I’m a sniper duo (Hayami + Chiba) enthusiast and shipper, I like the 3-E dynamic as a class, accidentally started liking Kayano / Akari, and sometimes I latch onto non-canon dynamics like Kayano-Itona and Kimura-Okano.
I started this blog when I was like, 13, so a lot of my opinions here (especially the older ones) are outdated and I don’t agree with them anymore lol. Same with my fanfics.

your preference towards her pre-reveal persona being a purposeful forgetful character is clear haha but on that same note, how much do you think it was true? also, how do you think the teachers (esp as trained professionals) think of her after it? peace and love i just don't have any friends who like assassination classroom to talk to </3
Hehe hi! Thanks for the ask! I love Kayano so the reply will be a bit of a long one... so I'll hide the reply under the "keep reading" tab.
I remember when I first watched the series, I was both confused and annoyed that Kayano was advertised/put as part of the main cast when she didn't quite do much, and I didn't think her presence so far justified her position in the main trio. I thought that she was one of the token "love interest" characters (that were otherwise useless and bland), which was such a shame. (I never disliked her because of any ships or such, I actually thought the main trio would be a cute ot3!)
And then.. the reveal! I fell in love with her. I thought her pre-reveal persona was kind of smart and showed that Akari was such a good actress. The choice to adopt an unassuming personality also helped her fly under the radar. It blindsided the audience (read: me, the clown) as well.
One of the main issue I had with it was how it seemed like a shock factor plot twist. Like, the premise was clearly set up and it's quite an intricate plot, but it's a shame to the plot that there weren't many "hints" to catch. (Maybe there were, and I'm just unobservant).
(I know there are some panels in the manga or something like that, but I think that the manga and the anime should be treated as distinct works of art, ie. they should both stand independently. I shouldn't need to cross-reference the media to be able to understand the other.)
How much do I think that her pre-persona personality was true? A lot, I think. Considering that it was a year-long acting stint without a break in between, it would be a lot easier to act close to, well, how you really are. The most natural lies are the one closest to truth! Besides, given that she spent so long in the role, I think by the end of the year, she would have ingrained some part of it in herself anyways. It's like, fake it to you make it.
The class' reactions was pretty underwhelming and disappointing. I think there was a popular string of posts about the Kayano Civil War that explains it a lot better than me. I think that the class realistically been a lot more hurt by her betrayal. (I can't find the post to the Kayano Civil War now, sorry.)
(I think that ^ whole thing was a consistent writing choice through the show. Assclass is a relatively short anime that crams a lot of content into a small amount of episodes, and most events that happen wrap up pretty concisely within the few episodes it spans and doesn't show much repercussions afterwards in later episodes. It seems like Assclass was just trying to throw many different problems at us, but doesn't really want to drag them out for too long, so they wrap each issue up with "and everyone was fine at the end :)" The class seems relatively unfazed for each problem they trip over, like Takaoka or almost being drowned or almost being poisoned and killed or the Reaper incident with Irina's betrayal or Nagisa's mother or- you get it. I'm not sure what I can say for this, because on one hand it's an anime for kids and it was quite short, but on another I don't believe that a show should focus on murder and such heavy topics without being able to handle it with the appropriate weight. I digress.)
How will the teachers react?
This is such a fun question! I think Koro-sensei would be both parts hurt and disappointed/angry at himself, because he's the world-class top assassin. There's probably a level of pride he carries on being able to read people and handle problems. Given that Kayano was so close to Aguri, I think he would be extremely disappointed in himself that he failed to figure it out and help Kayano enough.
On a similar vein, Irina would be second-guessing her own espionage abilities. I imagine she might show some interest in acting classes or maybe speak to Kayano a bit more to understand her. I don't imagine her taking it badly - moreover I think she'll be impressed.
Karasuma! He's funny. I think he would, firstly, second-guess all the background checks (I hope) had been done when they were looking into 3-E. He seemed just as surprised with the whole reveal, which means his superiors were keeping the whole Government Experiment thing from him, which... is incredibly unethical, to another point. If you think about it, if he was told from the get-go, they might be able to prepare for some eventualities like looking out for Yanagisawa and potential revenge plots, looking for a good setting to tell the kids about the whole thing instead of the whole surprise sprung on them, et cetera. He'd probably be pissed and cynical, and he wants to get Kayano some therapy. They all need therapy.

Haha I can't recall a single bit of typing the above - was that even me? My love for Akari Yukimura | Kayano Kaede is still present, but in the past 5 years as I've revisited Assclass several times, I've had more thoughts on her:
Akari's choice to adopt the name Kayano after the reveal of her deception (hospital scene wherein she requests to be called Kayano), I now interpret as a strategic choice to remain endeared to 3E/encourage them to avoid thinking of who Akari Yukimura is. "I now feel like I belong in this class! (not verbatim)" A very heartwarming sentiment and generally can be interpreted as sincere since she shows up to class events a decade later, where she could have disappeared if she wanted to.
However in the timeskip episode she's still being addressed by Kayano? Is this a nod to her "true name/self" never being accepted by 3-E and how she still plays the Kayano role around them to this day? Or are we implying that "Akari Yukimura" is not who Kayano prefers to be and she can be her truest self with 3-E? Either way, she loses a part of her identity.
I believe the choice to call her Kayano in the timeskip is for the audience's comfort (3-E the in-text audience to her grand performance) (and also we the 4th wall audience who have known her as Kayano for 90% of the show). It's intentionally or incidentally mirroring Nagisa's gender presentation issues (which is simultaneously portrayed as the source of Nagisa's trauma and also played for gags even after the reveal of his mother's abuse.) The both of them conceal themselves to remain palatable to their observers. We the audience and 3-E are allowed to witness but never dwell on the weight of their never-ending masking, because the show is quickly rushing us along on jokes about Nagisa crossdressing to keep us laughing.
Of course the narrative pacing is very likely just a genre age-range consideration (can't unpack /too/ much trauma or we might be a seinen) and also not the main point of Assclass, which is a short anime and just can't talk about everything (it succeeds in its central themeing and everything else such as this topic invites fandom participation). But the two's portrayal is also cool meta-commentary on how we the audience is also complicit in the concealment that Kayano and Nagisa have to continue with, in order to keep the show running. We watch their respective arcs and we catch a glimpse of their hurt true selves within, and then have them resume their previous act without opportunity for change - a lovely never-ending performance for call-back jokes and preservation of continuity.
But hey - congrats to Nagisa for getting his hair cut 7 years later. That was a real show-stopper, I bet. Too bad he wasn't allowed to grow and still kept a feminine figure - not too much change! We still like him for who he always was.

I also didn't like that they made zero changes in the Itona debut ep, so I drew him lurking by the window since he wasn't truly part of Class E yet by that point 🐸
I don't care that it's a novel exclusive thing. Puey should've stayed in Japan for the rest of the school year and be a permanent member of 3E, so this is me warping reality 😭
The image quality from the official assclass twitter account DROPPED ever since Kimura was added in the ending credits. So please don't mind if some of the kids are more pixelated than the others. I was stacking them one by one per episode release 😔
Hara was heavily pixelated and was behind Yukiko in the original artwork. So to save myself from the trouble, I just completely drew her over and added the rest of her body that was being blocked.

Both are absolute beasts at assassinations (our girl hayami got like the second most kills in the red v blue fight afterall), so i find it sweet that deep down they are just these awkward kids. I also think I read a fact about how they tried to go on dates but it ended up being awkward due to their lack of conversation skills lmao I do think that theyd be the type of friends who promise that if they're still single by 40, they they'll get married anyways

“No I’m thinking about how when Hayami speaks in class, it’s usually a sassy oneliner or related to work, and it’s noted that she talks more around Chiba (which is still related to work). While Chiba also talks more around Hayami, he definitely has more lines and is shown to interact more with his peers, and he seems to speak for him and Hayami whenever they’re together. In a sense Hayami is Chiba’s quieter shadow. They’re both technically capable in their different ways, but Chiba is obviously better at socialisation. So Hayami finds solace at being around Chiba. Unfortunately her gag in the KoroQ manga is that when Chiba is blind, he doesn’t recognise her at all and he frequently mistakes others for her. Chiba, the more sociable guy whom she’s a pair with, the one she shares the most screentime with, doesn’t recognise her (as a joke). Think about that.”
fandom will see a female character with the most interesting backstory and inner turmoil in the entire media and be like “…anyways. where’s the closest man we can pretend has the exact problems she has”

... This may be new but I have a soft spot for Nagikae. I don’t super ship it, I actually don’t want it to be canon, but I just have a soft spot. Which is funny because I used to think Nagikae was bullshit. Imagine liking a guy because he kissed you just to save your life? Lmao Kayano get a grip.
But the more I think about it, the more Kayano’s crush makes sense. She grew up in a place where everyone was fake and manipulative (the acting industry), her sister died, her brother in law was an asshole. What happiness she had was taken away. Also let’s assume her parents suck because she changed her name? Dyed her hair? And they didn’t give a shit? She spent a year in physical and mental pain, harbouring her revenge while mourning her sister WHILE pretending to love Koro and pretending to be sweet and weak. She then manipulated this boy, used him as her “best friend”, and used his bloodlust to hide hers. This boy is a capable assassin, by the way.
And then Kayano shows up to destroy everything. And then this capable assassin that she used as a pawn for the past eight months just kissed her.
It’s not... even romantic. He could’ve shot her, clap stunned her, done something else. Nagisa actively chose a method that didn’t harm Kayano. So he still cared a lot despite Kayano using him and the class blah blah blah. Heck, he even put himself in danger to save her.
So the sentiment is really strong, and stronger than the kiss. And idk about you, but if I was Kayano I would straight up fall for Nagisa. Since he cared despite everything. His care for her was genuine unlike Yanagisawa/ the people she used to know in the acting industry.
I think Nagisa is good for Kayano, but the reason why I don’t super ship it is because I don’t really know if Kayano is good for Nagisa. I certainly think Nagisa and Akari (given she never tried the manipulating stuff) would make a power couple, but Nagikae? Hmm.
