“So yeah, Pikachu is cute but like, what’s the point of all these new Pokemon if you are just going to fill your team with a bunch of classics?” Collin stared at Teddy staring at his phone, making sure he got a good look at the bright purple Pokemon shining up from the screen. “This guy is literally a little baby dinosaur in a diaper, and it’s evolution is so cool. I for one am excited to nurture it into a total badass. I can put an older Pokemon on my team in an older game. Anyway,” he cleared his throat, “that’s my daily Pokemon rant. Thanks for listening.”

“Wrote a song?” The blonde let out a laugh, head shaking, “Don’t think that’s quite going to fly with the professor, he’s an uppity music snob who doesn’t even really get music, rather would have a thirty-page thesis than the chance to listen to actual music… and I think he’s a partial voyeur, I swear I’ve seen him loitering outside of the girl’s bathrooms like a freak.”

Collin made a face. “Oh, yikes! Gross!" He spoke a little too loud and drew some unhappy glares. Collin sank a little into his seat, then leaned over the table. He lowered his voice. "You could always get a video of him doing that and then blackmail him for an A. Then report him anyway so you can get a decent professor in here?"

Gianni stepped into the cafe excitedly. Having had the rest of his day free for the most part, he had decided to go find Collin. The other’s shift should be finishing up at the cafe soon unless he was tasked to stay later, which Gianni hoped against. He was feeling like heading to a bar, maybe an open mic or just a movie back at his, and aside from Lottie, Collin was probably the person he most enjoyed spending his time with. Collin was a half hour away from freedom, and the minutes were dragging by. It was a quiet afternoon shift, with only a few people camping out at tables. He stared wistfully at the sunny outdoors, then decided to wipe down the display case for a third time, just for something to do. Gianni must have stepped into view just as Collin had turned his eyes away, because he seemed to appear out of thin air. Collin abandoned his task, beaming. “Yessss, I’m out in 30," he said, leaning over the counter. "Want some coffee?”

“Wow… ouch… I think this is too mean a question to deserve an answer.”

“Uhhh, everyone! I love people— well, most people. Just come say hi to me! I’m really nice and I’m sure we’ll get along. I mean, I’ll probably approach you, too, if I haven’t already.”

“I think i’m going to drop out,” Lottie muttered as she tossed her pen to the side, fingers running through her hair while she leaned back in her seat, “Like really who fucking needs to actually go to college unless you’re going to be like… a fucking doctor, this is stupid, I don’t need to write a fifteen-page essay on why rock & roll changed music, it just did, simple as that.”

Collin tore his eyes from the movie playing on his laptop when he saw Lottie move from the corner of his eye. He pressed pause and turned to her. “That sounds awful,” he said, glancing at the notebook in front of Lottie to see what kind of progress she made. “What if you like... Wrote a song instead? Like, before it sounded like this and now it sounds like this, thank you rock n’ roll.”
