Hook wordlessly becoming Lou lou and her daughters bodyguard whenever they come to visit danhausen at work.
"Hook, you realize you don't have to do this, right?" Lou Lou tries for what must be the thousandth time.
"Yup," her husband's best friend pops the 'P' in time with the bubblegum in his mouth. He mimes her daughter's Frankie Stein doll walking with a distinctive sluggish gait.
"Let him stay, mom!" Her daughter CW insists with a wide grin that she could've only gotten from her stepfather. "He plays Monster High the best. He really gets the ghouls." In her hands is a Toralei and the doll's accessories, in this case a microphone that her daughter is pretending the doll is singing into.
"What's she singing?" Hook asks with a supportive smile and an interested gleam in his eyes.
"The Addams Family theme song!" CW beams.
"Hook plays even better than Daddyhausen?" Danhausen asks, holding a Cleo De Nile doll in his hands and looking genuinely hurt.
"Daddyhausen, you make Clawdeen eat her friends!" His daughter sounds positively exasperated with her demonic dad's playing style.
Hook snickers but muffles it. "Yeah, D, she doesn't eat her friends."
"She is a werewolf! Werewolves eat people!"
"Excuse me!" A smarmy sounding voice interrupts the calm, peaceful environment.
Hook's eyes flicker to the doorway, back straightening. It's Mark Sterling, someone Hook can't trust as far as he can throw him.
"What does Smarky Mark want with Danhausen's family?" Danhausen demands, standing up to stand in front of his wife and daughter. Hook joins him at his side.
"I'm here not for you, but for your gorgeous wife," Sterling says rudely, eyes falling onto Lou Lou. She cringes outwardly when he flashes her a disgusting grin. "How would you feel about"-
He lets out an exaggerated noise of protest when someone slaps his sternum. "Let's go outside for a talk, man to man," Hook says, eyes hooded and voice emotionless but frowning. With his fingers curled around Sterling's tie, he drags the lawyer outside the locker room and shuts the door behind him.
Lou Lou looks at her husband. "I hope a talk is all Hook's having with that lawyer," she tries to be stern to be a good example for their daughter, but she's smiling in a way that shows off her teeth and in a way she can't help.
"Hook isn't much of a talker, mom," CW says nonchalantly. "He's cracking that guy's numbskull."
Her inflection is identical to Hook. Lou Lou's jaw drops and Danhausen guffaws.
"Yes, yes, darling, that's exactly what Hook is doing," Danhausen chuckles, proud of his little girl for her uncanny ability to understand those around her. It's a rare gift.
Hook comes back in the room moments later. "He won't bother you guys ever again," he promises before taking his seat back at the table. "I believe Toralei was about to put on an encore of the Munsters theme?"
"The Munsters theme doesn't have lyrics," Lou Lou says, but her delighted husband and daughter ignore her in favor of making up their own lyrics to the iconic tv show theme song. Hook is smiling tenderly, and she finds herself doing the same.
Her husband sure has the best, most interesting friends, and she's grateful this young man is in her family now.
