Elena watched him shake her empty bottle with a smile as she sipped from her new one. Beer was good. But she was really wishing she had just ordered a couple shots of tequila. It had been a couple days since she ran out at home and if she was going to survive going back to school she was going to need something stronger than beer. “Both,” she murmured with a grin. “Never could accept a compliment, could you, Stefan?” Elena smiled again and raised her bottle towards Stefan before tipping back another swallow. “You have exceptional taste.” She set her beer bottle down on the counter and toyed with the coster, running her fingertips of the bumps and edges. She didn’t used to go to bars every night. Not that she never went before, but it was usually a weekend thing. Special occasions. Fun with friends. Alcohol hadn’t ever been something she used to run away. Until her parents died. And to think she used to spend hours lecturing Jeremy about the dangers of drug use. Who the hell was she to talk? “Every night. Richie and I go back.” She winked at the bartender and took another sip from her beer as she glanced at the screen. “Well, that, and the ‘I-have-cleavage-and-you-don’t’ perk.” Elena glanced at him and grinned before turning her attention back to the game. Her grin slipped from her lips as soon as he mentioned Katherine. She was everywhere. Even here. Sometimes Elena felt like getting in her car and driving until know one knew Katherine’s name. Where no one knew her name. She just had to keep reminding herself she had one and half more years of high school and then she was out of here. “Twin sister,” she repeated as she wrinkled her nose. “My evil twin sister who keeps screwing everything up for me.” Elena tipped her bottle towards Stefan. “Merry Christmas to me.” 

He caught the quick grimace in her eyes. Just then and there, Stefan could tell that Elena’s reunion with Katherine obviously hadn’t been a happy one. “Evil?” He prompted. “Do tell.” The game went on it’s commercial break, and would return into the 6th inning. Still a way to go, and he figured there was no harm in actually catching up beyond the tipsy small talk.

So much for her discreet plans to get in and out before anyone spotted her. On the plus side? It was only Stefan. He could keep a secret. Not that it mattered because she wasn’t there for herself. Although, it didn’t make much sense for him to be there. “More like the world has shifted on it’s axis. Is there something you wanna tell me?” She questioned him skeptically, as her gaze settled on the Planned Parenthood sign.

  Stefan half-turned to face the sign her gaze had pointed to. Though misconstrued, the context of it all had just hit him. He was here on a guild job. A small, low-paying assignment that required nothing more than a little gathered information. In a nutshell? Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap. When he’d come in here to find the targeted subject, it hadn’t actually occurred to him how he looked walking into Planned Parenthood. “Oh, wow ... yeah.” He reverted back to Blair. “So, the good news is, I’m not here planning parenthood.” Stefan raised his eyes with a smartass tone of voice.  “The not-so-good news—” He gave her a pointed look, gesturing that was her cue to share.

“Oh he’s got jokes.” he said with a smirk, leaning back on the nearby wall in order to watch Stefan work on his car. “I’m good to just watch you do your macho car stuff.” he said, motioning with his hand before crossing his arms. Lee would be lying if he said that he didn’t feel a thrumming of anticipation under his skin. “A picture?” he said with a throaty laugh. “Aw Stef, do you need me to draw a diagram?” he teased his friend with a grin.

When Lee joked about offering a diagram, he smiled with a foreshadow of mockery.  “I’m just surprised when you’ll offer to do anything for anyone, ever. Slow down there, Santa.”

Lexi had to admit he had a fair point. Typically she wouldn’t be caught dead at an event such as this. She’d been against them for as long as she’d known Stefan, and she couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on her lips at his memory. “How do you know I’m not here just to protest, hmm?” She raised an eyebrow, folding her arms in bemusement. “Besides, I thought it was high time I checked in on you. I shouldn’t be surprised to find you here. Still hanging around the old playing fields huh?” Lexi knew Stefan had come to be able to take care of himself, but that didn’t stop her from growing a bit nervous when she went days without his presence. Yet somehow, she always knew where she’d find him. It was like she could sense him. Even when he was far out of reach.

  He laughed to himself, in satisfaction at the way she denied the fact she was probably going to enjoy herself while here. Sure, values were always important to stick to, but a night out with friends counted for a fair trade-up. It had only been 5 days since he’d last seen on their Vegas trip, but he understood how unlike them it was to go that long without even a text in-between. “Yeah-” He admitted with some, suppressed embarrassment. “It feels pretty weird, actually.”  He was supposed to be here, it’s what he’d planned on long before even graduating senior year. Stefan had no regrets on the choices he’d made, but it couldn’t stop the demerit of guilt lying on his conscience. “But, at least I’ve got Lee here. Less shame in slumming-it with another person.” He joked. Blair had invited him and Lee, having known that they still had a couple friends and what not from when they attended. Lee was still notoriously known for being the dealer with a shit ton of drugs, explaining why he was off, dealing his supply somewhere around campus. They began walking to walk from where they stood, aimless without direction to where it was, they were walking towards. “Oh yeah, how’s the whole ‘new roommate’ thing? She’s still there?”

Lexi stood across from him, a smirk playing on her lips as she awaited his gaze to meet hers. When it finally did, her smirk slipped at his reaction. Scoffing, she unfolded her arms, taking a step forward. “Oh, i’m sorry––is that how you greet your best friend, nowadays? Or do I have the wrong Salvatore in my midsts?”

 “Hey, I’m just sayin’ ...” Stefan finally reached his friend, extending either arm to their surroundings. It was a bonfire rally, hosted by the College he no longer went to. Though neither of the two were actual students,this wasn’t the surprising part. It was the fact she was supporting the stunning display of a near, three-story high fire. “Never thought I’d see the day, where you’d actually enjoy one of these things — without the protest.” Stefan looked to her with a widening grin. “It’s a big deal.” In between the pause, he couldn’t refrain from laughing.
