This is my piece for the #RainCodeMinibang2025 event, hosted by SnivyΒ (@snivyartjpeg)! Thank you so much for organizing it so well and having me!
I also want to say a big thank you to @linferry and @Pudding Milk for their beautiful accompanying illustrations- both of them are so talented and amazing!! (/β§β½β¦)/\(β§β½β¦\) So, be sure to check out their art and send them lots of love!!!
To preserve some mysteries in my piece (O:)), I am just going to post my comments about it under spoilers below (if anyone who has finished reading and wants to know more):

First of, let's say half the reason I created this piece was because I love mysteries and fairytales! It was so much fun finding fairytale parallels for each character, and sneaking in little details between lines to hint at these comparisons with a Rain Code spin! I could probably ramble on and on about the backgrounds/ shenanigans of their fairytale versions, but I won't do that here because that would be WAY too long x'D
The other half of the reason was because of Rain Code's epilogue. Before everyone left Kanai Ward, they each addressed/ thanked the Chief- but he was not there in person to hear it⦠:') So if he had met the others long before the letter, would things turned out differently? Would he still have gone through with his revenge, driven by his love for his wife? Could it be resolved through other means in this AU? What kind of ending would they have in this fairytale? I will leave that decision in your hands.
After writing this fic in a fairytale prose style, I also realized I can play around with the narrator to be more immersive... and then a certain someone (O:)) took over because he is just too powerful and all-knowing x'D Again, there is more background/ settings in this AU, but I can't fit that in or I'll risk going overboard π π I have also considered making a choose-your-own-journey-style sequel, but it's a lot of work (6 character routes...?) So, we shall see if I ever feel up to making it happen one day...
Anyway, in short: It was super fun for me to experiment and play around with this piece! I sincerely hope it was just as interesting for you to read and imagine!! :)

Yeah, I should REALLY get my ass on writing, but I REALLY want to try painting an intimidating (but mysterifully captivating) Shinigami for halloween ^^; After all, she is a death god! Though she is kind, teasing, needy, adorable and puffy, it's kinda in her job title to be terrifying too...!!

And here are some doodles for Yuma and Makoto~ Their post-canon relationship/ interactions is fun to explore too!
I headcanon that Yuma remains his expressive self most of the time post-canon, unless it is some serious or negative situations such that his stoic self (read: No. 1) kicks in (as a protective mechanism, kinda). And Yuma being Yuma, he likes to visit Makoto (his son! ;P) just to make sure he isn't doing anything stupid or drastic to himself. (Tho tbf, this trouble magnet isn't doing that great in that regard either LOL)
I also think Makoto will not act overly cheery as in canon once he takes his mask off. He always strikes me as the type of person who is mocking/ playful in front of his enemy/ opponent (ex majority of raincode), but sincere/ genuine in front of those he cares about (ex toward Kanai Ward citizens near epilogue). He would probably be more deadpan and blunt only in front of Yuma, because they literally have seen each other's worst and they know each other best. There is no point in hiding his true feelings, so he can just be himself 100%. (Why does he have to BE nice to his original anyway? :V)
So, I'd like to imagine them having a close (maybe brotherly) relationship! They fight over silly stuff, tease each other, or sometimes just tolerate each other's presence. They may not agree with each other from time to time, but if you hurt one of them? Or somehow did something to piss off BOTH of them at the same time?
Sometime near end of summer, I thought it would be interesting to compare No. 1 and Yuma's expressions side to side. So I have finally scanned it and here you go~
