Dr. Gladys West. 1930 to 2026.

Born on a Virginia farm during the Jim Crow era, Dr West became one of only four Black employees at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in 1956 and the second Black woman ever hired there.

The mathematician's calculations quietly became the backbone of GPS technology used by billions of people every single day. The world has navigated by her work for decades before it learned her name. That's the kind of legacy that doesn't need a spotlight to be real. It just is.

We honor Dr. West and the long line of Black women who built the future while the world looked the other way🤎

Additional information: State lawmakers have been gunning for Pearson and Jones nearly their entire terms. Most notably, in 2023, the House expelled them for participating in a protest at the Capitol. Their districts had to have special elections to have them reinstated.

Pearson is one of the plaintiffs of a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the redistricting.

i'm not really seeing anyone on here talking about it unfortunately, but a 19 year old trans woman was recently (may 10th 2026) stabbed to death in seattle. she has not been publicly identified by name yet.

the university of washington is inviting a detransitioner from TPUSA (chloe cole) to speak at an event barely even days after this young woman was murdered on campus. walk-outs and protests are planned.
