I am a gravestone in the shape of myself.
William Ward Butler, from ’These Things Are True’, in Nightblock (via soracities)
Tom Welling Tribute #143 Gouache
Why should I go further than I am able? Is it not enough for you that I am perfect?

I want a dog with spine. I want a dog with gravitas, a dog with a little shadow in his face and walk, eager for boundaries and conditions and agreements, if not for you, then for himself. Any creature, canine or human, deserves the joys of accomplishment.
Paul Lisicky, The Narrow Door
Tim Dlugos: When did you become a national figure?
Joe Brainard: You've got to be kidding.
If the dead are watching, I want them to see us writing, dancing, singing, painting. I want them to see that we still reach out to each other.
Richard Siken, Black Telephone (via sarcolinedream)

things i recommend reading / hey
cathy park hong's "there's a new movement in american poetry and it's not kenneth goldsmith"
simeon kronenberg's "love in contemporary american gay male poetry in the works of richard siken, eduardo c. corral and jericho brown" (ignore the typos/"Ashbury")
two poems by my friend billy butler at potluck
eileen myles / ben lerner
in a bit of a writing slump, so i’ve been (as always) rereading this rachel zucker poem “poem”
it's not online (duh) but a couple of days ago i read james gendron's sexual boats (sex boats) and loved it. here's a picture of one of my favorites from the book:
and i’m also reading eileen myles' chelsea girls and loving it (not surprised).
for class this weekend i’m reading some ashbery books and saeed jones’ prelude to bruise and for my thesis i’m reading and rereading joe brainard’s bolinas journal and hoping that eventually i’ll have some thoughts about it.
no one was asking about any of this, i just thought i’d share.
What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.
Andy Warhol
Frank O'Hara, “Nocturne”

If you were a person, you were supposed to want to be a better person. Better people had a surplus of themselves that they were willing to give away, something they could separate out and detach. In me the portions only separated, pulling apart and waiting there for something to happen.
Alexandra Kleeman, You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine
