Witch Tips for City Witches
City Witch Tips for all of my fellow witches stuck in apartments, dorms or other city areas.
If you canât burn incense you can make your own sprayable incense by mixing alcohol (usually vodka or rubbing) with essential oils and a bit of oil, spray in the air to act like incense
If you are unable to go outside for whatever reason to get rain water (in my case just no where to collect it safely), fill a jar or glass with regular water and keep it near a cracked window to charge it with the wind, sound and scent of the rain outside. Same goes for storm water
Trapped in city and unable to get ocean water? Sea salt mixed with rain/storm water can be an excellent substitute
To continue on with water substitutes, if you canât collect snow crushed ice from your fridge will suffice
Low key warding/protection you can use: spray moon water, salt water or sprayable incense about your apartment or dorm, place sigils under doormats, furniture, inside cupboards, etc; place crystals about hidden or out in the open, sweep and dust out the door or towards windows
If you need melted wax to seal a jar or for any other magical purpose, but canât burn candles, by a wax melter and melt that wax and imagine the light from the burner acting like a flame (plus they are rather cheap, I got mine for 25 bucks)
Need stars in your craft but too much light pollution? Glow in the dark stars on your ceiling or wall can work just as well for visualization. Print out pictures of your favorite constellations or planets and place them up on your walls or on your altar. Live video feed of the night sky can also be easily found on the internet
Bath magic is amazing for low-key âin the woodsâ witches. Use teas, milk, oils, herbs, bath bombs, bubble baths, salts, etc that relate to your intent. It is also a good place to meditate if you have roommates or family around that would disturb you otherwise
If you do for whatever reason need to burn a candle, birthday candles are small, melt fast, and donât create a lot of smoke or smokey scent
Sigils are another great low-key form of magic. To boost them up, use color magic related to the color you draw them in, write them using quills made of feathers related to your intent, use colored paper, rub a drop of essential oil on them, charge them with crystals or in your windowsill
You donât have to burn sigils to activate them, which is hardly an option when you are in a dorm or apartment. Other options are: Shredding them, erasing them, soaking them in a bath or shower, using body heat or your own pulse, etc
Miss having the outdoors and plants around? Windowsill gardens can really help. Small plants you can consider keeping in your windowsill or counter-tops: succulents, cacti, bamboo, lemongrass, basic, rosemary, mint, rosemary, mosses, aloe, snake plant, pothos (and other vines), carrots, beets, shallots, lettuce, spinach, garlic, chives, parsley, oregano, thyme, and marigold
Open your window to let the wind and air from outside to help energize you and clear out negative energies inside
Fun places to put sigils: under furniture, carved into soap, onto shampoo/conditioner bottles, on your make up, inside phone cases, in shoes, under bandages, sewn into pillow cases and blankets, behind pictures in frames, underside of nail polish, carved into wax squares for your wax melter, keys and keychains, behind mirrors or in medicine cabinets, on bookmarks, on or in binders and pencil cases, on medicine bottles, and water bottles/travel mugs
Easy to make and dispose of poppets: carrot sticks (one of my personal favorites), apples or other fruit, clothe, paper, popsicle sticks, paper towels/napkins, toilet paper rolls, eggs, celery stocks, and cotton balls
The internet is an amazing thing. Need some sounds to help you focus or meditate? Easily look up the sounds of rain, storms, wind, ocean waves, jungles, forests, etc
Christmas lights are fun and great way to use discrete witchcraft. Select ones in the colors you wish for them to bring ie green for growth, yellow for inspiration, white for protection, purple for psychic abilities, etc.Â
Some everyday things you can use for discrete witchcraft that donât cost much at all or that you most likely already have: water, table salt, black pepper, paper, crayons/pencils/pens/markers, vinegar, milk, tea, highlighters, make up and beauty supplies, shampoo and conditioner, rubber bands, paperclips, thumbtacks, computer/phone/tablet, music/music player, playing cards, dice, air freshener, perfumes, toothpaste, rice, flour, sugar, honey, and all kitchen herbs and seasonings.
Canât afford gemstones or crystals on college budget? Crackle and dyed quartz you can find super cheap at craftstores and online. I bought a whole bag for 4 bucks. Use them based on their colors and shapes. Canât afford that but still want to use rocks in your craft? Find some rocks you like outside, again use their colors and shapes to determine their correspondences. Want to use them for a specific purpose? Paint sigils on them in the color that corresponds with what you want! Charge them in your windowsill or with your own energy and intent. There you go!
Pocket mirrors are cheap, easy to carry around and great for glamours and on the go magic.Â
Seriously though, glamour spells are going to be a good option for you. use your make up, skin products, hair care products, brushes/combs, perfume, mirrors, toothbrush/toothepaste and intent. Good to do while you are getting ready for your day
Dream magic is another friend of the city witch! Use crystals, sigils, herbs, etc near your bed before you go to sleep, drink some chamomile, get yourself a dream journal (mine is literally a notebook with construction paper on it), keep it and a pen near you. In the morning write down your dreams, your thoughts, how you feel (tired, refreshed, groggy, etc), and interpret them.Â
Canât afford tarot cards? Print out some, you can usually find them online and they wonât last as long as a real deck but it is a good temporary solution. Want a Ouija board but canât keep one or need it to be easily hidden? Print one out, draw on one on paper or cardboard, fold it up and store it once you are done. Want a pendulum but canât afford one? Use your favorite necklace, bracelet or keychain!
Tea and coffee magic is great, make your own tea blends with the herbs you like. Or just buy simple green or black tea and add sugar, milk, etc depending on your intentions
As I said before, crock pot magic. The Modern Cauldron: brew and cook all day with it, fill your apartment with the scent of the herbs and food to fill it with the energies they correspond with and you get a delicious meal to come home to! Most dorms allow them. Rice cookers also work well.
Canât afford fresh food? Have to survive on ramen, canned soup, and microwaved meals? That is okay! They even correspond with things! Tomato soup for love, beauty and passion. Beef ramen noodles for strength, courage and longevity. Microwave mac n cheese for beauty and feminity. Look at their ingredients and what they correspond with. Sure its not as glamorous as a making a huge made by scratch traditional meal but its kitchen magic none the less. Stir it with your intent while you cook. It isnât fancy but it works just as well!
Use a notebook or binder for a nice grimoire, decorate it as much as you want on the inside. Print out pictures of nature, animals, planets, stars, places, crystals, etc that you cantâ access/afford and use them in your craft. Spell books and grimoires are powerful tools
Donât have a wand? Use a wooden spoon. Tie a colored string or ribbon to it to correspond with what energy you want it to have and move and flick it as you would a wand.Â
Knitting, crocheting, and knot magic is very apartment friendly. As well as sewing and embroidering plus it is super calming.
Glitter, sequins, and beads are great in witchcraft! Use their colors to determine their correspondences. Put them in spell jars, sachets, bottles, etc. Glitter tip: if you spill any donât fret, get some packing tape, wrap it around your hand with the sticky part outwards and dab at that glitter spill. You will literally pick up all of the glitter in seconds!
Enchant and charge your pots, pans, skillets, and other cookware to make every meal magical
Make moonwater in your windowsills. Use it for cleansing, beauty, divination, clarity, protection and purification
Take walks. Even if it is a city there is still nature about. Pigeons flying about, potted flowers outside of stores, grass growing in front lawns, etc. Enjoy yourself, even if it is not some wild, vast forest you can still connect with your local nature.
Pick up litter or garbage you see outside, being in the city we all see it. The natural world around you will appreciate you helping out. Bring a bag with you when you take your walks or travel and fill it with wrappers you see on the ground.
I hope this was helpful to all of my fellow city and dorm witches!
THINGS TO DO TO PUT YOURSELF IN A BETTER MOOD:
When energy feels stiff within or around you here are some things you can do to change the flow of energy:
INTERNAL ENERGY:
(sight, sent, taste, listen, touch, intuition)Â
Sight- Observe e.g: art, educational videoâs, read a chapter of your book  Â
Sent- Aroma e.g: incense, essential oils, potpourri
Taste- Indulge e.g: wholesome food, buy little snacks for yourself, go out for coffee and catch up with a friendÂ
Listen- Audio- e.g:Â binaural beats, sing to yourself, open the window; enjoy the birds chirpingÂ
Touch- Contact- e.g: yoga, self-massage, cuddling with a pet   Â
Intuition- Knowing e.g: meditation, automatic writing, journaling  Â
EXTERNAL ENERGYÂ
(environment, people, nature, technology, education)Â
Environment- Location e.g: rearrange your home, change your lunch routine at work, visit a new place with your friends no one has been to for breakfast
People- Others e.g: calling/seeing friends to catch up, connecting with family over dinner, bringing a co-worker a surprise (a snack or something you know theyâd enjoy)Â Â Â Â
Nature- Earth e.g: walking in the forest (barefoot=grounding; be careful of glass and shit), feeding squirrels, picking up litter    Â
Technology- Devices e.g: set reminders for pills, blue light is a bitch; makes it difficult to fall asleep; viral tip= no artificial intelligence 1 hour before bed, take a break from social media (if you are considering deleting an account it should be done in a calm state and not when you are emotional; you might feel different later. I did and regretted deleting accounts, whoopsie daisies!) Â
Education- Information e.g: learn something new everyday, everyone is your teacher, mainstream media is used as part of an agenda; confusion and chaos, become aware of your conditioning and how you want to re-program yourself  Â
Internal effects external and vice versa. Which dominates? The energy with the strongest belief. Change is the only constant, you can change anything. You can choose to become anyone. Donât let others who are insecure stop you from becoming what you desire. Insecurities are a projection of ones own failures, flaws, and blockages onto another. Be kind and confident in your abilities. Balance activities in your life so you can live healthy and full of love and abundance. You have to constantly clear out old energy for new energy to enter. It must become a habit for one to maintain balance.   Â

You ever put your arms out and spin really, really fast? Well, thatâs what love is like. It makes your heart race. It turns the world upside down. But if youâre not careful, if you donât keep your eyes on something still, you can lose your balance. You canât see whatâs happening to the people around you. You canât see that youâre about to fall.

Another College Tips for a College Witch post
Brought to you by one of your many local college witches!Â
Note: Some of these are just college tips in general and have nothing to do with witchcraft.Â
Stock up on exam materials at the beginning of the semester. Ask your professors in the first week whether youâll need to buy your own scantrons or writing books and then buy a semesterâs worth as soon as possible. Not only will it save you time on the days leading up to your exams, but it will protect you from the risk of the university running out just when you need to buy them. (Yes, that really happens. I once completely skipped a midterm because every university store was out of writing books and my anxiety was too bad to ask for one in the classroom. Donât be me.)Â
Learn more about your mascot! Chances are your school has some sort of animal or historical figure as a mascot, which you might be able to use in your craft if you feel a connection to it! If you donât like your mascot, you might also be able to incorporate your school colors into correspondences for your study-related spellwork. (I was fortunate enough that my schoolâs matron was the goddess I was already worshipping, but others arenât so lucky)
Do not rely on spellwork instead of studying. This is a mistake that Iâm still making. You can do all the magic in the world to bring academic success your way, but you canât give it a conduit without actually studying a little. Even if it means just staring at the page that has your information on it, you need to put in work that isnât dependent on the energies of the universe.
Discreet materials are available to you. Itâs fine if you want to have an aesthetic going on, but if youâre more about practicality than atmosphere, then youâre in the perfect spot to get creative with your tools. A grimoire can look the same as any other notebook or binder you have. Red solo cups can be used as offering bowls. School supplies can be enchanted, like pencils that lead you to the right answer or lab goggles that grant you mental clarity. A few moments of meditation in a common area probably wonât be looked at twice, and no one questions you if you bring extra food or supplies around campus. You can practice your craft in plain sight without ever looking out of place.
Invest in note cards. This one is pretty much just stolen from another post. Even if you donât use note cards to study, you can write down spells on them, or draw sigils to carry in your pocket, or burn them easily. Plus, the more you use them for your craft, the more likely you are to use them to study, and whatâs the harm of one more study tool?Â
Incorporate your study into your spellwork. This one might be a little trickier, since it depends on what youâre studying, but chances are thereâs some way you can use what youâre learning to add a new twist to spells. Draw sigils on a graph using formulas from stats or algebra. Translate spells you already know into whatever language youâre learning. Use stretches or focusing tools to ground yourself. Add music composition to give your spell an extra personal touch. Make it relevant to what you love!
Extended nihilism and hopelessness may seem commonplace, but itâs not healthy. If you can afford to, seeing a therapist even once may help tremendously, no matter who you are. Donât play along with passive nihilist culture; you are in control of your own future. Ask for help.Â
Iâm probably going to add more as I think of them but thatâs all I have for now. Iâm pretty sure everything else has been covered by other posts.Â
đDorm Room Witch TipsđŚ
While youâre getting ready to move into your dorm room, keep these tips in mind to help create a witchy experience for you in the dorm.
đŚ Take a small box with you. Fill it with your tools and keep it under the bed or on your desk. It conceals it from othersâ eyes (you can also have it open if youâre open with your craft) while itâs near you and it helps to keep things organized and out of the way. đŚ Bring a blanket, rug, towel, or tapestry with you. You can keep these things folded under your bed and then lay them out when you feel like meditating or praying. You can also use these for your work space if your desk doesnât have enough room to work with. đŚ Change your alarm clock noise to sound like a bell if itâs possible. Each time it goes off, it will cleanse the room. đŚ Use an essential oil diffuser as a substitute to incense or candle smoke. A cheap way to diffuse oils is to pour the essential oil of your choice on some Himalayan pink salt. This will also cover up any gross smells from the cafeteria or other peoplesâ microwaves. đŚ If you have a window, keep crystals on the windowsill (unless they fade in sunlight). This keeps them off your desk and it also looks really pretty! đŚ You can also make a mobile with your crystals as long as they arenât too big. You can hang this anywhere in your room and it wonât take up a lot of space. đŚ Use fake candles or fire salt instead of real candles. Most dorms donât allow open flames, so do not risk getting caught for a spell. Use a substitute instead, which can be fake candles, fire salt, chili pepper, or any other symbol of the element. đŚ Enchant, like, everything. If you can find a purpose for an object, enchant it. Want to enchant your desk chair to be more comfortable? Do it. Want to enchant your desk to help you get your homework done? Do it. Want to enchant your clothes to keep attention away from you? Go ahead. Make life easier with some enchantments! đŚ Bring a chalkboard or a dry erase board. It doesnât have to be huge, but these can be really handy, especially if you use them for sigils. You can draw whatever sigils on them whenever you like and erase those you donât want to have around anymore. Simply charge them (perhaps with an enchanted marker) after you draw them! đŚ Bring something to motivate or reconnect you with witchcraft. During school, we may fall out of practice. School gets busy and tough, so donât feel down about not being able to practice 24/7, but definitely bring something to motivate you for those days when you are free and could be practicing, but you donât because you may be feeling disconnected or something. It could be a poster, crystal, sachet, or a charm. Have it where you can see and touch it- it could be above your bed, on your desk, wherever. Use it to help you practice again.

The âI Can Do This!â Motivation bottle.
I made this little bottle for my wife at work, but Iâve decided to post it because I know finals are coming up and I think this could be helpful for those of you who are juggling your finals with the rest of your life!Â
All of these things came from my kitchen spice cabinets, so nothing too crazy or difficult to find here!
I made this as something that embodied what is needed to get through the tough days. It isnât a good luck charm, just something to bring out the best thing already in you.
Each layer is for a different piece of what makes up a good, productive day in my opinion, so here we go!
Sea salt - for protection
Cinnamon - for success & wisdom
Sage - for peace
Caraway seeds - for mental power
Basil - for confidence
Rosemary - for mental clarity
Red Pepper flakes - for energy
I find that saying my intent out loud really helps me to know that it is there, the more I say something out loud, the more I feel like it is true and real, so I focus on saying my intent for each layer out loud, over and over until I really do feel it there. I also find that saying these things out loud, and being sure of them, helps you to realize that there really IS power in your words. You have power to speak these words and really bring life to them because you are stating, whole-heartedly that this rosemary is going to bring mental clarity to your day. Donât be afraid to spend as much time as you need to on each layer to feel like your intent is there. This helps me, personally.Â
Once youâre filled up, put the cork back in, tightly. I would recommend packing these layers in tightly also, so if you care them around in your pocket, they donât all mix together if you donât want them to.
After, I sealed my bottle with wax (mine was vanilla scented because it is my wifeâs favorite scent and itâs something that really makes her happy) - (also I will make a little post about how I seal up little bottles with wax later on!) and sat with it for quite a while, really focusing the intent into the whole bottle, and what you want for it as a whole. Like before, I sat repeating out loud until I really felt it and believed it with the knowing that my words have power!
I hope this was helpful!Â
Little tips for the college witch!
I know personally how hard it can be to maintain doing the witchy things you love when youâre at college. Here are some things you can do that donât take long while youâre at college!
1.) Do a one card tarot reading for yourself! My favorite is just asking:Â âWhat should I work on today?â This prevents any worrying cards from popping up and discouraging you in your academic endeavors.
2.) Sigils sigils sigils! Write them in your notebooks, on your art supplies, whatever! Scroll through this tag and check out what they have!
3.) Use your desk as a mini sacred space! You almost always have a desk at college, so if you do, fill a space with your little witchy things. One shelf of my desk holds crystals, a salt lamp, my tarot cards, and essential oils and herbs!
4.) Cleansing: My favorite method of cleansing is by using sage, but we arenât allowed to have smoke in the dorms. Instead, I place my crystals near a salt lamp! The light from the lamp with cleanse the objects placed near it. You can just leave your lamp on while youâre in the room, and itâll do the cleansing for you! (Please note that not all crystals should touch salt! Some can be highly toxic, so please do your research.)Â
5.) Spell jars! You might not even be allowed to have candles in your room, or you might need to be a little more low-key with roommates. Spell jars are a great low-key way to do spells. Here is a great masterpostÂ
6.) Crystals! Throw a crystal in your bag with you when headed off to class. Citrine is an easy and affordable crystal that is great for confidence!
7.) Donât be discouraged. A witch that only practices once a month is still a witch. If you canât do any of these other tips, just practice the more internal practices of your own craft. This can include being mindful, having a vegetarian/vegan meal, and even meditating for a quick second while in the bathroom stall! Your craft is your own. (These are just some examples. Follow your own craft and beliefs when doing this.)
I hope some of these tips helped you! Feel free to add some more.Â

Fast Acting Curse - Drowning in a Fire-Filled Abyss
Here is a curse that should work pretty fast, and is inspired by the smell of cayenne pepper and the boosting power of coffee.
What youâll need:
1 tbsp. Coffee grounds (instant coffee works too) (to boost the spell and make it work faster)
1 tbsp. Cinnamon (to boost the spell and add a bit of ammunition to the fire)
4 tbsp. Cayenne Pepper (to start the fire)
1 tbsp. Hot Sauce (to add as a drowning agent as well as a fire starter)
Salt (to burn their eyes)
Paper poppet with the name of your target written on it (to represent your target)
Jar painted black (to serve as an abyss)
Add everything to the jar and seal it. Draw a sigil for power (I have one on my blog specific to curses) on the lid or on the bottom. Place in a box, and surround it with images of the target (optional).
Shake to activate, or charge under the moon.
