absolutely obsessed with the Opalite music video omfg. the way Taylor uses Opalite on her relationship with the large rock, implying dead weight- she was doing all the work, lugging it around, investing in something that is literally incapable of giving back. And Lonely Man uses Opalite on a cactus, implying a relationship that is actively harmful to him. And it's fascinating that Lonely Man sprays the cactus, but Taylor sprays herself- very Midnights "I'm the problem it's me"-core. I also think the 90s aesthetic and vibe is a nod to So High School/the way her relationship with Travis makes her feel childlike wonder again, which of course she would associate with the 90s. Lastly I think it's very very funny how she cast (only??) British celebrities in the video. LMAO anyways I have so much shit to do today but I cannot wait to watch it on repeat

I love the part where she's on the swing and the rock falls off... it's a two person swing, it's meant to be done jointly by two people, like in a relationship, but she's the only one pushing. And then the rock even falls off, BECAUSE of the motion, because of the work she's putting in, and she has to pick it up and put it back on herself. She's doing all the work in the relationship

putting on a friendship bracelet and body glitter on that rock trying to make it look like that dead weight isn’t as bad as it seems, playing up its commitment to her whimsy and bits so others see it as something more willing to play along with her even if she’s the one doing all the work and having to rope it into her activities

the contrast between getting weird looks and becoming more isolated as she’s defensive of her rock BF and the photographer immediately saying “I want to be your friend” with her Opalite relationship is sooooooooooo telling

So Opalite is actually the sequel to Barbenheimer?
