Barcola isn’t impressing me on the left wing at all. I would either put Mateta up front and push Mbappe out wide or put Cherki behind Mbappe and push Olise out to the left; either way, Barcola needs to come out. The play is dying when they go down the left so they’ve been repeatedly going down the right with Dembele, but Paraguay is ready for that with the double team. It’s reducing France to play that is very predictable and manageable. Paraguay was disciplined defensively, but not so great that France has only been able to put one shot on target in 45 minutes. I think they’re beating themselves, honestly.

The French team needs to play against more teams from Central and South America I think. Clearly the players are not accustomed to the mind games they play with their fouling and aggression. If you know CONCACAF and Conmebol, this isn’t new. 😂
