          Betsy. Rachel grimaces. Psylocke’s mind is a minefield, the cracked, unfamiliar ground made all the more treacherous by the delicacy of her current emotional state. Rachel hasn’t had the time or energy to traverse through it with the care such a task requires, and her teammate deserves far more than a quick patch job. Along with sleep, it’s just one more thing the constant missions have forced her to neglect. “No. Betsy isn’t…” She has to search for a more precise phrase to use, but the fog hanging over her brain makes even that small feat difficult, “She isn’t very well. She’s taking the transition hard. Jean is working with her, but it’ll take time.”

          “There’s nothing anyone can do. Not unless you’re considering manifesting a secondary mutation.” Even if he did, he would still need to be trained. “How are you doing?”

“Nyet.” Colossus said, his tone lighter than a few moments before. “I don’t think I’ve developed any new powers - and I definitely don’t think I could deal with telepathy.” He added, scratching the back of his messy hair. “The telepaths in our family take on such a great deal of responsibility...and other people’s troubles...all the pain...” He trailed off.

Had it been anyone with a history of such scooping arms it would have been insulting. Demeaning almost. However, Catalyst had not been subjected to such a thing before, not outside of combat. So his reaction was one of complete disbelief. “Piotr,” he stumbles “it is good to see you,watch the latte I would hate to spill it on you,”

Eyes rolling dramatically he shakes his head, of course Piotr would bring that up, he was nice and looking out for him. “ Mutant Town needs me more than the school, I fit in more here.”

“Well none of us fit in anywhere, ditya.” Piotr said with a chuckle. “We’re mutants.” The large mutant playfully patted the young man on the shoulder with his large meaty hands, with more force than he probably believed he was exerting. “I moved in to an apartment close by.”

          “That’s because I am.” The exhaustion is like a heavy, wet blanket thrown over her mind on an already humid summer day. It stifles and slows, every action seeming to require that much more effort to initiate, and even more than that to complete. Her thoughts trudge lethargically by, and her physical movements are just as listless. But Piotr’s hand is a comfortable weight upon her shoulder, and she turns into it readily, “We’ve been dealing with a lot lately, and I’m the only telepath the team has got right now. I don’t get much sleep.”

“You are the most accomplished.” Piotr started, nodding his head slowly. It took him a few moments of introspection to try to place where all the other telepaths were at all. Emma Frost is back leading the hellfire club, she’s a no-go. Quentin Quire is with the Avengers, too stubborn to come home. “I know she’s less talented than you, but is Psylocke not around?” And Jean Grey was still in Searebro, but Piotr thought that that suggestion might be a little weird.  “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“ I don’t need to know his past. I only care about now.    I care only about if he’ll have my back when I need    him and be on call when an emergency strikes. He    hadn’t let me down yet. ”

He didn’t need to know anything personal unless the kid wanted to tell him himself. Clint stood by that.  “ I was a troublemaker when I was his age. Just constantly stealing shit.”His face was already starting to gain some color. His hand slowing down now as he grabbed the drink. Tipping it back into his mouth as his face grew hot. 

Clint hummed and pushed the empty glass forward. “ I don’t think I’m driving home tonight. ”

“Do not worry about it, Clint.” Piotr said, his voice filled with a warmth you might find in someone like Santa Claus. “If push comes to shove, I will carry you home myself. I fancy myself the strongest man in Russia...and here in america too, maybe.” He added with a chuckle. When he was the Juggernaut maybe, but currently he probably couldn’t beat the Hulk in a one on one fight. “I never had the chance to sow those wild oats. I did farm work to take care of my sister until Professor Xavier found me for his team. I was seventeen at the time.”

an ai going deviant? he’d never considered such a thing possible. he supposed he should have but… but the idea that someone like amanda could go deviant was… frankly uncomfortable. “i met vision and was able to interface with him– i understand that he is a similar case as with your Danger. for androids…. the first android to pass the turing test was in 2021. but androids weren’t really… sapient, exactly. it is a hard concept to explain. we were…. sentient in that we could think. but we couldn’t feel anything. we weren’t programmed with emotions or anything in that respect, but rather typically developed them in high stress situations – most commonly situations that would result in feelings of unfairness, feelings of fear, or feelings of anger. abuse was the most common reason an android would… we called it "deviate”. an android that developed sapience and emotional capacity had become “deviant.” i was initially designed to… hunt down these deviants. i instead… became one.“

it was funny – the more connor talked about androids, the more clinical he sounded.

"my understanding is that, in your universe, superheroes began in the 1940s, correct? when steve rogers was injected with a serum that turned him into something…. inhuman? in my universe, steve rogers doesn’t exist. hydra, too, never existed. there was no super soldier serum. there is no winter soldier. no spiderman, no avengers, no x-men. certainly no norse gods made reality, just their myth.”

“You have met The Vision, then? I will never be one to try to claim to know anything about that kind of technology, but from everything I’ve seen in my life, Vision is something special.” He nodded. “If you’ve - interfaced with him - as it were, you probably understand what I mean. The Vision is...he might as well be human. If he weren’t green and red, well, it’d be as hard to tell the different between him and a human as you are. Maybe more.” Piotr added with a shrug.

“How sad to think of a time.” He continued, shaking off the last of the swishing from his brain. “Steve Rogers is human, Steve Rogers was once thought to be the best humanity had to offer, the Soldier Serum just made him into a soldier. Russia had something similar, with far less effect.”
