Real thing that changed how i write: I started asking "what does this character think is wrong with them" and separately "what is actually wrong with them." Those two things are almost never the same. She thinks she's too much. She's actually terrified of being too little. He thinks he's bad at commitment. He's actually just never met someone he trusted enough. The gap between their diagnosis of themselves and the real thing, that's your character arc right there. you don't have to explain it. just write both.
Not doing day 4 last minute, yay! Today's prompts are free space and mermaids & creatures, so I took the easy way out and decided to filter down to mermaid AUs. First, I got very distracted by the entirety of the Seaborne zine that's been sitting on my shelf for like a year now, but I didn't end up reading anything in there that felt quite Lance-centric enough for Julance. Still a lovely gen zine that I highly recommend if you spot it in the wild--there are so many great artists and writers in this thing. I'm only sad I haven't found a digital copy to see the pieces that weren't included in the physical 😔 yes, that's an invitation to slide into my dms if you wanna trade pdfs

The wrong (and right) way to name a bakery by c0cunt is a 1.5k genfic about Lance and Hunk starting a bakery together, based on Klance art by lohkay. it's silly and fun, just couldn't make it fit both of the julance boards well enough!
I went searching for fics buried a little deeper in the modern AU tag and just kinda scrolled looking for something to tie into the deep water, and I ended up finding a horror gen fic, so no ship today!
Lake Pontchartrain by Vixen13 is rated mature for horror reasons! Minors and people not big on horror, please use your own judgment, but you have my word there's nothing sexually NSFW in there. This is a 2.3k oneshot that includes major character death, which is a warning for boring people and a sweet beautiful promise for the Skylers of the world. Set in a modern universe where Lance, Hunk, and Pidge decide to go on a road trip with no real plan, and as you can perhaps guess from the title, features a lake... perhaps with... deep water. Sightseeing by steelrunner is a short and sweet 588-word Plance fic set post-canon and on a beach. It's a nice, fluffy, G-rated scene of Lance and Pidge sneaking off to spend some time together away from Lance's family get-together.
