Meet one of our Data Team, Scott Macandrew
Hi, Iâm Scott.
I work in both the Data and Common Ledgerâs Engineering Teams. Â For me, itâs is a super exciting time to be working in the accounting space in Australasia, and especially in the data sphere.
A little bit of background - my interests are travel, football and sport in general. Iâve been watching and playing football for as long as I can remember. I still play to this day for my local club, and enjoy the continued challenge of improving my game, season after season.
Iâve recently returned to New Zealand after several years in Europe and Asia, working and travelling with my girlfriend. During our travels we met inspiring people, saw spectacular sights and found ourselves in all sorts of interesting and varied work which turned out to be and equally enjoyable part of our time abroad.
I decided that I had a passion for data during my travels, when I found myself setting up algorithms in Microsoft Excel to predict football results. When I returned to Wellington, I became obsessed about databases and programming languages, starting with SQL and Python. I began an internship with Common Ledger while I developed these skills, and the rest is history.
My roles at Common Ledger are Data Scientist and Junior Developer. My specialty areas are developing and interpreting data collection systems to optimise project efficiency.
Since joining the team I have been involved in several significant data projects, interpreting and analysing results to identify patterns and trends and add value to clients. Recently, I have also started working more closely with the Engineering team, working in the programming language PHP to do support and a little development.Â
The Australasian accounting industry is a world leader when it comes to technology and innovation, what we are doing at Common Ledger is an important contribution and I am proud and excited to be a part of that.
