Personality: Surprisingly for a child of Ares, Colton was a happy-go-lucky kid despite flareups of his anger growing up until his parents were killed in front of his eyes. The experience completely shattered the young Colton, and he became a PTSD-ridden traumatized wreck during his first two months at Camp Half Blood. When Clarisse finally got him out of the Ares Cabin by promising to help train him so he could take revenge on the Lydian Drakon, that’s when everyone started to find out that a monster lurked within Colton’s body. A monster that could have easily led him to either join Kronos or destroy the world after he became the Monster King if it weren’t for Kayla being in his life. Despite her calming influence on him, the monster remains within him and woe to anyone who causes Colton to bring it out. Or to put it simply — Kayla’s the only restraining bolt that keeps Colton from possibly destroying the entire world and then killing himself at the end of it. When the monster is in control, Colton can be quite capable of being even more malicious, psychotic, brutal, ruthless, dangerous, sadistic, non-remorseful and violent than even the villains of PJO and the other series can be thanks to the rage that the monster inside him holds. He’s also a pragmatic person when it comes to protecting his family, willing to use literally anything and anyone he can get his hands on (willing or unwilling (at first that is) to help, that is) to do so. Oh, and anytime Colton swears something on the River Styx, you can bet that he isn’t going to stop until he has fulfilled that. On top of all of that, Colton can be honest to a fault since at times, he can be brutally and unapologetically honest at times where it likely would have been better had he just sugarcoated things.
Fatal Flaw: Caring too much for others, which is unusual for a child of Ares. As it turns out, this fatal flaw might as well be the single biggest button that you don’t want to press. Especially dangerous if you’re putting Kayla’s life in danger when this button is pressed. Colton’s fatal flaw, alongside Kayla, is the single biggest reason why every demigod in his universe from his generation even lives through all three wars in the main series of PJO. Touch that button, and all bets are off as to what Colton will do next because now the monster is in control of him. Put simply, you now better be praying as your plans get torn to shreds and leveled to the ground around you that your life now doesn’t end at the hands of a ticking time bomb of rage who isn’t above acting like a villain and stacking the odds so heavily in his favor (for instance storming an enemy stronghold with an army of 100,000 monsters and droids) if it means protecting his family. Yes, it means he will throw everything but the kitchen sink at you if he feels like that is what is necessary to protect who he cares for.
