Top Ten Items Congoers Commonly Forget
One of the most important steps towards a successful convention experience is being prepared. There is a reason that itâs the scoutâs motto. As it happens, we were both boy scouts in our youth. Itâs probably one of the driving forces behind this project. So without further ado, here is our top ten list of items congoers commonly forget.
10. Sweater/Sweatshirt - Conventions centers are interesting places. There are big rooms, small rooms, rooms with lots of people, rooms where you walk around a ton, and rooms you have to traverse the outdoors to get to. Temperatures can vary from room to room. Itâs smart to have an extra layer that you can put on or take off as the situation demands.
9. Notebook and Pen/Marker - Your mileage my vary on this depending on your mission, but notebook and pen can come in handy if you want to take notes during a panel or have to fill out a form. A marker is helpful in case you have an opportunity to get an autograph, but the creator or celebrity doesnât have one.
8. Extra Bag - You never know what you might find at a convention, and you can have a full backpack before you know it. We recommend having an extra bag or tote that folds up easy for storage, but can be pulled out when needed. If you forget, then vendors sometimes have grocery bags available, or totes they give away with a purchase.
7. Snacks - There are food kiosks all over the showfloor, but if you want to save some money, we recommend bringing snacks. Good choices are granola bars, trail mix, and bananas, just to name a few. They can help you make it to the next meal.
6. Water Bottle - Bottles of water are available, but usually at a premium price. Like with snacks, you can save money by having your own water bottle that you can refill at drinking fountains.
5. Survival Kit - A Survival Kit is a small container or pouch that contains some just in case items. The ones we most recommend are hand sanitizer, pain reliever, and bandaids. These items can often be found around the convention center, but it helps to have them in your pack.
4. Protective Gear - This is kind of a broad category that includes, but is not limited to, bags and boards for comics, poster tubes, and hard top loaders for cards and prints. Your need of these items will vary by mission, but it is important to plan ahead. They are available at the show, but when supply is limited and demand is high, then price will also be high. Save yourself some money and stress and be prepared.
3. Phone Charger/Battery Pack - Many of us rely on our phones for so much these days. Youâre going to be taking pictures, posting to social media, checking the schedule on the con app, etc. This all uses battery power, and if you donât have a back up plan, your phone will be dead before the showfloor closes.
2. Cash - Mobile card readers have come a long way in recent years. As a result, many vendors accept cards. However, not all do, and the technology doesn't work 100% of the time. Itâs important to have cash on hand to do business quickly and effectively (cash always works). It also makes it easier to keep track of your spending.
1. Badge - A con badge is like cash in that if you lose it, it canât be replaced. If you forget it at home, they wonât be able to let you in. Many a convention experience has been ruined by a lost or forgotten con badge. Donât be one of those people.
There you have it! Our official top ten list of items congoers commonly forget. It goes without saying that you need a quality bag or backpack to carry all of this helpful stuff. Make sure that the pack you take to the convention is reliable.
