Gal History!!🎀🌺: Do you know the OG “gyaru”?

The original gals or predecessors is Bodikon/Odachidai🪩🪭

The bodikon gals have played a HUGE part in leading gyaru to where it is today★

It was most popular during the mid 1980’s and 1940’s

Also another group was looking quite similar at this time as-well…

YANKII!!(Reference to my yangyaru post)

After a long day of work OL(office ladies) just wanted to let loose and be able to be themselves after being trapped in a office for hours they were considered a “different species”

Japan had an “economic BOOM” stock market was thriving so was their economy they called it “The Bubble Economy” which caused an increase in spending stores all throughout Shibuya was selling bodikon(body conscious) clothes in bright neon colors

You can see bodikon influence all throughout gal teenagers started to see the classy looking nightlife and wanted to participate too and started dressing the same this eventually led to the start of kogal

These clubs became places for highschool kids to have fun both Kogals and Bodikon kogals were very known for sneaking into clubs

Kyabajo also shows a lot of influence(which I’ve also made a post about) Kyabajo includes body conscious dresses and fans Bodikon also included body conscious dresses and feathered fans(Juli fans) and both have/had heavy eurobeat and trance culture with girls preforming on stages and/or dancing what’s commonly known as “parapara” people were traveling from all over Japan just to get a feel of the nightlife atmosphere!

(WARNING: 18+ CONTENT) Some Bodikon women were also involved in AV🔞(adult video) culture which is still a quite common part of gyaru today!

Gyaru EDU lesson #2: Getting started in the gal world!!🌏🎀

★Intro:

Okay so before i even start to start gal isn’t hard but it WILL be if your heart isn’t in it you HAVE to be willing to stand out, need to be able to take criticism, and definitely HAVEE to be willing to do research(using RELIABLE sources) I’ve been a gal for going on 4 years now so I’m giving EVERYTHING I know(which is concerningly a lot😭)

★Make(makeup):

For gyaru makeup PRACTICE. MAKES. PERFECT. also yes I have to say it if you are a beginner and choose to do a droop please trust me. DONT PUT WHITE IN THE DROOP I made the same mistake beginning and i STILL cringe at it but that’s why practicing and experimenting is crucial.

Here are some examples!(colored contacts are not required but it does help with how your make looks don’t worry I don’t use them there are a lot who don’t)

★Co*de(outfit):

A lot of people over complicate this part no you don’t need a specific style also you can wear close to ANYTHING and as long as you have on makeup and styled hair it’ll still read as gal

Now finding clothes is something that’ll take searching because availability is different for everyone the best advice I can give is find some outfits that you like and go to stores and search for pieces that kinda resemble the clothes in the pictures(once you get experience you can branch out more)

Now some examples!

★Lifestyle:

Please don’t think you need to be a crazy party girl to be gal look as a person with AUDHD yes there are things that are just too much for you and that’s fine sometimes I get so depressed I can’t even get up to do my make and that is okay! The slogan is “get wild & be sexy” but as long as you are authentically yourself no matter what you are just as gal as anyone else!♡

Honestly the yankii(delinquent) and gyaru lifestyle are like siblings but this represents both styles or ex yankii who turned into gyaru(but DONT be confused they are NOT the same thing)

I understand how they can be confused but I know how to make it more simple!!

Ora Ora⛓️🚬

Ora Ora is heavily inspired by the Yankii(delinquent) and bosozoku(biker) lifestyle and as well as the yakuza they are seen as “bad girls” or like gang members(THIS DOES NOT CONNECT YOU TO ACTUAL GANGS)

Elements:

Heavy usage of tracksuits, caps, hoodies, and sports jerseys(all in black or dark colors)

Less likely to tan

Intense darker makeup(heavy eyeliner)

A “tough” or aggressive look

Yakuza inspired tattoos and/or piercings

Half-shaven hair or buzz cut(reds, blonde, and silver)

Ane👜🖤

While both Ora Ora and ane are closely related to onii-gyaru(older sister gal) Ane is the more mature non gang member version of Ora Ora and is more of a rock listening cooler older sister kind of vibe

Elements:

Skirts and form-fitting clothes

Long straight or lightly curled hair(natural colors)

Piercings and sometimes tattoos

Ripped jeans, leather, studs, and skulls

Rokku🎸🏴‍☠️

Rokku is inspired by punk-rock fashion and V-kei gives a band member kind of vibe

Elements:

Pale skin

Commonly seen with big teased hair(can be any color)

Leopard or zebra print

Crosses, fishnets, band tees, studs, skulls, mini skirts, and shredded knitwear

Big boots or heels

Black, red, grey, and white are common but other dark colors can be used aswell

Distressed denim and heavy usage of chains

Dramatic makeup
