Sarah Boone, a dressmaker, was an inventor who developed a board created to be of convenience and simplicity. Patented in 1892, Boone invented what we use as the modern day ironing board. During a time where dressmakers were mainly ironing their garments on wooden planks, this invention allowed pieces to have the same results without the risk of being wrinkled through a board with a reversible curved shape that allowed a sleeve to be ironed on either side. These improvements truly became a household name.
