“you aren’t going to hang out with me anymore?” hien tilts his head.
“you know why” audrey avoids eye contact as she grabs her things, he’s quick to grab her wrist with a reasonable grip.
“what?”
“i’m a hero and you’re..”
“what? a villain? that wasn’t a problem with you before. are we not.. i dont know…something?”
audrey awkwardly pulls away from his grip. unsure what to respond with, and he doesn’t bother to pull her back. she fidgets with the hem of her shirt “i’m not following—“ her sentence is interrupted by his loud groan.
“of course! of course you do not get it! you are allergic to taking me seriously! we meet up privately, i treat your wounds, i fucking tutor you!” the nervous grin she had slowly faded. he turns his head to look at something else, anything. “and i was slowly starting to think..” refusing to look at her shaky confused pupils because he knows he put her in an uncomfortable position. hien pauses just to swallows his pride, “that you liked me too.”
he watched her lips part slightly as he managed to mutter out his suffocating confession.
she couldn’t find the courage to look him in the eyes. it was weird, because she thought about it, countless of times. giving up on this stupid hero thing and just living a normal life despite her powers and pour it all on somebody else. would things be different, if they met on different circumstances?
hien couldn’t tell what was she was thinking. all the thoughts running through her head cease the moment he deeply sighs at her lack of acknowledgement “look. i get it, you save lives while i destroy ambition, yes?”
“so tell me malai, tell me it’s unrequited. move your stupid stupid feet and walk away and break my heart.
she stood facing away from him as she exhaled “i thought i told you not to call me that.” conflicted, audrey knew choosing him meant betraying the friends she had, the pain and suffering they endured would be meaningless if she decided to listen to her own desires.
“can’t i be just a little selfish and tell you to stay?”
audrey finally started to realize why she despised him so much, it was not because he was just a cold hearted villain. not because the way he carried himself so confidently and contained. and definitely not because he saw her powers as apart of her.
it was because he had everything she didn’t, a normal life.
he was wrong, she did take him seriously, more than he knows. she bit her lip, as she cursed at herself for letting her burning envy turned into something more.
audrey shakes her head “we cant.. this is..” as she turns back around to face him, he was gone.
