Recently watched ATLA for the first time, and God I love Kataang so much, they're literally perfect for each other.
I've been nose-deep in the tumblr tags and fandom spaces in other apps for a while now, and I came across a reel about how Aang and Katara symbolize the theme of Balance as shown in the show (which I would link if I could remember the creater) so this is basically me deep-diving into it.
In the series, the theme of balance is depicted by two koi fishes who are the spirits of moon and ocean in the human world.
"Tui and La, the moon and the ocean, have always circled eachother in an eternal dance. They balance eachother. Push and Pull. Life and Death. Yin and Yang."
The moon gives the ocean life. The ocean gives moon a purpose. Without the moon, the ocean will remain stagnant water without life. Without the ocean, the moon has no purpose.
And like, both the ocean and moon spirits have elements of eachother in them, right? That's the whole concept of yin and yang.
Katara gave Aang life by freeing him from the ice berg. He was basically reborn that day. Not to mention her literally bringing him back to life after he died. Aang also gave Katara life by giving her hope in a war torn world where everything was lost. They were each other's moon.
Aang gave Katara a purpose, to learn water bending in the northern water tribe and an opportunity to help people — something she'd always wanted to do. Katara gave Aang a purpose to learn other elements and end the war, complete his Avatar duties. They were each other’s ocean too.
What I'm saying is, they're each other's Tui and La. They're balance. They are soulmates because of how different and yet similar they are and how well they compliment eachother.
Katara pulls him back whenever Aang pushes too much and lets emotions take over him. Like that episode when Appa got stolen. Aang does the same to her when Katara pushes too much, like the Southern Raiders Episode (it's still surprising to me how misunderstood that episode is, but that's for another post).
TLDR: Kataang are made for each other and I love them very much <3
