~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
A lot of things had changed over summer, your relationship with Isaac was one of them.
Before the final semester of your junior year came to a conclusion, you decided to finally share your true feelings about your closest friend, Isaac Night.
The truth is, you had wanted more than friendship from him for a long time, but Isaac never showed any reciprocation of your feelings.
Isaac always had bigger things on his mind than a romantic relationship, keeping up with his friendships with you and Gomez was more than enough for him.
With your confession, came Isaacâs utter confusion. He had never expected a confession of such devotion from his closest friend, thus catching him off guard.
He sputtered, trying to make sense of your revelation.
Your last conversation ended in a shouting match, your voices echoed through the trees of the forest surrounding Nevermore Academy.
But as you stormed away from an infuriated Isaac, you hadnât known that he had once considered the possibility of the two of you becoming more than just friends.
At the time he had considered it, Isaac immediately shut down the idea, as he was sure you would turn him down anyway.
~~~
Summer was the hardest part of it all, you had held back from dialing the phone number you had engraved into your mind years ago.
The troubling thoughts and feelings you were always able to spill out to him were instead kept bottled up and closed away.
It was a very lonely summer.
Isaac was no better, while he normally sat and talked with you about the books you were both reading, he instead read in silence without your silly comments about his choice in literature.
After your confession, and a deep conversation with Gomez he came to realize the warm, fuzzy feeling that came when you were near was affection.
Deep adoration and affection.
But his affection slowly turned to an obsession.
He wanted to be the source of your happiness, your smile, the reason you got up in the mornings. He shivered at the thought of that being someone elseâs job.
After you had finally shut down the feelings you had for Isaac, he started to call. Your fear of saying something wrong or making things between you two worse kept you from answering.
Isaac started to write letters, when you hadnât answered his calls, putting his thoughts about you onto paper made things easier.
Although he never sent these letters, the thought of you reading them made something tense in his clockwork heart.
Was it excitement? He wasn't sure.
Now you walked through the gates of Nevermore, ready for your senior year, holding the hand of Jace, a popular, burly werewolf.
You told yourself you liked him, that you had forgotten about Isaac over summer break, but there was always a nagging feeling at the back of your mind telling you that this wasnât right.
Isaac was right. Isaac was quiet and gentle. Isaac sat in the library and studied with you. Isaac let you hang out in his lab while he worked. Isaac let you complain about your problems and didnât try to solve them for you. Isaac felt right.
Jace was ignorant and loud. Jace was a bully. Jace never sat with you while you cried or listened when you complained about your problems.
Isaac did. He always did.
But it was time for a change, you decided.
Classes made keeping your mind off of him difficult. Although the only classes you shared were Outcast Biology and Botanical Sciences, Isaac somehow crossing paths with you in the hallway during every passing period almost made your blood boil.
You werenât exactly mad at him for not reciprocating your feelings, it was an outcome you had expected, but the fact that he could never escape your thoughts was what irked you.
~~~
Unknown to you, Isaac had been watching.
He had watched your first date with Jace. He saw you two walking together on move-in day. He saw you walk together in the hallways.
It made him sick
But who was to blame right? He was the one to leave you hanging when you confessed your feelings to him.
He would just have to find a way to get rid of Jace Hawkins.
~~~
By the time leaves started to fall, you started noticing things.
Occasionally some of Jaceâs belongings would disappear into âthin airâ as he called it.
It was always small things, CDâs, comic books, a shirt or two. Jace always brushed it off as just his forgetful memory.
Another thing you noticed was his staring.
Isaacâs piercing, whiskey brown eyes always found yours from across the quad, in classes, in the hallways, at lunch.
Then, something that started to almost confirm your suspicions, was the small things that showed up in your dorm room.
A few small flowers, a vintage jar, a music box, a small perfume bottle.
Now a normal person would just assume a secret admirer, but you had a feeling you knew exactly who it was.
And it was no secret.
Isaac Night was trying to wedge his way into your life again, you were sure of it.
Only a man like him would leave black satin dahlias, or a music box that played Symphony No.7; Allegretto By Beethoven.
Only Isaac Night knew what kind of perfumes you preferred and how you collected vintage items.
~~~
As the temperatures became frigid and the months progressed, these seemingly small things became more and more aggravating.
The flowers left in your dorm persisted, so did the little trinkets. Jaceâs things still kept disappearing, now it became things like his homework, a few dollars here and there, lighters.
At this point you were sick of it, but you still couldnât bring yourself to confront Isaac.
Knowing what happened last time, you didnât want to risk getting your heartbroken again.
Part of you secretly enjoyed it, the attention, the gifts, feeling like Isaac still cared.
It made you miss him.
~~~
He stared across the quad with his jaw clenched and his hands balled into fists.
He channeled so much rage he was sure it was visibly radiating from him.
He watched as you sat with your perfect boyfriend, shoulders touching and legs brushing.
You watched and listened with a gentle smile while Jace animatedly told a heroic story with big hand gestures.
God. He knew he could make you smile like that.
You didnât need Jace. What you needed was him.
He wasnât just angry at Jace, he was angry with himself too.
How he turned you down that night, when the stars burned bright and the gaze of the moonlight had made your face look angelic.
It wouldâve been the most perfect night to finally feel your lips on his.
But he screwed it up. He failed you.
He almost jumped out of his skin when he felt a soft tap on his shoulder, âJesus! Francoise!â He groaned, âDid you have to sneak up on me like that?!â
âSorry! Will the lunch I brought you make up for it?â She grinned.
âSorry Fran, Iâm not hungry.â He grumbled as he turned his gaze back to you.
She followed his gaze, âReally Isaac? Just talk to her! Youâre going to drive yourself mad!â She groaned.
âI canât! Sheâs always too busy with that stupid boyfriend of hers!â He lied.
He knew your schedule like the back of his hand. He knew you had plenty of alone time in the afternoon while Jace was at fencing practice.
He wished he had the guts to approach you, but he knew when the moment was right he would confront you about his feelings.
He just had to find a way to get rid of that cocky boyfriend of yours.
Then, a vile idea popped into his head.
The perfect plan to rid Jace from your life, at least long enough to give him a chance.
~~~
The final straw that broke the camel's back was at Jaceâs fencing tournament.
You watched as he lunged and jabbed at his opponent in awe, this was where he truly shined.
As co-captain of the team alongside Morticia Frump, Jace rarely made mistakes, there usually wasnât a match he didnât win.
But with 30 seconds on the clock, his opponent went in for an attack and Jace took a counter-step, his back ankle twisted.
No, not twisted.
Snapped.
He fell to the floor immediately, clutching his ankle and writhing in agony.
You quickly stood to your feet from your spot in the bleachers, hand covering your mouth.
The coaches urgently rushed his opponent and the other foilists nearby out of the way.
You stood in shock as you watched the ambulance take your boyfriend away.
Morticia spoke kind words and rubbed your back as the two of you walked back to Ophelia Hall.
~~~
The rest of your night was quiet.
After you barely spoke more than five words in the span of half an hour, Morticia decided to leave you alone.
You stared at your plain dorm walls until the light faded from the sky.
Suddenly, waking you from your trance-like state, was a rapid knock on your door.
You hesitantly crept to answer whoever was knocking at such a late hour.
Leaning against your doorframe with a shit-eating grin was Isaac Night.
âIsaac?â
âHello dove, did you enjoy my little âTour De Forceâ in the fencing hall earlier?â He said, sliding his tongue across his bottom lip.
ââŚYourâŚwhat? Whatâwhat do you mean by that Isaac?â
âOh nothing my dear, just.. your boyfriend's little show earlier wasnât an.. accident per say.â His grin widened.
Your jaw dropped so fast you were sure Isaac would have to pick it up off the floor for you.
You blinked in utter shock and disgust, âYouâYou did that?! You snapped Jaceâs ankle?!â
âDonât fret my dove, heâll be just fine in about 3 months. You wonât need to be worrying about him anyways, heâs not your problem anymore.â He hooked a finger under your chin to tilt your face up to his.
You shook yourself from his grasp, âIsaac, why the hell would you do that?!â You shouted.
âI just needed to get rid of some⌠unnecessary baggage.â
You gaped at him as he stepped further into your room, slowly shutting your door behind him.
âYou see, I havenât been very present in your life these last few months because I was afraid of my own feelings. I wanted to make it up to you.â
He sounded so gentle and sincere that it beat against the wall of distrust you had formed.
âYou wanted to make it up to me by breaking my boyfriend's ankle? Does that sound okay to you?!â You shouted.
âIt doesnât make sense right now, dove, but soon it will.â
It happened so fast there was no way for you to stop Isaac from cupping your cheek and pressing his lips to yours.
Your reaction time was counter active as you recoiled from him, you placed the palms of your hands to his chest to keep him at a distance.
That tender brush of his lips on yours almost changed your mind right then and there.
This is what you had dreamed about months ago, what had stirred in your mind during restless nights.
Even with Jace, the thought of Isaacâs lips on yours sent electrifying shivers down your spine.
And even though you knew it was wrongâŚ
it felt so right.
You held his gaze for a moment longer, âWhat the hell was that?â You muttered.
âYou donât know how long Iâve waited to do that..â His blissful grin widened.
Your mind fought with itself.
Now, as much as you cared about Jace, the reason you started dating him in the first place wasnât because you liked him.
You used someone who showed you attention to fill the void of Isaacâs unrequited affection.
After months of being together, you grew to just be fond of Jace, to enjoy his company.
Those several months were filled with hollow âI love youâsâ and senseless touches that you imagined were Isaacâs.
You had been dreaming of this moment for years. Yes, the circumstances were absolutely terrible, and you were still enraged with Isaac.
But the feeling of his soft lips on yoursâŚ
It was everything Jace could never give you.
Isaac watched with satisfaction as the disgust left your face, the hands that were supposed to keep him at a distance curled into his crisp white button-up.
He reached to cup your cheek once more, âMay I?â He whispered tenderly.
You hesitated for a moment, before giving a trembling nod.
He leaned in and connected his lips to yours in a slow, careful manner.
His other hand pressed possessively into the curve of your waist, deepening the kiss.
You complied, bringing one of your hands to the back of his neck, entangling your fingers through his curls, giving a light tug that produced a light groan from his mouth.
Isaac backed you up until your backside was pressed against the foot of your bed and he stood between your legs.
He was much more gentle than you had ever expected.
You had known he was always a bit of an aggressive and intense guy, your interaction just before that proved it, but he handled you with such compassion it made you breathless.
His grip on your waist tightened as he tugged you closer, catching you off guard as you let out a small noise of surprise.
You felt him smirk into the kiss as you slipped your tongue through the barrier that was his lips, vying for dominance.
The two of you finally broke apart, breathless.
Isaac rested his forehead against yours, both of your faces were flushed red with dilated pupils.
âIâve spent months wanting this.â He growled.
The intensity in the room and the enthralling feel of your hands digging into his back made his clockwork heart tick louder.
He press you down slowly until you were lying on your back with him over top of you.
âWe shouldnât do this. I really shouldnât be doing this.â
âBut here you are.â He smirked.
âYouâre right, God I hate when youâre right.â You giggled as he leaned in to pepper kisses down your neck.
And somewhere between hatred, obsession, and devotion, you both found exactly what you were searching for.

Authors note: sooo some parts of this i really hate. like i had no clue how to write the ending, it took me like half of today to write the last three lines im so serious.
This will likely be edited later on, but i really hoped you all enjoyed this. and i would love feedback! If i end up editing i will make sure to let you guys know in advance.
If you have any ideas or requests for Isaac one shots please feel free to share! the only thing iâm really not up for writing is smut, or any really weird concepts.
So, i currently have two different drafts for the isaac oneshot im writing. they have two different plots (in the beginning at least), but both follow my concept.
i would love if you guys were to tell me which one you would prefer!
concepts below!!
Concept one- you accidentally confess to isaac when you confront him about his obsession with saving francoise. he draws himself back and starts ignoring you. over summer you meet a new guy and use him to distract yourself from isaac. after this plot stays the same as original concept.
concept two- you normally confess to isaac, he kinda freezes and freaks out, youâre both angry with eachother. summer starts and you find a new guy to distract yourself from isaac. but isaac realizes the feelings heâs felt for you were love (??) which turns into obsession. same concept after this.
so they may sound pretty similiar but to me theyâre different.
the only real difference is the level of isaacâs obsession and the way reader confesses.
personally i prefer concept 1 and it may be easier to finish/write but i have more written for concept 2.
anyways thanks guys please share your opinion!!!!!!!

i had a thought earlier while listening to animals by maroon 5, that made me very motivated to writeâŚ
iâm thinking a isaac x reader one shot where they used to be friends but they had an argument/falling out over their feelings for one another. reader starts dating/talking to another guy to try and distract them from their feelings about isaac, but the reader just canât stay away from him.
i totally think if i locked in i could have this out by like monday (ish)
