They returned the keys to the books so they can all be together, in the unfinished, chase clutches buddy's key to his chest and cries his heart out, and buddy emerges from the woods or something in the outfit he had in his coffin and they hug and kiss or whatever and happy ever after.

I love how among other things, chase drooling while he sleeps tired has remained a constant throughout the story
There are a lot of examples of this kind of thing, subtle characteristics of each character, the way they act, the stuff they do. Its so endearing and speaks of such good writing imo. The characters are not just fleshed out in their motivations or personalities, but have little habits too.
Just like how one starts noticing stuff about people when one spends time with them, you start noticing stuff about characters in CB, stuff that is just there in the comic. It feels like getting to know a person and argh it's such amazing, such detailed writing!

Meet Deacon from Cinderella Boy: cousin of the MC, holder of the Helper Key, and a loveable dork

Character Development
Over the course of the comic Deacon has gone through a lot of character development as he took on the Helper role, reignited his friendship with his cousin, and learns to stand up for and be more confident in himself.
When they first found Bronze (the Helper Key), Deacon saw sidekicks as good-for-nothing and unimportant. As he took on the Helper role, he learned that a lot more goes into being the sidekick than meets the eye and the importance of the role.
Along with accepting the Helper role, Deacon also learned to make his own decisions with his life. His parents were paying for him to go to medical school to become a doctor like his father which was not Deacon's dream career, but he went along because he didn't want to be ungrateful. Even though his parents had his best intentions at heart, he would have been miserable. With some guidance, he learned that he should stand up for himself and make his own decisions, which in his case meant switching from medical school to writing.

Deacon had a MAJOR glow-up in season 2, but he also has had some great outfits in season 1 as well! Plus, who doesn't love a dork with brown hair and freckles?

After learning Deacon was nominated to be Tumblr Sexy-Man 2026 through the fourth wall, Chase and the keys did a photoshoot with Boris so he can look more sexy and majestic in a modest way to make some propaganda. Unfortunately, this was the only good photo they were able to take because Boris started to eat his arm two seconds after the flash. Due to the carnage, the photo op was ruined.
Chase originally had the sign say, “Vote now!” Or something silly, he hadn’t decided. But the picture spoke to him, so he decided to play into it more and just tell the truth.
