           she paused for just a moment, long enough for a beat too pass before her lips smoothed over his. pulling his lower lip into her mouth gently. this wasn’t out of HUNGER or need, this was because she W A N T E D to. “i know.” she whispered when she pulled back. “you don’t have to TELL me, but  i know.”

as she saw through the darkness who was before her, the veins beneath her eyes receded and her eyes became clear. it had been merely a week ago she helped the boy in the herb shop. when he laughed at the sight, noelle’s confidence faded and she stood with her tail between her legs. “you act like i had a choice.” noelle mustered out softly.

          — fate was something that the original no longer believed in. you MADE your own fate. KARMA however she’d witnessed time & time again, some by her hand, other by another. so meeting ryan, well it was F A T E, & she didn’t believe it. fingers reaching forward, stroking the supple skin of his cheeks, she simply smiled. “i am now.” she didn’t care how SAPPY it sounded, it wasn’t far from the truth at all.

“It’s pathetic, il est faible, mais toi…You’re the strong one. If only we had you in our family instead of him.” Even with her team, she spoke poorly of her younger brother, but that was how it was when he wasn’t too keen on a family business that lasted now for more than eight generations. “Powerful, or not. I just need something better to do. I might die of boredom.” She chuckled. “I make him send me out on errands. At the very least I can fool around without him watching.”

“hmm,” emma responded in her usual purr. “that depends what you can handle.” she approached him, running the flat end of the blade across his chest. “i can be quite– ruthless,” the last word was whispered into his ear before gently biting at his lobe. teasing. always teasing.

she was grateful for his reassurance. for the comforting touch of his fingers lacing with her own. it’d been such a long time since marissa had felt a platonic touch. any touch. the witch had locked herself away for so long. isolated herself from everybody she’d once known. so it was almost foreign for her to experience friendship once more. if that’s even what you would call this with ryan. but it was better than nothing. “yeah i– i might,” marissa responded, forcing a smile on to her face as she stood up. she gripped his hand tightly as they walked, refusing to let go even if he wanted to. it was mainly for her own sanity. whenever she neared the graveyard, it was difficult to tune out the voices. the spirits of the dead. she didn’t want to deal with them right now. so focused on just walking straight. ryan’s hand keeping her tethered to the earth. to reality. but as they were in the middle of the cemetery, she heard one particular voice. it was calling ryan’s name. but why would it be calling ryan’s name? but then it was more clear. a man’s voice. definitely calling out to him. marissa stopped suddenly, yanking on ryan’s arm as she did so. “ryan–” she said, listening hard. “ryan someone is– there’s someone calling for you. a man. he’s–” she gazed at him, eyes not exactly focused as she concentrated. “your father?”

Ryan wasn’t particularly focused on anything as they walked, choosing to zone out and rid himself of whatever he was feeling. He found it easier to simply ignore it than try to understand it. Instead he focused on Marissa, how she would cope with all of this, and if she would hate him in the morning. Not that he should care. When he felt her hand tug at his, indicating that she had suddenly stopped, he turned around to see what was wrong. “What do you mean--” Then he froze at the mention of his father. His skin quickly grew pale, almost a sickly colour, as the duffel bag fell from his grasp. All he could do was stare at her, his entire body refusing to function until it all suddenly hit him at once. His eyes slowly drifted towards a grave stone, one that read ‘Elliot Haynes, loving father and husband’, and the realization caused his knees to tremble. He never spoke of his family around Marissa and he knew she was clairvoyant but yet he refused to believe it. “Don’t--” He shook his head as he snatched his hand away from hers. “You’re lying.” He repeated over and over as he began to pace around in circles. He couldn’t even think coherently to feel ashamed over how weak he was currently acting. “He’s dead...he’s dead... you can’t--” He choked out as tears began to trickle down his cheeks, a foreign sensation to him.

she shook her head, “ i never said that.. i don’t mind company. i just feel like i’m bothering you. ”

noelle’s throat and stomach untwisted when she sank her FANGS into the flesh of the woman before her, blood filling her mouth and pouring down her throat. noelle was gulping down mouthful after mouthful of the bittersweet substance when she heard steps behind her. she let the woman fall to the ground in a loud thud before turning to face the figure. dark veins still protruded from under her eyes that were cloudy with blood lust as she took a step towards the figure.

   — despite her hard exterior, she almost MELTED around him. her icy heart beats in her chest. it was strange, he brought out the most H U M A N parts that she buried beneath a monstrous attitude. “ — your SECRET is safe with me.” she murmured, his contentedness rolling from his being, washing over her as she relaxed. 

it was the most affectionate he had ever been to her. there was a part of marissa that wanted to just fling herself into his arms. to be held and told it was going to be okay. that what she did wasn’t wrong. but what a ridiculous thought. though she liked the slight touch and reassuring words, the witch was actually content with what she got. six simple words validated what she just did. actually; marissa didn’t feel all that bad about it. empowered. that was the word to describe her current feelings. after getting the voices back in place. becoming in control again. marissa actually felt empowered. strong. like she was capable of things. “thanks,” she responded, with a smile. like a school child who just got a gold star. “your training actually paid off, i guess.” though, whatever her current feelings, the female wasn’t sure whether she would be able to pull this off again. not in this type of situation, anyway. but maybe she wasn’t so helpless anymore. “that was– he was a monster, right?” an arm shot out suddenly and she grabbed his hand. maybe she needed a little more comfort. hands were still trembling slightly, after all.

Ryan could not explain how he was feeling, the emotion being somewhat foreign to him. Perhaps he was drawn to Marissa because she seemed to be just as broken as he is, except she wouldn’t know that about him. No one did. It was his best kept secret. He barley even knew. Ryan always actively sought out any sort of emotion to rid him of his numbness but he would prefer the emptiness right about now. He felt so incredibly uneasy and it was starting to affect him in a way he never thought possible. “Yeah, he was a monster.” He nodded his head. There was no doubt the vampire killed someone, although that did not matter to him in the slightest. It never did. His morals have long been lost. Ryan laced his fingers with hers, a comfort he needed for himself, as he pulled the both of them from the ground. “Let’s cut through the graveyard.” He picked up the duffel bag with his free hand and slung it over the shoulder. “You can stay with me tonight, if you want. I’m sure you don’t want to be alone.”

they were in the man’s apartment. he was sitting on the edge of his couch, eyes glassed over. under emma’s compulsion. she didn’t know whether ryan was up to what plan was forming in her head. but that was what made all the more thrilling. “having fun yet?” the vampire asked, as she gently ran her finger along the edge of the sharp knife. it drew blood, but then it healed just as quickly.

“ patience is a nice virtue to have. ” she stated as she sipped from her mug. it wasn’t as if she’d been inviting the man to tag along when she left but it apparently came off that way. “ no, i know. i don’t think you’re a child, i was just saying i’d be leaving soon and you’ll have the table to yourself. ”

“Yeah, I suppose so.” It wasn’t a trait he particularly cared about, nor even thought he had. “Oh, I see. I guess you wanted to be alone too, huh? My bad.” He shrugged. He would get over it rather quickly. 

noelle turned around, eyes being drawn away from her book by a voice. “ something… specific? ” her brows drew together. the herb shop catered to noelle’s curious mind as she found out bits and pieces of everyone’s life from what they bought from her grandmother and those alike. however, she only witnessed the purchases hidden in a corner distracted by a book or her phone. it only took a couple days for noelle to figure out that the witches that resided in the herb shop were outcasts and it was unlike her to be alone and at the front counter. however, she was open to listening to the boy in front of her.
