Big Whitetail fan here. the hoof laser is a hangup of mine too. we knew that the stones were magic-y and fantastical but straight up shooting a glowing green laser out of her hoof takes me out of the comic a bit. the comic has fairly tame anthropomorphism (animals can't even cry unless effected by the bad) with nothing else dramatically unnatural and then.. suddenly she's fuckin Danny Phantom

"doesn't know how to climb" If you have fully working limbs like this gelada-faced monstrosity then you can climb. There's hardly anything to know about it, you just try it and then oh look! You're climbing! Sure she might fall on her ass at first but don't tell me she didn't even make an attempt.
