both george and oscar are more popular than alex that's why. There is no logic for ao3 ship stats if there was anything like chemistry and solid interactions needed for a ship to be popular then oscar's only ship with more than 100 works would only be landoscar😊
i wouldn't exactly agree with lando/oscar being the only oscar ship that should be popular based on interactions and chemistry. naturally we get a lot of interactions bc they are teammates, but oscar has been spending more time off track with other drivers than with lando, and it's not like lando is the only guy on the grid he's got decent chemistry with. anyway that's not the relevant matter to me
the point is popular f1 ships, if the actual lore or interactions are scarce, usually have a moment, or a string of events, some big interaction or incident that sets it off in motion. for example carlos/oscar is also quite a popular ship with two drivers that rarely interact with each other, but it's sudden boom in popularity can clearly be traced to miami24-monaco24 strings of crashes, the subsequent podium with the couch moment during the press conference and carlos saying the "magnet" line. a lot of things happening in a short amount of time setting the whole ship in motion and feeding it for months of no actual interactions happening. i'm curious what's the catalyst that has lead to george/oscar explosion in fics, it's strange to me to see such a popular ship that just bloomed on its own, so i presume i must be missing something that has happened
