Jungkook. It’s a really interesting character dive, the kind of thing that is more than the sum of its parts.

Recommendation: Love a premise that’s basically a romantic comedy - Yoongi and Seokjin have friends in common, but aren’t close. Yoongi is holding onto something from all the way back in college - but there’s a twist - they have to take a long road trip to Hoseok and Namjoon’s wedding. Together. No murderous hotels will stop them. The characterization here is great, it’s a lot of fun.

Recommendation: Cautionary closeted Kim Namjoon just wants to make it in the underground rap scene and he has a devastating rivalry with one of the most talented rappers in town: Min Yoongi. But what happens when Yoongi gets hurt and the person who is there to pick up the pieces is Namjoon?

Just excellently well written - tw for homophobia and some off screen (but depicted) gay bashing.

Fic: the Rightish Reasons

Recommendation: I am particularly weak for reality show AU’s and this one - where in-need-of-rehab gay actor Kim Seokjin is wooed by a bunch of other gay men on a legally distinct gay Korean bachelor? Ideal. It’s so fun, especially if you know the tropes, and I love the way all the relationships build over the course of the fic.

Fic: Get a Shift On

Recommendation: A sweet kind of meet cute hybrid rom-com. Ymmv, of course, but I loved the way that everyone was written -especially the friendship between Yoongi - Namjoon - Jimin. This felt really great.
