By the time you get the dateviators, bet that sweetheart of a shower would be absolutely vibrating to hold you while singing, β you have been unknowingly using him as a source of comfort after all β but way too polite to just pounce.
Ever since getting the dateviators, the player has been very hesitant to show strong emotion. With the feeling of being watched, and judged. Theyβve been very quiet. No laughing hard at a meme, no getting mad at a tv show, and certainly no crying or getting upset. And the objects around the house start to miss the sounds of the player just living.
Soon one day the stress of trying to keep the dateviators a secret, doing all the quests, not being able to leave the house and their job catches up to them. And they just cry.
Maybe they sit next to a dateable having a small conversation with them, (Maybe the player has a panic attack, about all the stress theyβre under) then boom the wave of stress just crashes on them. And the dateable is shocked at first, because this is probably the first time theyβve seen the player cry since the dateviators. Then they comfort the player, saying maybe they should take a break. And they miss their emotions, their laugh. Everything.

You're much more content spending your time with Kaede and Shuichi in the pianistβs lab, or with Tojo, helping her as she takes care of things around the Academy, or with Gokuhara as he searches the grounds within the dome for any elusive bugs. Unfortunately, it would seem the last of those activities has left you open for scrutiny under the eyes of one five-foot-one brat.
Outside with the entomologist, you can recognize some of the sparse wildflowers; dig back in your mind and find the symbolism assigned to them by a few cultures over the eras. The most you can offer past that is a comment on how the dome keeping you on Academy grounds doesnβt let the weather from outside in, so there must be some artificial way of keeping the flora on the grounds alive. Itβs nothing your fellow students couldnβt have come up with on their own, and if youβd said it to anyone else, youβd probably be met with an exasperated reply at best, but Gokuhara is as genuine as ever as he nods and begins to ponder aloud which bugs could survive without natural weather patterns and precipitation. He hasnβt found any of those hypothetical bugs after a few days of searching, mind you, but you certainly donβt mind hearing about his interests.Β
You havenβt met anyone like him before, but itβs been weeks and he doesnβt seem to be faking any aspects of his personality. So, finding yourself without any memory of a talent that would give you a clear indication of how to spend your abundant free time at the Academy, you make your way outside most mornings to meet with your friend.Β
It quickly became apparent upon your arrival that Gonta was one of the few among you with the discipline to quickly settle into a routine, and despite prompting from Chabashira, Momota, and even Shinguji, youβre rarely in the mood to rise at a decent, consistent time each day.Β
Once some time has passed and the sun has climbed high enough to make you cringe at the thought of wearing a suit in the heat (even a well-fitting one that nicely compliments the color of a certain someoneβs sharp, red eyes), you wish Gokuhara well and excuse yourself to your other pastime that you prefer only slightly less to following him around.
The air conditioning in the casino is welcome after trying to keep up with Gokuhara for a few hours, and the sounds of the machines distracts you from the world outside.Β
The only time during your confinement at the Academy that Ouma Kokichi had truly managed to frighten you was when you had been so captivated with your round of Salmon Fishing that you hadnβt noticed him sneak down the stairs. After startling you enough to get a flinch, heβd cackled and told you that you were lucky he hadnβt come here to kill you.Β
You hate to admit it, but he was right.
Dinner that night starts off routine. Itβs one of the few times besides nighttime that all seventeen of you are in the same room at once. No oneβs going to pass up on Tojoβs food, and considering how hard it is to tell her no, none of you want to be the first to suggest eating separate from the group. Your spot between Gonta and Hoshi goes unchallenged. By now, you and your fellow students know who you want to spend your time around.Β
Still with a lingering ache in your hands from having them tensed at the controls of the casino machines for hours, you settle with your elbows on the table (sorry, Kirumi) as you sip your water.Β
Youβre half-listening to Tenkoβs excited (and tragically one-sided) conversation with Yumeno when Ouma calls your name.Β
βWhat are you going to spend all your casino coins on?β
Youβre caught off guard by that. You arenβt saving for anything so much as attempting to get anything done in this awful place. People like Akumatsu and Momota are keeping up their training to do what theyβre good at and youβve been pretty much left on your own to find anything that will leave you with a sense of accomplishment.
Besides, any thoughts you had about getting that gourd insect trap had been suppressed quickly.Β
β¦ What? He wouldnβt exactly have much use for it here.Β
Despite being seated at the opposite end of the table from Kokichi, Momota hears the question and perks up.Β
βThatβs where you get off to? Not exactly the most relaxing place to spend your free time.β
A grin stretches across Oumaβs face. βMy thoughts exactly. Thereβs so much noise in there, itβd be all too easy for someone with bad intentions to sneak up on you.β
You take a breath and pass Hoshi the salt shaker, silently returning to your drink. Ouma doesnβt need to be reminded that you think heβs the person with the worst intentions here.Β
Sensing you arenβt taking the bait, Kokichi shifts his attention abruptly. βAny luck on your bug hunt, Gonta?β
You shift your gaze from Ouma to Gonta as the latter slumps in his seat beside you.Β
βNo, nothing yet,β he pouts. βGonta could have sworn there were tiny bugs outside. Maybe microscopicβ¦β
βSo youβre not busy! Greatββ
Youβre used to Kokichi being rude; your limited interactions with him have been quite enough for you to gather the kind of person he is. Youβre decidedly less prepared for him to attempt to help you.
βLike I was saying, if youβre completely focused on Salmon Fishing, youβre not exactly on the lookout for any suspicious characters. Wouldnβt it be best if someone could be a bodyguard for our resident gambler?β
Momota is gracious enough to exchange a glance with you. Thereβs always an ulterior motive with Ouma, and youβre hardly the only one whoβs noticed.Β
Before you can call him on it and press him for answers as to why on Earth he would want to, A: keep you of all people from harm and B: assist you in spending more time with Gonta, the man beside you is already nodding eagerly.
βGonta wonβt let anything bad happen. Gonta would be perfect for the job!β
Knowing that reminding Gonta about your afternoon routine would just cut his bug hunt short, youβd planned on just sticking around outside the next day. No such luck. After pulling you inside the Academy to eat lunch with him, Gonta happily joins you on your walk to the casino. Watching him take in the building with wide eyes as you enter, it occurs to you that he might not have spent time in here before. Itβs not like you see a lot of your classmates join you when youβre here, but watching him study the machines after you descend the stairs makes you wonder if youβre the only one who shows up here on a regular basis.Β
Pondering whether or not itβs worth it to move off of βkindβ difficulty for your first few rounds of Outlaw Run, you sense Gonta settling next to you. Heβs not looking over your shoulder at the game, but glancing around the floor and settling his gaze on the stairs up to the buildingβs entrance, evidently taking his βbodyguardβ role seriously. He glances back at you and gives you a smile when he notices your eyes are on him.Β
β¦Cool. Thatβs fine. You wanted this, right?
After a couple hours of going back and forth between machines, Gonta gently sets a hand on your arm before you can start another round.Β
βDinner will be ready soon.β
Right. You canβt spend all your time here. You glance at your coin counter and think back to the insect trap that youβd looked at the first time you came here. Youβve got coins to spare, and even outside of your excitement that Gonta is spending his time with you, it means a lot that heβs now taking half his day to look out for you while you hole up in here, away from the world.Β
Gonta blinks up at you from where heβs settled cross-legged on the floor next to you as you hold out enough coins to buy the gourd insect trap (and then some). Itβs barely a third of what youβve racked up in just a few days.Β
βThereβs a prize counter upstairs with stuff thatβs not in the school gacha. Get yourself something nice, okay? If youβre going to spend your time in here watching out for me, Iβd like to at least get you something to say thanks.β
He says your name softly as he reaches his hand over to yours, but doesnβt take the coins yet. His hand is cooler than yours after your marathon of casino games and you feel warmth spread in your chest at his touch.
βYou donβt have to do that. Gonta is happy to spend time with you.β
You figured heβd be hesitant to take the coins; heβs too good of a person to not feel the urge to give something back when receiving a gift. You try to brush past the second part of his statement, hoping he wonβt notice that youβre probably a bit too happy to hear that from him.Β
You assure him a few times and shoo him up the stairs with a promise to meet him in a couple minutes once youβve finished your last round for the day.
Youβre cracking your knuckles and shaking the tension out of your hands out as you ascend the stairs to find Gonta, not holding the insect trap, but a teddy bear.Β
A little surprised, but reasoning that he probably likes traditionally cute things almost as much as he likes bugs, you comment, βI should have known. It suits you.β
He fails to meet your eyes and you pause, following his gaze to the bear in his hand.Β
βActuallyβ¦ Um. Gonta thought you would like the bear. Itβs for you.β
β¦Oh.
Well. That wonβt do.Β
You brush past him and he begins to stutter out the beginnings of an apology, but you stop him before he can spiral. Or before he can get any redder.Β
βJustβ¦ hang on.β
The sound of an object being dispensed and the accompanying sound effect come from the prize counter. You turn back to Gonta and hold out the gourd insect trap.Β
He takes in an excited breath and allows you to hand him his gift. In return, you take the stuffed bear. When you meet his eyes, theyβre the same color as the red ribbon around the toyβs neck.
On the way back to the Academy through the courtyard, Gonta reaches for your hand and loses his nerve twice. Ascending the stairs near the dorms, you finally make the decision for him and intertwine your hands. The lingering blush on his face makes the warmth you felt in the casino return to your chest. Gonta, ever the gentleman, opens the door for you on your way into the school building, and you try not to grin too hard.
And promptly suppress a scowl as you remember that you have the brat to thank for the attention.Β
Author's Note: I love Gonta to death but between how unique his personality is and the choices made surrounding his speech for localization, I am not at all confident in writing dialogue for him.Β
Whatever ulterior motive Kokichi has for setting up Gonta and the reader isnβt really part of the story. If you subscribe to the belief that Kokichi genuinely sees Gonta as a friend, it could just be that he wants to be a wingman, but I also imagine thereβs probably some plot Kokichi has that would be easier to execute if Gonta wasnβt keeping watch over the courtyard.Β
I couldnβt resist the idea of them getting gifts for each other. I want to involve the gacha machine in Kiiboβs setup story but the idea of including the casino prizes in this one popped up in my head and I couldnβt not include it.Β

The rays of the sun kiss Komaeda's lashes as he opens his eyes to look at you, and he smiles. You place a kiss on his forehead, no longer needing to hear his answer. You already knew the answer. The fact that he could sleep well around you was more than enough of an answer.
"It's always been at peace around you," He moves a hand to your cheek, pressing a kiss to your lips. "As it will continue to be."

okay. this is a tricky one.
i know it's a popular opinion that, because of how much nagito loathes himself, he would never confess to the object of his attraction. i don't necessarily subscribe to this idea, because he does confess to hajime in the game (albeit in a roundabout way).
my thoughts are that nagito tries to keep it to himself.
he really, really does. he tries his hardest to convince everybody, including you, including even himself, that he has no favouritism for you. that you're another spectacular ultimate, but that's it.
vehemently denies having further feelings for you than that, though he's asked often if that's the case.
he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable, and he thinks that you knowing that he does have a crush on you can only make you uncomfortable. he cannot fathom the idea that you might even like him back. it literally never even crosses his mind.
so he bottles it up. and no matter how much it pains him to see you get along with other people, other ultimates, other people worthy of hope, he keeps to himself. he offers a soft, encouraging smile and nothing else.
until it becomes too much.
i think he'd wait until he knew it would be the last time you'd see each other for a while. perhaps right before you went on summer break, or even the last day of school. he asks you to wait until you are alone, until everybody else has gone.
and he tells you, with tears shining in his eyes and an urgent flush on his pale cheeks, that you are the most magnificent person he's ever known. that your hope exceeds every bound he placed upon you, that you ever bothered to associate with trash like him was far more than he deserved. he doesn't let you speak until he's finished.
he tells you he loves you as though he's signing his death warrant.
when you tell him that you love him too, he's shellshocked. he thinks you must be lying, or that you must pity him. unless you're willing to stand there for hours convincing him, he's going to leave thinking you were just trying not to hurt his feelings.
if he does finally come around to realising that you're sincere, it might just break him. he'll fall to his knees, finally letting himself sob, wondering what he ever, ever did to deserve this. if not, he'll leave you with an encouraging, bittersweet smile, and assure you that you have nothing to feel guilty about.
