cloudControl - The European PaaS

As the resident hyper-extrovert and marketing gal, it feels a bit weird sometimes that most of my work is done at my desk. (Although it totally makes sense, because computers). But it had been bugging me for a while that in our home city of Berlin, I hadn’t gotten out much to really meet developers and see the coding side of the startup scene.

The first Monday of every month at cloudControl is something we affectionately refer to as “Was ist dein Problem-Montag”, or in English, “What’s Your Problem Monday”. It’s one day a month dedicated to pet projects, nice-to-haves, and peculiar pain points. The rules are simple: you have to finish your project by the end of the day, and you have to be able to convince at least one other person that it’s a good idea. The result? Lots of stuff shipped and tighter teamwork.

We’re happy to announce that we’re cutting the price on our MySQLd and PostgreSQLd Add-on plans, effective as of April, 1st, 2014. The price drop is a consequence to recent price drops by Amazon Web Services. All plans except “micro” are affected. If you subscribe to any of the plans ranging from “small” to “4x Large HM”, your monthly invoice will be lower, starting from the invoice for April 2014.

Java is one of the most popular languages used by developers on the cloudControl platform. Buildpacks are at the core of the cloudControl platform and they allow a PaaS like cloudControl to support various different runtimes.

Today, we are happy to announce official support for several new buildpacks for the Java JVM: Clojure, Gradle, Grails, Scala, and Play! This post goes over some of the core features of these buildpacks and provides you with insight on how to get started.
