Five ways to start positively your day and create a happier life
There are good weeks and some not so good weeks. I have had my up and downs like most people and like most creatives i struggle with lack of motivation or inspiration every now and again. Lets face it, life doesnβt always go the way we want it and itβs realistically impossible to always feel excited, enthusiastic, motivated and full of energy about life and work.. So when that time hits when we are feeling low, what do we do? How do we go through it without turning our life into a complete havoc..
I have to say it is the one thing that puzzles me and that seems to entertain my free time, how can i be more happy and more balanced in my every day life. And this is without the βif only i had more of this, and if only this was easierβ¦β..no this is with all the difficult things that come and goβ¦when you get a head start on the βif onlyβ there is no easy way back..
I have tried reading motivational books, people that seem to know what they are doing or they have figured it out..but this doesnβt stay with me for too long. I believe what makes us more settled and little more joyous is giving our selves a little stability and me time , not only when we are feeling down, but on a daily basis, good days and bad days. Consistency shows to ourselves we matter, as much are work and our close ones do. You show up for you, and it is proof you have control of your life and your emotional health.
Every time i have tried creating a morning routine it has always made a positive impact in my life. The truth it is hard to keep going, so determination to keep at it is vital. It has to become part of your morning rituals likeΒ making a cup of coffee when you wake up. So what are the things that will get you on a positive mindset and motivate you to get on with your day:
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Meditation: JUST SIT QUIETLY for 5-10 minutes, let the mind wander, try and focus on your breathing or on a positive image. When you do this day after day, your mind will become a little more settled and you can start your day without stress or negative thinking. Just keep at it with no expectations, itβs a little me time for you, where you have no goals to reach, just be.
Goal setting: What is your goal, the thing that matters to you most and gets you excited? Write it down, with a little explanation why it matters to you. Then, when you wake up each morning, make it a habit to read through it and visualize it happening. If you know you are working hard for something and there is a reason for it, then it is so much easier to get up and get going with your day.
Talk to someone/write things down: You can do both or either, and if talking to someone early in the morning is not possible then do it at the right time for you. For me, talking to a friend that can listen, understand and give me advice when i need one is so important. Sometimes itβs like a slap, making me think realistically and stop moaning or thinking negatively, other times itβs enough knowing there is someone out there that really cares for me and wants me to be happy. When you write things down it helps you reflect on your thoughts, an make extra effort to look at things in the right perspective.
Be creative: this is not only for those that are in a creative job, creativity is part of every day life, so use yours in a way that brings you joy. For me is enough to get some fine liners in vibrant colors and doodle for 10 minutes, it reminds me of who i am and what makes me happy. Maybe your thing is writing music, crochet or engineering things, just do a little of that every day and you will see how it will add to your happiness.
Get Inspired: You can read about someone or something that inspires you and motivates you, or you can look through art, design, architecture, interior..anything that gets you feeling jolly. At the end of the day is about what works for you. If learning something new is your thing, then read a book that will inspire you and help you improve your skills/ be better at something that matters.
You know the saying βitβs the little things that matterβ, well this is so true, it is not about spending hours doing all of it every day.Β Spend as little as 10 minutes on each of the above, and if you have as little as 20 minutes try rotating and do two things every day. Keep at it for a month or so and see how it affects your well being!
