I fill my journals with so many sentimental things, I keep a love letter between my parents when they first met and my mom was learning Arabic tucked into the back pocket of my 2018 journal. And the 2018 journal was significant because I was in love and in turkey with my ex, writing constantly about Izmir, the locals I met, etc. then in my 2022 journal I have directions my dad scribbled on a napkin for me to a cemetery in vienna where his best friend is buried. I couldn’t even read the directions, I just love his handwriting. I even have a tea wrapper from another ex, it was his favorite tea and he would always nervously make origami out of the wrapper when he was finished drinking the tea.

What once felt like void revealed itself as sacred ground.
