Code Geass Lists

Yeah, this is bad timing just after a return from a hiatus.

I’d like to start off by saying that I have really really appreciated all of your support - I really didn’t expect this blog to do nearly as well as it did, and the positive reaction has really done a lot to lift my spirits and encourage me to keep pursuing my authorial dreams.

But simply, my irregular posting times, schedule changes, and frequent hiatuses were all because I was losing interest in the Lists project, something which I began over a year ago as essentially an experiment. My declining interests led to writer’s block, which by this stage has left me unable to even think of responses for my latest requests. Operating according to deadlines has also been stressful, even with as much time as I allowed myself to reach them, because (and I’m sure many people on tumblr have experienced the same), when faced with a stressful situation I waste long hours and even days trying to distract myself. Unfortunately list-making has become a chore rather than a hobby. While nursing this reluctance I continued because I didn’t want to let you guys down, but with declining enthusiasm comes declining quality, so continuing at this stage would ultimately be frustrating for me and disappointing for you.

This blog will continue to exist to preserve what I’ve already made. It’s not impossible that I might return to make more lists someday, but at the moment it looks unlikely. I would like to thank all of my followers, and all of you who have ever sent in a request or commented on, reblogged or liked a post. In particular I want to thank nynynightmare, projectcluclu, knightofroyalty, thegreatrhapsode, lpbelligerents, hollowgirl136, mystery478 and alternaterealityself, whose enthusiasm has been a constant source of inspiration and solace to me. And of course to bleachlists, for giving me the idea and letting me do this in the first place.

The blog has been a fantastic experience, and I’m glad that I could contribute what I could to our fandom. Keep the Rebellion going in my stead!

I did promise it would be temporary, didn’t I?

Exams are over and I am free, so lists will become a regular thing again every Sunday from next week onwards. The ask box will be reopened as well. Looking forward to getting back in the swing of things!

The revision time of year has come around again so unfortunately I will not be able to produce lists on a weekly basis for the time being. I will let you know when my schedule is free enough for weekly production again!

Obi-Wan: So did you mentor the protagonist?

C.C.: Well, I gave him his power. And I guess I told him how to use it.

Obi-Wan: You guess?

C.C.: I mostly told him some vague metaphors like “this is the Power of Kings” and “those who use Geass are doomed to walk a path of solitude”. I thought it was helpful but Lelouch didn’t really seem to appreciate it.

Obi-Wan: So, like...”May the Force be with you”?

C.C.: I feel like your ones are too upbeat.

Lelouch and Luke

Luke: I always wanted to do something great with my life, and the Empire was the reason Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were killed, so I had to do something to stop them.

Lelouch: Hm.

Luke: What? Doesn’t that explain it?

Lelouch: Yeah, but...are you sure they’re dead?

Luke: Huh?

Lelouch: It’s just that I rebelled against an Empire to get revenge for my mother’s death, and she turned out to be fine. And evil. Do ghosts exist in your universe?

Luke: Now that you mention it...

Lelouch: You might want to prepare yourself for a shock.

Vader: I have attempted to kill my Emperor and have confronted an old friend from my days before my change, now an enemy.

Vader: Also I spent most of my time inside a robot.

Kallen: But she’s dead, right? What’s there to worry about?

Kallen: So you’re saying she’s either immortal, a ghost or a cyborg?

Kallen: Our luck just keeps improving, doesn’t it?

Lelouch: I really don’t know how to feel about this. Should I stop feeling guilty? Should I feel worse than before?

Suzaku: It’s okay, Lelouch. I forgive you.

Lelouch: You...what?

Suzaku: Everyone’s always fighting and betraying each other all the time. I’m tired of it. Let’s just all be friends, okay?

Kallen: But Suzaku, Euphemia wants to kill everyone!

Euphemia: It’s true, I do want to kill everyone.

Suzaku: So? Kill people, don’t kill people, it’s all fine. So long as we’re all friends, right? Come on, bring it in.

Kallen: He’s snapped...

Lelouch: ...SUZAKU’S RIGHT! Who cares who really killed all those Japanese! Let’s all just not to be so quick to pass judgement, right?

1. Milly - First To Die

Poor Milly. She really doesn’t deserve this fate, but the Horror Movie industry disagrees. Blonde, extroverted and perhaps the only character in the series who knows what sex is, she doesn’t stand a chance.

Rivalz: There’s a huge monster inside!

Milly: I bet you say that to all the girls!

Rivalz: ...

Lelouch: ...

Shirley: ...

Rivalz: Did you...make a dick joke?

Shirley: Milly...I’m so sorry...

Milly: What? Why? And what are you doing with your phone, Lelouch?

Lelouch: Calling an undertaker. It’s too late for a doctor.

2. Lelouch - The Smart One

Thank goodness for the smart one. If it weren’t for this guy, none of our protagonists would have made it this far. But, for shock value, he inevitably gets horribly murdered anyway.

Lelouch: And so, thanks to my magnificent plan working on all the established facts about this monster, it is now impossible for it to kill us!

Rivalz: I-It’s breaking through!

Lelouch: Wait, WHAT?!

Shirley: It must be evolving!

3. Nunnally - The Survivor

Even horror movies don’t have the spine to kill someone as pure as Nunnally. Even if she’s the only one who survives, defying all logic, she definitely will.

Kallen: O-oh my god...it killed...everyone.

Kallen: It was just too fast...and with this wound...I’m not going to last much longer either...

Nunnally: Oh no, that’s terrible!

Kallen: At least you’re safe, Nunnally.

Kallen: ...Actually, you don’t have a scratch on you. You’re blind and disabled, how is that even possible? 

Monster: Even I’m not that evil.

4. C.C. - The Witch

No surprises here. I feel her role as a horror movie witch might be somewhat underwhelming, however.

Suzaku: Shouldn’t you be trying to murder us or eat us or something?

C.C.: No. I’d rather just eat your pizza.

Suzaku: Alright then, then what’s to stop us from just chucking you out of the house?

C.C.: Your horrific flashbacks, obviously.

Suzaku: What horrific flashb - AAAAAARGGGHHH NO IT WASN’T MY FAULT

5. Mao - Leatherface

Is this just because of that time with the chainsaw? Yeah. Sorry Mao, but it always comes back down to that.

C.C.: Mao? You...killed all these people?

Mao: Yes, just as you asked! 

C.C.: I asked you to get rid of them...

Mao: Yes, yes, I caught your drift. “Get rid of them”, mhm? I got it, don’t worry.

Lelouch: Apparently Milly’s going to make everyone go in their swim gear. It’s kind of hard to look smart.

Lelouch: But I suppose the winner will be -

C.C.: Who?

Lelouch: ...Schneizel. [furious teeth grinding]

C.C.: Then who do you think will make Prom Queen?

Lelouch: Knowing Milly, she’s probably going to declare herself Prom Queen.

C.C.: True, but maybe Nunnally’s got a chance.

Lelouch: Well, of c-Wait, Nunnally’s going to the prom?

C.C.: So I hear. 

Lelouch: Does that mean she has a-

C.C.: Date, yes.

Lelouch: ...

C.C.: I was just asking you since I wasn’t sure if you’d let her go unsupervised, but if you’re willing to leave her to her own devices...

Shirley: Alright everyone, last question! The 97th Emperor of Britannia was called...

Kallen: No idea. Anya, this is where I’m relying on you!

Anya: [shrugs]

Kallen: Wait, what?! You’re Britannian! And a Knight of the Round!

Now, as it happens there is actually a Code Geass manga series called ‘Suzaku of the Counterattack’ which retells the original story (although with minor and major alterations) from Suzaku’s point of view. Since that’s already been done, in this case Suzaku is in Lelouch’s position, leading a Japanese rebellion under the mantle of Zero. What if Suzaku’s morality had developed more along the lines of Lelouch’s?

1. The Black Knights would have two kickass Knightmare pilots

Suzaku and Kallen are probably the best pilots in the series, who get the best knightmares in the series. So there’s an immediate advantage.

Tohdoh: Zero, is your scouting mission completed? Is it time to bring in our main forces?

Suzaku: Uh...yeah...we might not need to bother with that stage after all.

Tohdoh: ...I don’t unde-

Kallen: We killed all of them.

2. Suzaku would have Geass

Geass manifests differently in each of its users. In this list, I theorised that Suzaku would have a ‘Geass of Physical Enhancement’. So less brainwashing, more punching.

Suzaku: Now Schneizel...you will serve Zero.

Schneizel: No I won’t.

Suzaku: Do it or I’ll punch you really, really hard.

Schneizel: ...How hard?

Suzaku: Ever had a Knightmare fall on top of you?

Schneizel: I’m yours, Your Majesty.

3. He would rely heavily on his mysterious advisor, ‘Nought’

Just because Suzaku is the main character now, it doesn’t mean that Lelouch would give up on his goals. And ‘Zero’ had already been taken...

Lelouch: Those of you with power, fear us! Those of you without it, rally behind us as you see fit! We, the Black Knights, are the ones who will pass judgement on this world!

Black Knight #1: Booo

Black Knight #2: Get Zero on!

Suzaku: We’ll kick Britannia’s butt!

Black Knights: YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH

Lelouch: Hmph...second-in-command doesn’t really suit me.

4. Euphemia probably wouldn’t die...but she might

No mind control Geass means no tragic misfire. Hopefully. But Suzaku’s geass could misfire in other ways...

Suzaku: I JUST COULDN’T STOP SPIN KICKING

5. Inevitably he would find out ‘Nought’’s true identity and vice-versa

But the discovery wouldn’t be quite as dramatic as it was in the canon.

Lelouch: SUZAKU!

Suzaku: LELOUUUUCH!

Lelouch: What were the odds! No wonder we made such a good team!

Suzaku: Just like old times, huh?

6. The Black Knights wouldn’t betray him

Suzaku isn’t a Britannian prince, and he doesn’t have mindcontrolling powers. He’s a Japanese man who’s just very, very strong. Schneizel’s got nothing to dissuade them with.

Schneizel: But are you sure you can trust Zero? After all, I know his true identity. You might change your mind once you see...this.

Ohgi: Hah! That’s Zero? In a cat costume? That’s pretty cute, never knew he had that side to him!

Schneizel: ...No, it’s not cute, it’s humiliating, and you could never continue to follow such a dweeb.

Ohgi: ...Is that it?

Schneizel: The Britannian army has wonderful life insurance.

7. The Black Knights would win, but only in Japan

Now that we have established that Suzaku would be a much more popular leader than Lelouch due to general lack of deceit, it would seem he might actually outdo Lelouch, especially when he has Lelouch’s intelligence on his side anyway. But there is the whole “mind-control” aspect to Code Geass which is really very important, and is missing in this version. So through brute force the Black Knights could probably liberate Japan, but the Zero Requiem would never work without Geass, and Britannia would probably still remain strong outside of Japan.

Charles: And the Ragnarok Connection? Surely that would go through without the mind control Geass?

CGLG: Suzaku, with his super-strength, repeatedly spin-kicked the Sword of Akasha until it smashed into pieces.

For characters who thus far have only been single piloting knightmares, it couldn’t have been easy to co-pilot one for the first time. How might Lelouch and C.C. have learnt how to pilot the Gawain in sync?

Ohgi: [via intercom] Now listen, it wasn’t easy to get our hands on the instruction manual for this thing. We had to reinfilitrate the base you guys just broke out of to get it back.

Lelouch: [via intercom] Yes, Ohgi, you’ve already been commended for your efforts. 

Ohgi: All I mean is that...I don’t want our efforts to be in vain if you two break the Gawain on its first test run.

Lelouch: I-it’s not my fault! C.C. won’t listen to what I’m saying!

C.C.: I’m doing everything you ask. It’s not my fault you can’t make your mind up.

Kallen: Are you sure it wouldn’t be better if I was one of the co-pilots?

Lelouch: We need you to pilot the Guren, Kallen. Besides, C.C. is completely stubborn about piloting this thing.

Kallen: ...It wasn’t C.C. I was considering replacing.

Lelouch: WHAT?!

Tohdoh: With all due respect Zero, you’re a master strategist but when it comes to piloting you’re not exactly Marianne the Flash.

Lelouch: ...

Tohdoh: Zero, do you read me?

Lelouch: ...Ohgi, just give us the instructions.

Ohgi: Ahem. “To move left, move the joystick left.”

C.C.: What joystick?

Ohgi: Well, it’s on the instructions, so it has to be there. Have a look around.

C.C.: Fine then.

Lelouch: WAIT, C.C., ENABLE THE FLOTATION DEVICE BEFORE LEAVING YOUR PO-

[SPLASH]

Lelouch: ...

C.C.: ...

C.C.: There isn’t a joystick.

Lelouch: AAAAARRRGHHH

C.C.: How was I supposed to hear your instructions over the music?

Lelouch: Musi-you were listening to-

Tohdoh: Why is the E.U. spying on us anyway? If anything, we’re helping them.

Chiba: Apparently the Britannians employed very similar tactics there to Zero. Maybe they thought Zero was working with Britannia.

Tohdoh: What? That’s ridiculous! 

Lelouch: [sweats nervously]

Kallen: Nope. He’s been framed.

Inoue: Kallen, you of all people are defending Tamaki?

Kallen: It’s not that I’m defending him, it’s more that I refuse to believe Tamaki possesses more than two brain cells.

Ohgi: Well this does explain why he was trying to be Zero’s best friend the whole time. To get secret info.

Lelouch: ...Well, at least he wasn’t a very good spy.

Ohgi: ...Or maybe he was just playing the fool to escape our suspicion!

Part of this anon’s request was for them also to watch the New Year Ball drop, but by this list was already full up by the time I finished the resolutions. Let’s just say there was a period of elation followed by intense violence after the New Year’s Eve truce had ended.

Kallen: I need to take better care of the Guren. There have been way too close calls for a machine that powerful.

Lloyd: To outdo Rakshata!

Cecile: Or maybe to become decent to your fellow human beings?

Cecile: I resolve to make Lloyd be decent to his fellow human beings.

Tamaki: I’m going to kill the Emperor myself!

Ohgi: And I’m going to rein in Tamaki’s stupidity.

Kallen: Ohgi, these things are meant to be realistic.

Villetta: I aim to work out exactly what I want out of my relationship with Ohgi. Dead Ohgi or living Ohgi. 

Suzaku: To be a better Zero than Lelouch was. 

Gino: I’m going to find a way to make Suzaku laugh!

Cornelia: To clear Euphie’s name, at all costs.

Guilford: To protect and serve Her Highness...and to buy some new glasses. I keep confusing Her Highness with Zero - it’s gotten very problematic.

Euphemia: To get Lelouch and Nunnally back into the family!

Lelouch: Well, it did happen...just in a very, very roundabout way.

C.C.: Being enigmatic is a lot of fun, but it does slow down the teamwork process quite a bit. So I will stop being so mysterious...perhaps.

Shirley: To, uh, keep my distance from anyone with glowing eyes. Except Lelouch. But he’s surrounded by people with glowing ey- it’s hard, ok?

Milly: To cause chaos on the Ashford campus, even in absentia!

Rivalz: To, uh, tell a, uh, certain someone just how I, uh, feel.

Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for sticking with me this long! This list will only be dealing with Lelouch, Suzaku, C.C. and Kallen - much as I would have loved to have included everyone, it would have lasted a very long time...maybe they can get their time in the spotlight next year. Sorry for its brevity, I just have to spend a lot of time doing Christmassy things!

Suzaku: An arrest warrant.

C.C.: Some crucial piece of information about his Geass I haven’t told him yet.

Kallen: A new Zero costume. He won’t admit it, but he misses its spandex confines.

For Suzaku

Lelouch: A Black Knight outfit. If our style can’t convince him, nothing can.

C.C.: Whenever I see Suzaku, he always asks me a great deal of questions. So I bought him a Magic 8 Ball.

Kallen: I’m going to give him a fist to his face. And a tangerine.

For C.C.

Lelouch: Enough pizza to occupy herself with for a lifetime so she won’t get bored and decide to, say, wander about my school in broad daylight, or get herself trapped in a tomato truck.

Suzaku: I’m going to get her a literal shield in case my message hasn’t sunk in yet.

Kallen: After spending all that time trying to relocate Lelouch, I think I might save us both any future trouble and just get her a tracker to put on him. She does follow him around everywhere, and we don’t want an immortal lost in the middle of Tokyo...like last Christmas. [shudders]
