[10:53PM] Jisung stares at you from his spot behind the counter, hand wiping the porcelain mugs dry with an absent mind as he watches over you with worry.
"What's wrong?" he hears Jaemin ask from beside him, the older looking up from the sink to address Jisung.
"It's just..." the younger hesitates, "that customer over there has been sitting alone for an hour now and hasn't ordered anything."
"Maybe they just want to relax," Jaemin sighs, not sure on where Jisung is going with this.
"No, I think it was supposed to be a date or something... Maybe meeting up with a friend," he mumbles, chewing on his lip.
"It isn't our business," Jaemin murmurs, drying hands on his apron before pulling the whole thing off, trading it for his coat. "You have to close now anyway so they're going home in max five seconds."
Jaemin pats his back and walks into the staff room, taking the last of his belongings and leaving the cafe with a final goodnight call.
Left to close the store alone, Jisung turns off all but one of the display lights, leaving only the wall fixtures to illuminate the final patrons, who thank the barista with gentle smiles and a gracious tip.
With only your brooding figure left, Jisung shuffles over to your table, clearing his throat as soon as you begin to put your jacket on. You reply without even looking up at him, "I'm sorry for staying so late. I'll leave you a tip since I didn't buy anything."
"That's alright," he takes a deep breath for courage, "I was actually going ask if you wanted a bit to eat? And if you were... Um- alright?"
The look of shock you direct at Jisung makes his chest constrict nervously, your hands slowing down as you consider his offer. "You guys close in," you check the clock behind you, "two minutes. No?"
"We do but I'm closing today so it's completely fine. Doesn't hurt anyone but us," he reassures, already walking behind the bar to slice up a share of cake.
You fold your hands in your lap when he approaches again, this time with a treat and two forks. "Thank you so much. I honestly don't think I'm ready to go home just yet."
"Why's that?" he mutters hesitantly, unsure if the topic is one you want to discuss.
"My roommate," you sigh around a mouthful of cake, "she's expecting me to come home and gush about this date she set up for me today except I have nothing to gush about."
"No show?" Jisung giggles, hoping the mood would lighten up with his small comment.
Thankfully, you play along, "ding ding ding." The melodic tapping of your fork against the plate creates a gentle ring that dances around Jisung's ears.
Taking the plate with a disappointed shake of his head, he goes to quickly wash up your dishes and scurries around the staff room. With all his belongings in hand, he walks out to see you waiting for him by the front entrance, a shy smile playing on your lips as he goes to flip the final light switch.
"I just want to thank you again," you mumble, rolling the balls of your feet against the pavement as Jisung locks up shop.
"It wasn't anything. As long as you're feeling better now?" You confirm his statement with a firm nod of your head, allowing him to continue speaking.
"You can thank me properly by coming in tomorrow and actually paying full price," he grins, tucking the keys into his back pocket.
You scoff playfully with a roll of your eyes in reaction, the boy snickering at his own joke too. Silence envelopes the two of you and you bite down on your lip, unsure how to say goodbye to the kind boy.
"I'll see you tomorrow," he says for you, strayching the back of his neck awkwardly.
You nod with a delicate smile, turning around and listening to Jisung's footsteps get further and further away. Your own feet walk slowly, a dopey feeling taking over the way you step simply because you can't stop thinking about the unnamed barista that treated you to free cake a moment ago.
