Dear friends ! It gives a sense of relief by learning that human life was saved for the great preparedness by different stakeholders of development including the state & central government agencies . While it needs an introspection to examine if the 10,000 electric poles and numerous trees in Bhubaneswar could have been saved with technical applications & vigilant pre-preparedness , I would like to share some of my thought aswell purely as my take .Here are they : Still a long way to celebrate if we look into the preparedness as a state taking all corners of the state into consideration .Till now disaster preparedness orientation at grassroots equipping the village youth to deal with specific kind of disaster not done .Hence some external people had to reach to show their skills in villages .Youth of Koraput need to be trained on dealing with flash flood which was different from flood in coastal region .Realisation that wind in the mountain is different from the coast was yet to be realised .No effort has been made to equip village youth on how to detect the landslide possibility , prevent and work on restoration in such a condition when happens .The vision is still specific area centric that has been hit for years , coastal desaster centric .The state of Odisha needs to realise it's diversity both in beauty and also disaster & devastation .Till now when the state metrological department says that Odisha will be or not be affected mostly it remains silent about its specific prediction of areas like Koraput as if Koraput was outside Odisha .There need to be more meteorological stations in other parts of the state to keep the state update itself .May we have the better approaches covering seen and unseen possibilities or else natural disasters would be just experience for some while will never be a learning .The nature of disaster is changing .Hence we need to be able to see the future and prepare for the future challenges as Future is going to be more disasterous , more furious and more varied .Regards , Chelapila Santakar
