Time to find your juicer and treat yourself with something fresh and full of vitamins!Â
If youâre passionate and patient, youâll love to create your own juices. However, we made a list of the most common mistakes to avoid when youâll juice your own nectars.Â
1. Not washing your fruits and veggies
Yum! germs and pesticides in your juice... We donât want that. To prevent that, the rule is simple: thoroughly wash the fruits and veggies! Choose fresh, organic, local and seasonal products that you love. This way, you also help an agriculture that is more environmentally friendly. If you donât use organic, peel the fruits and veggies to significantly reduce the amount of pesticides. The best would be to harvest your own fruits and veggies but thatâs less simple... đ
2. Using only fruits, no veggiesÂ
Fruits are naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants but also in sugar. In your juice, you should respect a 60% veggies - 40% fruits rate so it tastes fruity but has a reasonable quantity of sugar. If you choose green veggies, itâs even better! Our favorites: spinach and kale which are rich in chlorophyl, calcium and iron. Add superfoods and voila! Enjoy.
3. Waiting too long before drinking your juiceÂ
Vitamins change with light and heat. You must drink your juice as soon as itâs ready if you want to enjoy all its benefits. If you donât have much time, you can keep it in an airtight container for 24 to 48 hours, refrigerated. It will remain good, but will lose some of its nutrients.
4. Drinking it too quickly
Drinking slowly helps digestion and therefore facilitate the absorption of the juiceâs nutrients. Youâll also feel better! Take the time to really enjoy this healthy made-with-love beverage â€ïž
5. Drinking your juice with a meal
Itâs better to consume your juice when your stomach is empty so your system really focuses on the absorption of the good nutrients. Best times to drink it: in the morning before breakfast or between two meals when your energy levels are low!
Ready, set, juice!

I think this Summer is one of the hottest summers Iâve ever lived; I keep looking for places with AC, for pools and for ice cream stands.Â
So, when I received my weekly pack full of juices in my apartment that doesnât have air conditioner (đplease send help), I immediately thought of transforming them into popsicles.
The result was so refreshing and delicious that I decided to share this easy peasy recipe with you.
Here it goes!
You need:
- a popsicle mold
- your favorite Dose juices (I chose Melon, Taxi and Zest)
- fruits (I chose blackberries, but you can choose anything)
Preparation:
- fill half of each mold with your juices
- freeze for an hourÂ
- fill the rest of the molds with the rest of the juices
(make sure each popsicle is made with two different juices - itâs so pretty!)
- add fruits on the top
- freeze for about two hours
- enjoy â€ïž

Tips: double the lettuce to make it more solid. By http://www.glutenfreeveganpantry.com/avocado-chickpea-lettuce-wraps/

Your new boyfriend/girlfriend is gluten intolerant and all your classic restaurants are no longer options for romantic dates? Donât panic! If you donât mind asking questions and scrutinize menus, youâll find many cool spots to eat with your lover in Montreal. With my 25 years of experience in the magical world of gluten-free, I present you some of my favorites in the city!
Pssst. You can even bring your friends who think gluten-free means no-bread, no-taste, no-dessert... they wonât even notice!
AREPERA
The Arepera restaurant is known for their arepas: a Venezuelan bun made of grilled corn and filled with pulled meat or blacks beans or fish. Then they can add avocados, feta cheese, tomatoes, plantain bananas and many other delicious things. Trust me, itâs worth a try! Itâs a great option for a quick dinner or an afternoon snack. The place just moved from a tiny space on Duluth to a lovely new spot on Prince-Arthur. As itâs now on a pedestrian street, itâs nice if you want to take your arepa as take-out and eat it while wandering on Saint-Laurent boulevard! (Photo Facebook Arepera du Plateau)
RUMI
Rumi is located between Outremont and the Mile-End, but hidden from Parc streetâs hubbub. Their tasty plates ares inspired by the typical cookings from Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia. Their mezes (dishes to share) will make everyone happy. On the menu: hummus, pistachio labneh, feta mousse, marinated peppers, lamb sausages and much more. As these plates are often eaten with naan bread, note that they can be replaced with corn tortillas - gluten free!
The restaurant also serves brunch from 11am to 3pm. The dates omelette or breakfast-tajine will make you feel like starting the day abroad. Sipping a mint tea and relaxing on their large terrace, thatâs a great way to spend your morning! (Photo Facebook Restaurant Rumi)
MAĂS
This one quickly became one of my favorites; itâs one of the best places for tacos in Montreal. Make no mistake: the restaurant itself and its patio may be tiny but demand is high! Their tacos are always gluten-free and sometimes vegetarian. Their great mixes of toppings are a big win and, if you ask me, are particularly yummy with a Margarita on the side! (Photo Facebook Restaurant MaĂŻs)
LE MARQUIS
Thanks to this amazing bakery I was able to make peace with my gluten-free condition. These flaky pastry magicians offer croissants and chocolate croissants that taste like âthe real ones.â (If you have never eaten a croissant in your life, youâre welcome!) They also have a large choice of breads and bagels, quiches, chicken pies, pizzas and sandwichs baguettes! I bet youâll leave the place with a bag full of delicious finds! (Photo Facebook Boulangerie Le Marquis sans gluten)
BYBLOS LE PETIT CAFĂ
Throughout the seasons, this place is beautiful and bright due to its large windows. During summer, they open these windows to let a soft breeze tickle our skin. Blyblos is known for its typical Middle-Eastern cuisine. Even if youâre not used to this type of food, youâll find something to really enjoy! Personally, I always take the feta omelette and the cucumber and raisins yogurt on the side. If Iâm really hungry, I add their saffron rice and olives. Always lovely! (Photo Tastet)
LE POINT SANS G
The adventure started as a foodtruck for gluten intolerants but has now opened a ârealâ restaurant where they offer a huge selection of products that change almost every week. For brunch, you must make a reservation because places are limited in this tiny restaurant. The Point sans G makes all gluten intolerantsâ dreams come true (or almost): fried chicken on waffles, red velvet pancakes or breakfast poutines! (The place is actually closed because of an incident but will re-open soon.)Â (Photo Facebook Le point sans g)
MANDYâS
This is a classic for people working downtown Montreal who âforgetâ their lunches. Mandyâs is perfect if youâre looking for something healthy and nutritious. You can choose among their pre-built salads or create a custom version. Their menu is easy to read with little gluten-free symbols next to some of the choices. Good news: almost all of their dressings are gluten-free! Also, their list of ingredients is vast and always fresh. (Photo Facebook Mandyâs)
LES FILLETTES
This neighborhood bistro has everything: classy enough for a dinner with your parents, a pleasant and helpful staff plus a perfect selection of imported wines; definitely one of my all-time favorites. Most importantly: gluten is never a problem. Theyâre happy to rearrange their plates for you. Their first and main courses are truly delectable. They also have a big terrace surrounded by romantic little lightbulbs. What else do we need? (Photo Facebook Les fillettes)
Note: they just opened a âbistroâ where you can share smaller dishes and a glass of wine for cheaper price. No matter what, you should definitely try this place at least once in your life!Â
10 foods youâve been eating wrong your whole life
Do you cut your watermelons in triangle shape? Do you peel your kiwis before eating them? And the peas, do you pick each one of them with a fork?Â
Time to change!!! Time to make your life easier.
1. WATERMELON
Instead of cutting it into triangles and having juice running down each side of your mouth, you can cut your watermelon in half and then cut lengthwise and crosswise to obtain kind of watermelon sticks. Easier and cleaner to eat!
2. MANGO
Cut it in half leaving the core behind. Grab a good mug and place the mango, between the fruit and the skin, against the mug and push it down. The fruit will fall into the glass and the peel will be gone gone gone.
3. KIWI
Did you know that the most nutritious part of it is its skin? To get all these nutrients, slice your kiwis in thin layers and eat it like chips.
4. GREEN PEAS
Picking each pea with a fork makes it hard to eat⊠An easy way to eat peas is to simply mash them with a fork instead!Â
5. BANANA
Instinctively, we try to peal it from the top but did you know that chimps and monkeys actually peal it from the bottom? And these animals are kind of the experts it comes to bananas, right? So peal your banana from the bottom by pinching the tip and it will easily split!
6. APPLE
Once you remove the stem of an apple, e-ve-ry-thing can be eaten from the fruit! No more waste.
7. SALADS
Salads make excellent lunches. But when you already mix everything the texture can become unappetizing. To change that: use a Mason jar, put the dressing in the bottom, add crunchy veggies, nuts and fruits. Then add the leaves. The veggies and other stuff between the dressing and the leaves will prevent the leaves from becoming wet!
8. TACOS
So you like hard shell tacos? We get it. Isnât that annoying though when the shell cracks after your first bite and everything falls apart? The solution is simple: put some lettuce around the shell. It will protect it and create a double-layer to save all this amazing stuff you added in the shell.
9. ORANGE
Peeling an orange is quite a job and your fingers become all nasty. Instead, cut each edge of the fruit and make a slice from bottom to top. Then, roll it to open it!Â
10. PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY
What a classic! However keeping everything together can be hard. To help: place a generous amount of PB on the edges of the slices. Then add a generous amount of jelly in the middle. Finally, press the breads together.Â
Eat simple folks, thereâs too much complicated stuff in life!đÂ

Tadam!
Nowadays, when everything seems to be going super fast and when time seems to be a scarce resource, people often allow themselves to sleep less or simply neglect their sleep altogether⊠This can lead to many problems. Of course, when that happens, people may feel different during the day: feeling less effective at work and having difficulty to focus. However, some studies showed that a lack of sleep could also affect how other people around us see us.
In fact, participants who took part in a study by having not slept enough were qualified as looking less healthy and less attractive than when they had had enough sleep. Another study also demonstrated that people who hadnât slept enough were perceived as having puffy eyelids, lighter skin, red eyes, more wrinkles and fine lines around their mouths, and simply looking sadder in general. This study even concludes by saying that a personâs eyes and mouth are key communication elements and that, when altered, could have an impact on their social sphere as a whole.
So, here are a few tips to improve your sleep quality (for your health as well as for your looks!):
Stay away from caffeine after 3PM
This includes teas, matchas, coffees and any other stimulant products that can keep you awake.
Bedroom: for sleep and sex only
Your bedroom shouldnât be the place for anything else except these two activities as to not disrupt your sleep.
Calm atmosphere
Roomâs temperature should be cool, not cold, and the decor should be peaceful. Also, you should choose sheets that are not too warm.
Avoid alcohol
Maybe you fall asleep more quickly when you take a glass or two, but your sleep cycles are disrupted.
Donât nap for more than one hour, and do it before 3PM
Get up if you canât fall asleep!
If youâve been in bed for 30 minutes and are still not sleeping, get up, get out of the bedroom and do something that doesnât involve a screen (reading or writing for instance). Come back to bed only when you feel like you will easily fall asleep.

Did you know that chimpanzees and humans have more than 98% of common genes?
Did you also know that chimpanzees and humans are genetically more related than chimpanzees and gorillas?
And did you know that just outside of Montreal, in the suburb of Carignan, exists a sanctuary where chimps are being taken care of?
Fauna Foundation is a refuge for animals that have been mistreated and/or rescued from zoos, labs and other entertainment or agriculture industries.
Seven of the eleven chimps there come from biomedical research in the US. They were used in invasive studies, including HIV research (which means some of them are infected with HIV). Before arriving at Fauna, their lives were limited to 5x5x7 feet cages.
Some, like Blackie and Dolly, lived at Parc Safari for over 4 decades. And the others, Tatu and Loulis, came from a Chimpanzee & Human Communication Institute in the US, which is now closed, and where they learned to use American Sign Language! They currently still use Sign Language with Dr Mary-Lee Jensvold, a Primate Communication Scientist who works at Fauna, and other caregivers who know ASL.
When chimpanzees arrive at the sanctuary, theyâre in bad shape. Their mental health is quite fragile: some start plucking their own hair while others suffer from an important post traumatic stress disorder along with self-abuse.
Chance, one of the females, couldnât even stand on the floor when she arrivedâŠ
FAUNA â€ïž
The devoted and passionate employees of Fauna are guardian angels and make sure the chimps" arrival is as smooth as possible. They welcome the chimps with their favorite foods and objects in order to avoid an overwhelming or too drastic transition. Then, they set a healthy routine bit by bit for these new residents.
We had the privilege to visit the sanctuary last Summer to learn more about Fauna's mission but also the destiny of its dwellers. Dr Jensvold and all the team really ease the lives of the animals living there. If the beginning of their existence wasnât fun and free, Fauna makes sure the rest of it is filled with happiness, good care and love.
Doctor Mary Lee Jensvold
Dr Jensvold was the director of the Chimpanzee & Human Communication Institute in Ellensburg (WA) before it closed. She was also an Associate Professor in Primate Behavior and Anthropology at Central Washington University. She has worked with two of Faunaâs chimps (Tatu and Loulis) before they arrived here in 2013. She pursued teaching for a year at the university before coming to Fauna full time, back to her friends Loulis and Tatu.
Funny story: she told me Tatu was kind of angry that she was abandoned for a year⊠so she wouldnât « speak » to her when she came to the sanctuary in 2014. Fortunately, everythingâs back to normal now!
Chimps and juices!
Almost a year ago, before our visit, and even before we even knew about Faunaâs Foundation, we realized the refuge was buying many of our juices on a regular basis and it tickled our curiosity. We contacted the people working there and thatâs how we learned that one of their chimpanzees, Tatu, drinks DOSE juice every day!
We simply couldnât believe it!
They told us Tatu, like the others had a whole food diet, primarily vegan. However she had a few digestive problems and so drinking DOSE was a way to make sure she had an excellent nutrition. She loves our juices and has 2 per day! Can you believe that?
Moved by Fauna's mandate and its chimps, we decided to get involved and now freely provide Tatu with our juices.
I would like to thank Mary Lee Jensvold for her precious time and generosity. Also, thank you to and all the amazing team at Fauna for doing such an inspiring and noble job.
Dr Jensvold believes we, humans, have a lot to learn from chimpanzees, such as our place in nature and the importance of humility. We couldnât agree more.

They are always in need of volunteers, donations, etc.
What if the feeling of happiness depended on the content of our plate?
It is now known that some nutrients in foods tend to make us happier. Their action is not only fast and comforting as it is often the case when we eat greasy and sugary foods (pfff! we never do thisđ). A healthy and balanced diet can have a real beneficial effect on our mood and energy!
Here are our favorite happy foods!
BEETSÂ
Itâs hard to compete with the amazing beet. Beets contain betaine, which helps serotonin production in the brain, thus elevating our mood. They also are a source of folic acid, which stabilizes our emotions, improving our chances of happiness with every bite.
Our juices and smoothies with beets: SAMBA, UPBEET, STRAWBERRY HILL
FRESH GINGER
Ginger is a root famous for its aphrodisiac powers that awakens our taste buds and our bodies ;) Less known is its antibacterial and antiviral effect that helps stimulate the digestive and immune system, lowering fevers, protecting the liver and preventing nauseas and digestive disorders. Ginger boosts your body and your spirit!
Our juices and smoothies with ginger: TANGO, SAMBA, YOGI, CACTUS, BRIGHT SIDE
SPINACH
Not only does spinach can make you as strong as Popeye but it can also make you happy, thanks to two components: magnesium and folic acid. Magnesium is known for its tranquilizing and relaxing effects, perfect when you are feeling a little down. To stay focused and concentrated all day long while keeping your good mood, one cup (250 mL) of fresh spinach will do a great job; it contains 15 % of the daily recommended level of folate.
Our juices and smoothies with spinach: YOGI, CACTUS, FOCUS, GREEN LIGHT
ORANGES
With an orange you will not only satisfy your sweet tooth, youâll be loading your diet with Vitamin C, which has been linked to the reduce of anxiety and depression. It will boost your immune system with antioxidants and also help your digestion. A fantastic way to start the day with a great deal of energy!
Our juices with oranges: SAMBA, ZEST
FLAXSEEDS
Just a single serving of flaxseeds contains 6,3 mg of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 that helps boost our mood. Hereâs how ALA works: when your blood levels of ALA are low, so are you; low ALA levels increase the risk of inflammation, which has been linked to depression. The flaxseeds fibers can help improve the health of your gut, making your whole body healthier and happier.
Our smoothies with flaxseeds: STRAWBERRY HILL, UPBEET, GREEN LIGHT, BRIGHT SIDE, MATCHA
KALE
This leafy green does have some serious happiness-boosting potential! Full of vitamin C, B-6, potassium, iron and magnesium, kale is one of natureâs best anti-depression foods. Potassium is an electrolyte that helps lower blood pressure. So useful if you feel a little tense!
Our juices and smoothies with kale: YOGI, CACTUS, FOCUS, GREEN LIGHT, MATCHA, SAMBA
BANANAS
Banana contains up to 10 mg of dopamine, this chemical substance in our brain responsible for feelings of joy. Banana is also a source of tryptophan, a protein that stimulates the production of serotonin, the mood regulating hormone. Serotonin is known to be a powerful natural relaxant. When you feel stressed or tired, banana helps regulate our mood.
Our smoothies with bananas: STRAWBERRY HILL, UPBEET, MATCHA
