What a thing to ponder.

In truth, canonically, it doesn't look the best for them. They are so headstrong and dedicated to their own causes. Jose I can see maybe, just maybe, forsaking the Baden name upon undercovering all his father's misdoings and connection to the massacre. Perhaps, once pride settles, he'd be willing to forge a new name for himself. A new legacy, and that would be one with Sam.

Sam, however, would stop at nothing to assist Demi. No force, no man or much of anything could shake his resolve. Demi is his reason for living. Demi is the only reason he's alive, really. He would never turn his back on her. He would give his very flesh and bone if she needed it.

Jose would have to be content with a long, fruitless chase, thriving on split-moment glances and fleeting touches. But for a man so accustomed to power and glory, would it really be enough?

Then there are AU's. Perhaps, somewhere, there is a universe in which, under the influence of drugs, Sam Bourbon grows selfish and loses track of what's important. Or, alternatively, where Jose is involved and works along Sam in the manors goings on, ensuing what may be the most toxic, codependent relationship in fiction. They are two shipwrecks, crashing and colliding along the rapid waters they were both born into.

How does Sam feel about Alice, given their lore ties? Is he indifferent? Neutral? Does he enjoy her at all? Etc.

Oo, good question!

To me, a base level of indifference is integral to Sam's ability to complete his work. After all, if he were too emotionally invested, how could he enact the experiments? Speak of her like a subject rather than a person?

However, I think he, too, sees the parallels between her to Demi and him to Orpheus. It'd be lost on the untrained eye, but every so often, perhaps a particularly hard day, he'll give away a slight frown and furrow of his brows. Perhaps allow her to rest her head beneath his chest between split-second transfers from laboratory to Vilhelm. Or, when he's truly losing it, snapping at his colleague, demanding they unhand her or treat her with more respect. Perhaps he would hallucinate her as Demi.

Dipping more into theory territory:

If he did assist in Alice's escape, then perhaps the Sam Demi once knew overpowered the forced indifference mandatory for the manor's inner-workings. And, if this reached Vilhelm's ears, it would bring ruin to everything he worked for. To Demi. Would it be a sacrifice worth taking?
