For everything that had happened recently the day seemed outwardly peaceful, the precinct quiet beyond itâs usual hushed work chatter over new and old cases alike. It had been just long enough that perhaps a few among the wojek had gotten used to the quiet again, but sadly for those who were enjoying it, a very familiar voice rang out as the precinct door burst open to a pair of legs sticking out from a pile of pastry boxes and coffee trays. â Good morning, Ravnicaaa~! Every dayâs like an open door, every night is a fantasy, every soundâs like a symphonyyyy~â
âaww.â Zia blushed and took her cords gently, holding them as if theyâd fall apart. She was very proud and didnât want anything to happen to them before she had time to show her family. âIâll work hard to try and live up to that. Thank you for the promotion, it means a lot to me.â
Petra smiled. âYou may go about your day as usual, Constable- Actually⌠Now that I think of it I may have a very special assignment for you. Itâs something I would put Nora in charge of, but as she has returned to her maternity leave Iâm a bit short-handed when it comes to people I can trust.â
A light gentle gasp escaped her. âA special assignment? My first special assignment!â Zia stood at full attention with a huge smile on and saluted Petra, visibly trying very hard not to wiggle, bounce, or generally shimmy in place. âI would be happy to Commander, delighted. What is it you would need your constable to do?â
âYou are free to decline if it does not interest you,â Petra clarified. âThe War we fought upon your return may have lasted one day, but its effects on the Tenth were devestating. Many families are displaced, children orphaned, families struggling to find food. As the fiasco barely spilled over into the Ninth I think itâs our duty to share our resources with those in need and I would like to start a⌠fundraiser? for the people of then Tenth? A drive? Iâm not certain what to call it, but I know I need someone trustworthy who isnât going to squander the fundsâ zinos on unrelated expenditures.â
âIâll also be allocating what funds Iâm allowed to your endeavor. The Boros donât need new uniforms or weapons or what have you when children are starving.â Petra smiled. âYouâd have a little team under your belt of course, I wouldnât want you trying to juggle this alone. Think youâre up for the task?â
Her eyes grew wide and filled with a joyous sparkling. âCommander,â she put a hand on each of her shoulders, âI would LOVE to run a drive for the tenth. I donât think you understand how much,â she leaned in, âI would love to run a drive for the tenth. Just tell me when you want me to start and I will get my butt out there and get ALL the food.â
âYou may start today if you wish my putting together a little task force,â Petra said with a smile. âI believe Maris is the active Shift Captain at the moment. He may have some good recommendations for you on who to put on your squad. Iâll set aside meeting room 3 on the ground level for you to run everything from.â
âAnd Zia-â Her hand rested gently on the constableâs shoulder. âItâs alright if you canât handle this on your own and need to place someone else in charge to run it with you or even if you need to back out. Iâm asking you to do something thatâs a little out of our experiences.â
