I think that the Harry Potter books were shaky at best... Honestly. I felt like they were good companions to the book, but I don't understand how anyone who hadn't read the books got anything out of the movies.
One book to movie series that I think is amazing is Hunger Games. Rather than trying to be the book in visual form, they changed the way they told the story to fit expectations of a movie. A lot of times movies based on books that are written in first person narrative attempt to have that inner dialogue running through the whole movie and it just doesn't work (for example, Twilight. I just want to scream "Shut up, Kristen Stewart" whenever I watch those movies), so Hunger Games avoids that kind of narration. Anyway, hands down best adaptation ever.Â
