Confused, Liz blinked her eyes and in a panic scanned her surroundings. She was in the hospital? Still completely disoriented, she lifted her hand, only to find herself hooked up to an IV drip and her head wrapped in gauze. What the hell happened? When she couldn’t remember, Elizabeth willed herself not to cry and once again searched the room for anything familiar or perhaps a call button or something. Her parents must have been beside themselves with worry. This time, as she lolled her head, she noticed a man sleeping in the nearby chair. He looked a mess; like he hadn’t changed his clothes in days. His hair was disheveled and his face was sort of hidden by a scruffy beard. Maybe she’d been in some sort of horrific car accident and he was the other driver? Logically it would make sense. Sort of? If he had been responsible for her injury, he might have remained at her side to make sure she didn’t die. Or perhaps from a purely legal perspective, he thought she’d be less likely to press charges if she saw him as sympathetic and remorseful? Asshole. No, no. She couldn’t draw conclusions. Maybe he was a friend of the family or long lost relative? He could have been anyone. Hell, he could have been the hospital custodian, taking quick catnap on his break. Well, regardless of who he was, she needed his assistance. Between the wires affixed to her chest, IV line in her arm and bloodpressure cuff, Liz was essentially imobilized. Fuck. “Hello?” She called out, irritated by the fact her voice was so low and scratchy. He’d never hear her. “Ummm, excuse me. I - I’m not entirely sure where I am or how I got here, so could you wake up? Please.”
