Amanda smiled warmly. “It’s wonderful to meet you more properly, Christine.”
He looks just like you did when we were courting.
Christine still had a light hold on Spock’s arm, feeling her nerves start to soar now that she was actually in front of his parents, especially his father. At least Amanda’s presence made things feel somewhat more comfortable, and the woman knew how to talk to fill a conversational void.
Once they were sitting at the table, Spock and Christine held hands again out of view.
It was all a little awkward, apart from Amanda, who obviously adored anyone who made her son happy. Fortunately, no one tried too hard and embarrassed themselves in the process, and if Sarek found Christine a little too prone to blushing, he had to remind himself that his own parents had probably thought Amanda utterly ill-suited for him all those years ago. Logic dictated that if he saw her in her professional setting, as Spock had during this voyage, his opinion might well be entirely different.
Amanda kissed Christine’s cheek when they parted, and then her son’s, and then the whole nerve-wracking affair was over.
