HOW TO HUG LONG DISTANCE
HOW TO EMAIL HUGS
10000 KILOMETER HUG TECHNIQUES
a little rand al'thor i drew to take a break from some commission work
This is a problem I have seen elsewhere, and I don't understand how artists much more talented than I make this mistake. Basically, the pattern of the coat. The artist is trying to cheat, and not actually draw a coat with that pattern, but copy-paste the recurring image. Look at how that bird image is always the same distance and proportion to every other one, including the birds on folds and creases in the fabric. Compare it to the pattern on the sash. See how the pattern over his gut is altered by the fold in the sash, so that it is different from the same image emerging from under the folded-over end? But look how the crease on his inner elbow does nothing to change or distort the bird there, except to impose black lines over the image. Except for those black lines, it is the exact same shape and proportion as every other yellow bird on the coat. Look at the ones on the lower front - they maintain the pattern despite being on a split, just above where the hem of the coat bends, to adhere to the rules of perception. The birds should be bent too, but they are not, and so the coat looks flat, instead of three dimensional.
I've seen this often where they try to draw a figure with a plaid skirt or vest, and regardless of the laws of depth & perspective that should be governing the garment, the lines in the plaid are straight up and down, even when the garment itself is tilted at an angle, and bends or creases with the position of the wearer.
This image pertains to zero descriptions from the books, so there was nothing impelling the artist to draw a coat with a recurring pattern of golden birds, so there was also no need to attempt whatever computer cheat method they used to put the birds on there.
hey guys, turns out copy-pasting an image that I drew onto a larger image that I drew is considered “a computer cheat” by this individual who clearly knows art better than i do
i want to make a formal apology to anyone out there who was personally harmed or traumatized by this piece and my method for creating it. i simply didn’t want to spend the time on the very difficult task of making each crane by hand since this art was literally just a little fun piece. also apparently there is nothing in the books about him having gold cranes on his jacket? idk man
in the future i will be flogging myself publicly before each art session to remind myself of my abject failures

My dude, that is literally a confession.
That said, I am not complaining about the fact that you "cheated", rather I was pointing out that your picture suffered as a result. I went into specific details how it does not look right to me, a human being, with eyes, connected to a brain, who knows what clothing looks like when draped on a human body. You made an image that does not look like that, because you attempted to copy-paste the image that you drew, rather than redraw it each time, adapting it for what the fabric is supposed to be doing in each place. I don't care about the means you used, I am just pointing out that because of that means, your art suffered.

As you are the victim here, it's up to you if the apology is accepted.

Oh, I know. I imagine everyone knows. "I did not do the job properly because I did not want to put in the effort" is not generally a justification or a viable comeback against criticism anywhere outside the art world. As I said, you did not need to show him with a coat with a specific pattern that you were not capable of properly depicting. You could have done a solid color coat and I would not have had a word to say.
also apparently there is nothing in the books about him having gold cranes on his jacket? idk man
Than take the word of someone who does. You know art, I know WoT.
I freely admit, I would not be capable of doing a drawing nearly as good. I would not be able to begin to utilize your duplication method. But as I said, I am a person who knows what cloth looks like, and your technique for replicating the image undermines your effort to draw it.
in the future i will be flogging myself publicly before each art session to remind myself of my abject failures
Whatever helps you avoid a similar mistake in the future.
God forbid an artist use the tools in their toolbox to create art for fun. Calling it a cheat is laughable. You fully admit that artist is more skilled than you and yet you still decide you want to be a nitpicky critic for no reason?
This is loser behavior, dude. Shut up. 🙄🙄
I have been having the absolute BEST time with this game. I love it so much. 💙
