It happens when you least expect it.
Not during a doctorâs appointment.
Not when youâre paying attention.
Not when youâre ready.
Youâre sitting on the couch, one leg tucked beneath you, a blanket draped loosely across your lap. The TV is on, but youâre not really watching itâjust letting the noise fill the space while your mind drifts somewhere else.
Lately, thatâs been happening more.
Your thoughts pulling inward.
Settling around one thing.
One constant.
Your hand rests absentmindedly on your stomach, fingers tracing slow, lazy patterns against the fabric of your shirt.
You donât even realize youâre doing it.
It just feels natural now.
Like your body knows before your mind does.
The apartment is quiet.
Still.
Peaceful in a way that makes your shoulders relax just slightly.
And thenâ
You freeze.
Completely.
Your breath catching mid-inhale.
Becauseâ
Jay is a master at saying the filthiest but also sweetest things to you in bed.
Youâre clinging to him for dear life at this point, sweat glittering on your skin as your lips part in a silent cry, the breath stuck in your throat as his cock drills into you.
He isnât the fast and hard type, no. Heâs slow and firm and specific with his movements. His angling his hips to fill you as much as possible, reveling in the fact his stretching and filling you to the brim.
âSuch a good little slut, the way youâre taking me right now,â he praises, touch soft as he brushes the damp and sweaty strands from your forehead. The only sounds you can make at this point are the soft whimpers and grunts as his hips meet yours, toes curling and nails biting into his broad back.
His only response is a smile, hand cupping your cheek as he bottoms out inside you and stays in place, humming at the way your hips buck and squirm against his, grinding yourself on his cock in a pathetic attempt for more, more friction, more pleasure.
âCanât even talk, youâre so fucking gone, hm?â He brushes his thumb over your bottom lip and leans down, hips grinding with yours as he whispers. âUse your words, babygirl, come on. What do you need?â
âN-Need you, need to cum, please,â you babble, nails dragging down over his chest and leaving angry red marks in their wake. Your walls are fluttering around his shaft, a creamy ring coating the base of his cock as your hips search for friction.
âGood girl, thatâs all I needed to hear,â he praises, hips suddenly picking up the familiar rhythm as he fucks into you. âJust gotta be a good little slut and ask for it, yeah?â
Your answering moans and cries fill the bedroom, the accompanying lewd sounds of his cock drilling you and hips meeting with a slap filling the background.
âI know, baby, I know,â he coos as his fingers find your clit, circling the swollen bud and only adding to the overwhelming pleasure youâre drowning in. âYou can take it, darling. Cum. Cum for me.â
And heâs bringing you right to the edge and guiding you through it, cursing and groaning as your fluid gushes over his cock. His own orgasm follows suit shortly after, his deep groans and grunts are muffled and far away, your ears ringing and vision blurring as the wave of white heat takes over.
And after, heâs entirely soft and sweet, kissing over your face and cleaning you up like he didnât just wreck you, like your legs arenât shaking and useless now. Like you didnât just squirt all over his cock and leave a mess on his sheets.

___
It was supposed to be a one-night thing. Something reckless. Something youâd laugh about laterâfiled away as a mistake wrapped in passion and bad decisions.
But now, standing in the harsh bathroom light, none of it felt funny.
You could still remember himâhis hands, the heat of his touch, the way his lips traced down your neck like he had all the time in the world. The way you let yourself forget everything else.
You were never supposed to see him again.
Your fingers tighten around the plastic stick as your eyes stay locked on it, your breath coming shallow and uneven.
Two pink lines.
Your stomach drops.
âNoâŚâ you whisper, but the word barely makes it out.
Your body goes stiff, like if you donât move, it wonât be real. Like you can somehow freeze this moment before it sinks in.
You sink down onto the closed toilet lid, your legs suddenly too weak to hold you up.
Pregnant.
The word doesnât feel real. It doesnât feel like it belongs to you.
Your mind racesâfast, chaotic, overwhelming.
Doctorâs appointments. Money. Telling people. Your future.
Your plans.
Everything you thought your life was going to look like suddenly feels⌠distant. Like it belongs to someone else now.
Your hand moves unconsciously, resting against your stomach.
Nothing feels different.
And yet everything is.
A shaky breath leaves your lips.
âHow am I supposed to do this?â you whisper, more to yourself than anyone else.
Because this isnât just a mistake anymore.
Itâs permanent.
By a man whose last name you donât even know. A man you have no way of finding.

You were laying in bed. You were in so, so much pain you could barely move, and you definitely couldnât sleepâyou were in too much pain.
Jay was laying next to you in the bed, sleeping. You guys were partners in the intelligence unit and really good friends, and as of three months ago you became a couple. You guys finally confessed your feelings for one another and started dating. It had been an amazing three months full of cute, happy moments: late-night talks, going out on dates, or just staying in, watching movies and cuddling.
But beneath all those sweet moments, you were still hiding somethingâyour endometriosis. Youâd never told Jay, mostly because you were embarrassed and honestly a little scared of how he might react. You didnât want to freak him out or be a burden for him, so you kept it to yourself.
Carefully, very slowly, you got out of bed, trying not to wake Jay. You didnât want to get up, but you needed the bathroom and you also needed to grab some pain meds. So you took those first, taking the max dose and hoping theyâd kick in as soon as possible. Then you went to the bathroom, and a really bad cramp hit, dropping you to your knees. It was so bad you couldnât even breathe through it, and it wouldnât stop.
So you decided to just lay there for a bit, hoping the meds would kick in. You started to cry, your shoulders shaking as you tried your best to muffle the sound. You just wanted the pain to go away.
You donât even know how long you lay there, crying and sniffling, but out of nowhere you heard a soft knock on the bathroom door. Jay had still been asleep when he reached for you, only to find cold sheets instead, and that woke him up. He got up to look for you, worried, and then he saw the bathroom light glowing underneath the door. He knocked again, a little louder this time.
âHey⌠you okay in there?â
His voice startled you, so you immediately wiped the tears off your face and steadied your voice as much as you could.Yeah, Iâm good. Just⌠going to the bathroom.
You prayed he couldnât hear the shakiness in your voice, but he could. You guys had been partners for years, plus dating for three monthsâhe knew your voice better than anyone. Hell, he thought it was one of the most beautiful things about you, and you definitely did not sound okay to him.
His voice came out soft but worried. âAre you sure? You donât sound like yourself.â
âYes, Jay, Iâm okay. Go back to bed. I will be there in a minute.â
You heard him sigh behind the door, not in annoyance or angerâjust worryâbut then you heard his footsteps move back toward the bedroom.
After a bit, you went back to bed. The pills were finally helping to just barely take the edge offâjust barelyâbut at least it was something. You crawled in on your side and felt his arm wrap around you. It didnât surprise you that he didnât fall back asleep, but you were really hoping he hadnât heard you, though.
âAre you positive youâre okay, baby? You were gone a while⌠you know you can tell me anything, right?â
For a moment, you considered telling him, letting him in, but your thoughts got the better of you. What if he thinks Iâm gross? Or that Iâm too much work? Or that Iâm weak, a crybaby? Heâs been through so much during his time in the Rangers, and youâre crying about your stupid cycle.
âUm, yeah. I know. Thank you, but Iâm fine.â
Eventually, you were able to get a little sleep.
Morning came way too quickly. You moved slowly, getting ready for work, still in pain and trying so hard not to let it show. Jay was at the kitchen counter, watching you carefully, sipping on his morning coffee. His brow creased every single time you winced, no matter how subtle you tried to make it.
âHey, you sure youâre good to go to work today?â he asked gently, but you could hear the worry in it.You nodded immediately, without any hesitation. âYeah. Just tired.â
The meds were starting to make you really groggy, unfortunately. Jay didnât believe a single word. You werenât okayâhe knew thatâbut he couldnât figure out why. He let out a quiet sigh but didnât push it right now.
The ride to the district was quiet, the silence only filled by the music playing through the radio that was hooked up to Jayâs phone.
When you and Jay walked through the doors of the district, you felt a warm blast of heat hit you, and you loved it compared to the freezing temperatures outside. You hated Chicago winters sometimes.
Trudy looked up from her paperwork and looked directly at Jay. âOh wonderful, my morning headache has finally decided to show up.â
You snorted before you could stop yourself. She looked at you and immediately softened. âAnd you, my favorite detective in the whole building. Good morning, sweetheart.â
Your shoulders relaxed a little. âGood morning, Trudy.â
She leaned forward on the desk, lowering her voice. âSo tell me⌠did he drive like a normal human today? Or were you two seconds away from filing for emotional damages?â
Jay blinked. âI can hear you, you know.â
âAnd I want you to,â Trudy shot back without missing a beat. Then she looked at you again. âSo? Blink once for acceptable and twice for near-death experience.â
You laughed. âIt wasnât that bad.â
Jay pointed at you. âTHANK YOU!â Then crossed his arms again.
Trudy patted his arm like she was consoling a child. âRelax. We all know you try your best.â She turned back to you with a genuine smile. âYou need anythingâtea, backup, a new partner to escape from Mr. Broody over hereâyou come see me and I will handle it for you.â
Jay scoffed. âOkay, why am I the villain today?â
You laughed a bit, shaking your head as you headed toward the stairs. Jay followed, muttering under his breath about how she adores you and hates him.
âShe doesnât hate you,â you responded.
Behind you, Trudy called out, chuckling, âOh, and donât stress her out today.â
Jay groaned, and you smiled. Then the day officially started.
You kept busy at your desk, diving into paperwork and avoiding walking. Anytime you got up, pain would shoot through you. After a little while, you got up and went to the break room to make some tea and also to take another pill, hoping maybe it would kick in quicker this time.
You thought you were doing a good job hiding taking the pain pills, but you werenât. Jay had been watching you like a hawk, still thinking about last night and this morning. He saw you taking the pills out of your pocket and shaking another one into your hand, how your shoulders tensed, how you pressed your lips together like you were holding your breath through something, how shaky your legs seemedâalmost like they wanted to give out.
By the time it hit noon, he counted three times you had taken pills. Heâd had enough. He wanted to know what was going on.
On a break, he approached your desk and leaned against the corner, lowering his voice low enough so only you could hear. âBabe, thatâs the third time today youâve taken pills.â His voice wasnât accusing, just soft and genuinely worried. âTalk to me. Whatâs going on? Let me help you.â
You kept your eyes locked on the file in front of you, afraid that if you looked at him you might break, so you did what you always doâhide it and lie.
âJay, Iâm fine. I just get bad headaches sometimes. Itâs nothing.â
He crouched down and turned your chair so you would face him and look at him. âYou barely slept last night. You locked yourself in the bathroom, and I swear I heard you crying. Youâre really, really pale. Youâre shaking, and youâre taking pain pills any time you get a chance.â
He reached for your hand and held it gently. âBaby, please. I want to help you, so let me help. Whatâs wrong?â
Your heart twisted, your throat tight. God, you wanted to tell him, to let himâbut you were so embarrassed, and you were so scared of how he would react. You couldnât look at him any longer. His eyes were pleading, like he was begging you to tell him what was going on.
So you stood quicklyâtoo quickly. Your head spun from the migraine you had, but you ignored it. âI said Iâm fine, Halstead. Now focus. We have a lot of work to get done.â
Then you walked off.
He stared after you as you walked away, worry eating at him. He could see you were in pain, but what was hurting you? Was it serious? And most of all, why werenât you coming to him? You both always went to each other, even before you were dating.
He was determined to figure it out. He made a mental note to get you to talk to him later. He refused to let you go through something alone.
By the end of shift, the pain was eating through whatever pain meds you had left in your system. It felt like a knife twisting and stabbing, even traveling to your back. It was awful. Your head was throbbing; it hurt to even blink.
Luckily, it was a chill dayâno big casesâso you didnât have to go chase anyone down. You mostly just did paperwork and reports like everyone else, but still, you just wanted to go home, get a heating pad, and sleep.
Jay had been watching you like a hawk. Heâd been waiting all day, hoping you would come to him on your own, but he looked like he was two seconds away from dragging the truth out of you one way or another.
Finally, Voight came and told everyone to go home. That was the best thing you heard all day.
You were getting ready to head out, but then you rememberedâyou rode with Jay, and youâd been staying with him while your apartment was being worked on. You completely spaced it out.
Just then, he came up and put his arm around you. âHey, you ready to go?â
You gave a small nod.
The ride was tense, but you stayed quiet. When you made it to his apartment, you immediately went to the bathroom. When you came out, Jay was standing by the kitchen counter with a determined, stern look on his face.
âOkay, thatâs it. Enough hiding. Whatâs going on?â
âNothing. Iâm fine.â
Just then, another hit came, and you couldnât stop the wince that escaped. Jay shook his head. âSee that? Thatâs not fine. So stop lying to me and tell me whatâs wrong.â
Before you could argue, your whole body clenched, pain shooting down your legs and up your back. It was the worst one yet. You leaned forward, gripping the table hard. A choked sob left your throat, and your vision blurred.
Jayâs face fell instantly, replaced with worry. He rushed to your side. âWhoa, heyâY/N.â He grabbed your shoulders gently to steady you. âTalk to me, baby. Whatâs going on?â
Your eyes were clamped shut, a tear slipping through. You were so humiliated. âNothing. Itâitâs stupid.â
âSweetheart, look at you. Youâre in pain,â Jayâs voice cracked a little. âJust tell me what hurts.â
You finally gave in. You werenât getting out of this. You swallowed hard, your cheeks hot. âItâs my⌠cycle. I get super bad cramps.â
Another wave hit, and you curled in on yourself. Jay didnât hesitate. He put one arm behind your back and the other under your knees and gently, slowly lifted you into his arms like you weighed nothing.
âOkay, câmon. Weâre getting you somewhere comfortable and off your feet.â
He set you gently on his couch, grabbed the softest blanket he knew was your favorite, and a pillow. Once he got you settled, he crouched in front of you.
âHow long has this been going on for?â
âIt started the other day,â you whispered. You sighed, finally coming clean. âI have endometriosis, and it gets really bad. Itâs always like this⌠I justâI didnât want to freak you out or gross you out or make you take care of me like Iâm a burden. I know itâs stupid. You went through awful things overseas, and here I am crying over my stupid cycle.â
He stopped you right there. âHey, whoa. Y/N, slow down. Youâre spiraling.â
You stopped, but you couldnât bring yourself to look at him. He gripped your chin gently and made you look at him. He looked at you like youâd just said the most backwards thing ever.
âOkay, firstâyou are not a burden, and you never will be, baby. You donât get to minimize your pain. What I went through over there doesnât cancel out what youâre going through, or your painâever. Pain is not a competition. You are allowed to ask for help and feel pain.
âI didnât start dating you because youâre invincible. I started dating you because I love you, Y/N. Youâre the best thing thatâs ever happened to me, and I want to help you. I never want you to suffer aloneânot when Iâm here.â
You almost didnât believe what he was saying. âI just didnât want to gross you out.â Your voice was shaky, and you were crying.
Jay had a small smirk and reached up, wiping your tears away with the pad of his thumb. âBaby, I have seen blood. It doesnât bother me.â
Before he could continue, you cut him off. âBut itâs messy and painful. It gets so bad sometimes I canât function. I didnât want you to have to deal with that, Jay.â
Jay shook his head. âSo you mean being human? Being a woman? Because thatâs what this is, and itâs normal. I promise you, sweetheart, Iâm not grossed out. None of that stuff bothers me. So please, just let me help you from here on out.â
You smiled and nodded, wondering how you ever got this lucky to have him as your boyfriend.
Jay smiled too. âThereâs that beautiful smile I love. So, where do I start? What can I get you? What normally helps?â
You were hesitant at first, but you could see in his eyes that he truly wanted to help. âWell⌠a heating pad helps sometimes, and maybe some hot tea with honey, if you donât mind.â
He was already up and moving. âI donât mind at all.â
He got the heating pad, plugged it in, and placed it on your belly. Then he went to make some tea for both of you. When he came back, he set the mugs down and looked at you sweetly.
âWhat else can I get you, sweetheart?â
You shyly said, âCuddles? And a movie?â
âNow that I can definitely do.â
He got on the couch, held you, cuddled you, and put on your favorite movieâthe one Jay always said he hated, but you knew he loved and was just trying to tease you about.
After a little while, you looked at Jay. âIâm sorry for not telling you sooner.â
Jay looked down at you. âYou donât have to apologize. Just please promise me you wonât hide anymore and you come to me next time?â
âI promise.â
You fell asleep halfway through the movie and later felt Jay carefully and gently take you to bed, tuck you in, and crawl in with you. Half-awake, you mumbled, âThank you.â
Jay barely understood you. âYou never have to thank me for taking care of you. You felt him kiss your forehead. âGoodnight. Love you.â
âLove you, Jay.â
Hey I hope you all enjoyed! sorry it took me this long to put something out. I hope you have a good Day!

Heat
Jay Halstead x pregnant!reader
Summary: When Chicago is in a heat wave, Y/n feels unwell while pregnant, worrying Jay
It was definitely the hottest day of the year. Chicago was going through a heat wave and Y/n had never felt more miserable. It also didn't help that she was seven months pregnant with her husband's baby, Jay Halstead. She could feel the beads of sweat falling from her forehead and her face heating up so much that she must have looked like a walking tomato.
Jay warned her to stay at home and protect herself from the heat, but when the air conditioning broke, Y/n decided to go out to buy a fan. But she didn't know it would be so difficult to walk and even breathe on this hellish day. It seemed like with every breath she took, the air burned her lungs. She walked slowly, one hand on her stomach protectively, trying to at least get to the store that was a few blocks away.
This little one shot is inspired by me this morning spraying sunscreen on and getting it in my eye.

The first time Emma gets sick after moving in with Jay
What started as a dull headache in the morning turned to a pounding headache and pain in the back of her neck by the time school finished. Emma thought it wasnât a big deal and asked a friend for Advil at lunch, it helped briefly but by the time the final bell rings, Emma just wants to go home, crawl into bed, and sleep until the pain subsides.Â
A loud knocking on her bedroom door wakes her, but the pain in her head hits nearly as fast. Emma can barely get her bearings before she realizes she feels so nauseous she thinks sheâs going to throw up. She doesnât think she can make it to the bathroom, so she rushes over to the trash bin in the corner of her bedroom. Nothing comes up, but she feels so exhausted she plops down on the floor near the trash bin, her back against the wall.Â
âEmma? Are you in there?â Jayâs muffled voice floats through her closed bedroom door.Â
It takes a few seconds for Emma to gather the energy to respond. âYeah.âÂ
âOh,â She hears Jayâs voice from the other end. âWhat do you want for dinner?âÂ
âNot hungry.â
âDid you eat already?âÂ
âYeah,â She lies, âIâm just finishing my homework.â

Finally, an imagine. I am working through all the requests, slowly but surely, as well as a few other ideas of my own.
This was a request by @alannnina for a halstead!sister who is in an abuse warning.
This is a heavy one and thereâs a few big TWs. So tw for graphic scenes of psychical and verbal abuse. Mentions/hints of rape and sexual assault to minors, as well as a description of what rape is. Lots of misogyny towards women and misogynistic language is used.
I do have ideas for a part two if people enjoy this. Itâs also not fully edited so any mistake please point them out! And without further ado, enjoy!!
"You're late."
You jumped at the sudden intrusion of the silence, knowing it was just Jay, and so let the door slam shut, not bothering to close it quietly anymore.
"I know," You were uncomfortable, you always were when Jay took the authority role, way more so than with Will, "Sorry."
Jay would use his police voice on you, some sort of an attempt to psych you out, or to scare you. You didn't know which was more important to him but you did know it wouldn't necessarily stop you from doing whatever you'd done again. Not know that you knew why he'd use that voice. And, it was Jay, you brother, who you were never scared of because you knew him. You trusted him.
"Jesus, Y/N, where were you? I was worried," Jay dropped the bad-cop act and instead let his voice show emotion, "I tell you a time and you've gotta be back by then."
"I know," You shrugged, "Time just got away from me, I guess."
"Time just got away from you? You're sixteen. That's not an excuse."
"Sorry." You shrugged again, what else were you meant to do?
It was just something that happened to every teenager, a bit of healthy rebellion or just having fun. God knows that Jay must've done that, even if you weren't privy to that stuff.
Jay searched your face, just standing there slightly illuminated by the moonlight coming through the window. Jay hadn't shut the blinds in the living room, he never did.
It was a few more beats until Jay spoke again, "Go to bed. We can talk about it more in the morning. And I mean go to bed, no sitting on your phone or whatever you think I don't know that you do."
You couldn't help but smirk a bit at that one, because you did know that Jay knew, you were way too confident in his detective abilities to assume anything else. But he never told you off.
âYou want me to turn the light on?" Jay asked, his hand reaching up the light switch.
âNo!" You said, a bit too quickly and a bit too loudly and Jay furrowed his eyebrows at you, "No. It's fine. I'm used to the dark."
Jay knew something was up, of course he would now, how could he not? He wasn't going to let it go, and it was going to become harder and Jack was going to become meaner and it was all more things that you'd have to deal with when you were already dealing with enough-
Suddenly the light was blinding your eyes, and causing a headache to begin to pulse in your head.
"Jay, no. I said no!" You tried to turn away from Jay before he could see your face, even if it was pointless because he'd see it anyway, he wouldn't let it go now.
"Y/N," Jay's voice suddenly sounded very, very old, "What happened?"
"You're not angry?" Was the first thing you could think to say. You'd spent so long being angry at recently.
âIt was Jack." Jay said, not a shake in his voice.
âNo," You shook her head, suddenly feeling a very deep need to explain it all before it could get out of hand, "I mean, yes, it was but Jay you don't understand. It's not what it seems like."
âWhat does it seem like?"
âAbuse." It was the first time you had said that word out loud.
âIf it's not then why did you say that?"
You felt hopeless, you felt that returning feeling rising up from your stomach, numbing your body, "It's what it looks like, I guess. But that's not the case, I swear."
âWill needs to look at your face," It wasn't phrased like a question, but Jay was still watching you, and you knew he was waiting for permission.
âOkay but can we- can you not tell him anything. I don't want him to get the wrong idea or anything."
Jay just looked at you.
âââââââââ
"So, I've heard you're having a bit of a tough time recently. You want to talk about it?"
You were sat opposite Dr Charles, it'd been a week since you'd come home to Jay waiting in the dark for her. You hadn't been able to see Jack during that week and so you'd refused to go to school. You'd see him there, is what you said. Really, you just didn't want to go. You hated it and you'd hate it even more with a massive bruise on you face.
Jay had relented almost immediately, and you had your way. You had your phone and you could just leave the apartment during the day. Jack would skip, and then you could explain this all to him and he would understand and it'd all be fine. Some big misunderstanding.
That hadn't happened. Instead, Jay took your phone and when you got it back you couldn't find Jack's contact, nor could you add anyone new to message. Not just on your texts, on anything. And to be honest, you were shocked. You didn't think Jay knew about any of these apps, or at least not enough that he'd know to do all this.
But it was whatever, it was fine. You could still go and meet Jack during the day.
Except Jay had other plans for that. So you went and sat in the break room at the precinct and did work online. You couldn't even leave the room because of all the stuff the team were doing outside. However, true to his word, Jay hadn't told anyone about it. The team were confused, sure, but no one looked at you any differently. Even if they were trying to hide it.
Will, however, had known almost immediately. You had told him he had it wrong, and he didn't argue. Just fixed your face and told you to get some rest. No doubt so he could sit and talk to Jay about you.
"Y/N?" Dr Charles said again, "You with me?"
âSorry," You said, you didn't want or need to be here but you liked Dr Charles and so you would play along, "Just got a lot on my mind."
âI bet," Dr Charles smiled lightly, "So, Will didn't tell me too much. You want to fill me in?"
âSure," You sat forward slightly, putting your hands under your thighs, "It's not a big deal or anything, though. Just so you know."
âThat's fine," Dr Charles smiled again, "Just take you time."
âUuuh," You shrugged slightly, "They think my boyfriend, Jack, is abusing me."
âBut he's not?"
âNo," You shook your head, "It's not abuse. I'd know."
"And, if you don't mind me asking, how would you be able to tell if it was abuse?"
âI'd be scared. Of Jack."
âYou aren't scared?"
You shook your head, "I'm not scared of Jack. I'm scared of the way he acts when his brother is around."
âIs that not the same thing?" Dr Charles asked.
âNo." You said, because it wasn't and you knew that even if Dr Charles didn't.
âAlright," Dr Charles smiled, "I want to talk about Jack and his brother some more, is that okay?"
âDo I have a choice?" You asked.
âYes. Of course," Dr Charles said, "If you don't want to we can have a game of chess, how about that? I already talked with your brothers and I'll see you every week but it will all be at your pace, Y/N."
âOkay," You knew Jay or Will would probably be pissed but Dr Charles was the psychiatrist, not them, "Let's have that game of chess."
ââââââââ
The team had been gone for a while and you were bored. You'd been left with school work to complete, Geography, and you had finished hours ago.
Normally, you'd wander downstairs, maybe say hi to Trudy. But today something felt wrong, deep in your stomach you could just feel that something bad had happened.
Your fears were confirmed when everyone arrived back and Jay had that look on your face and he was trying not to look at you but he still was. And so he was talking about you.
He came towards the door of the break room and you almost wanted to ignore him, pretend you were annoyed with him so he'd go away and wouldn't tell you whatever bad news he had.
âY/N, I need to talk to you." Jay shut the door behind him, so it was just the two of them.
âWhat?" You asked, ready to try and delay things, "Now? I'm, like, busy."
âYou need to sit down," Jay pulled another chair out, opposite yours and so you listened to him and sat.
âIt's about Jack. Y/N, I need you to listen to me."
You nodded, sick of hearing about Jack but the tone of Jay's voice almost made you feel sick.
âHe has a younger sister, right? Sarah."
You nodded, "Yeah. She's 11 I think. I went to her last birthday."
Jay nodded but you knew he wasn't fully listening, "Jack, he hurt Sarah. She's in the hospital."
âHurt? What do you mean he... hurt her? Like he hit her or?"
âHe did something much worse, Y/N. I can't tell you the details but he hurt her."
âIt was because of those videos, right?" You couldn't stop the words from spilling out because if you had just told someone then maybe Sarah wouldn't be hurt.
You had known the videos were bad news but you'd just say and watched them and nodded and agreed to what Jack said to appease him.
Maybe he hasn't abused you. But he'd hurt Sarah and he had hurt you. Even if that wasn't him. It wasn't the Jack before his brother showed him videos. It wasn't the Jack that you knew Jack was.
But it had been Jack who had hit and punched and strangled and apparently really hurt his sister.
âVideos?" Jay frowned, leaning in closer to you, "What videos."
âUm. He used to show me these videos that his brother shared to him," You said slowly, not looking at Jay, "They were of these men and they were saying stuff about how your girlfriends should behave. How women should behave. I just, I thought that, that..." You trailed off because you didn't know what you thought. You didn't fucking know.
Jay paused for a second before talking, obviously realising this was progressing to something that may need to be recorded, âY/N, Kim is going to join us." Jay said and you nodded. That was fine. Kim was fine.
Jay gestured through the window on the door and Kim came in, smiling at you and pulling a chair up. Jay spoke to her in a low voice and she nodded
âY/N, can you tell me what the men in these videos said?" Kim asked, "You can stop if you feel uncomfortable."
You bit the inside of your lip, "I guess. For Sarah."
âY/N, you don't have to do anything you don't want to. But it would help."
You nodded, "I know, so I'll tell you."
You didn't know where to begin because the videos were all so long and the men in them all had their own ideas and opinions but you just said what you remembered. Starting slowly and it all came tumbling out afterwards.
âThey said your girlfriend should do what you want. If she didn't, you should punish her. Like, hit her or slap her. If she misbehaved too often then you should get her to count the bruises. Tell you what they were for. If you want to kiss, she should kiss. If you want to.. have sex, then she owes it to you. You shouldn't let her speak out of turn, or be rude to you. You shouldn't let her mock you in public and she should just let you show her off."
Jay had written most of it down, but you could see where his handwriting had gone weird, or messy. Presumably because of the things you were saying.
âThat's really helpful, Y/N. If it's okay could you tell us about an instance of where Jack hurt you?" Kim asked, smiling at you.
You shrugged, "I guess."
Kim nodded for you to go ahead and so you did, but not before taking a deep breath.
âWe went to a party. One of those massive house parties you see in the films. I was 15 so it was like, 6 months ago I guess..."
âI didn't know these actually existed!" Y/N clung on to Jack's hand, looking around the room.
There were people everywhere, they were even holding those little red cups that the teens do in the movies. Fuck yeah. You were one of those teens now.
You and Jack both grabbed your own red cups, filled with some nondescript alcohol that burned your throat when you drank it.
After saying hello to your friends, Jack led you over to a group of boys on the sofa. You recognised a few of them, being Jack's older brother and his friends.
They whistled lowly when they saw you, one going as far to wolf whistle. It made you feel uncomfortable and you went to look at Jack to let him now but he wasn't looking at you. Instead he was beaming over to the group of boys. Looking like he was showing off a trophy.
And so you didn't say anything, letting Jack pull you down on to his lap. You tried to move off, to have your own space but he held on to you tightly and tilted your face over to his.
âGimme a kiss, baby." He said, tapping his cheek.
You did as he asked but it was weird. He'd never called you baby and he'd never asked you to do that and he had never acted like this with you in front of his brother.
After giving him a kiss he pulled you back down, kissing you. His hands made their way to your dress straps, pulling them down and there was whoops on the background and what the fuck was Jack doing?
You pushed him off of you, "Jack," You hissed, "What are you doing?"
âHe, like, shoved me off his lap then and his brother said something to him. But I was trying to pull my dress back down and fix it so I didn't really hear. But then Jack dragged me away and I let him because I wanted to get away from all those boys. They scared me."
âI just didn't want to sit on your lap and make out in front of all those people, Jack. They're older than us, it just freaked me out!" You stepped away from him when he shut the door to the room he had dragged you in.
âSo my brother and his friends freak you out?" Jack's eyes were little slits and you would be lying if you said you weren't a little bit scared. But you were mostly annoyed, very annoyed.
âThat isn't what I said and you know it." You shook your head, "I'm going to go find Katie or someone, I'll see you later. There's no point us hiding down here fighting."
Jack grabbed onto you wrist and you turned around, your eyes already rolling, "Jack, c'mon."
Suddenly your back was smacking against the wall and you couldn't even cry out because you were so fucking shocked. You didn't know what had happened.
âJack?" You was staring, wide eyed and his name was the only thing you could get out because what the fuck? And your hands were shaking and your voice was, too. And you felt a bit sick.
Jack pressed his forearm against your throat, cutting off your air supply slightly, "When I want to make out, we make out."
âJack?" You said again, it was all you could say and you instantly wished you hadn't when Jack pressed his arm harder and okay, now you couldn't actually breathe. At all.
âI could knock you out, right here. I'm in charge, bitch."
You didn't know what to do and your entire body was pulsing with fear because you were so fucking scared. You'd never been so fucking scared before in your life and all you could think was that you were scared.
âDo you understand. Y/N!" Jack barked your name at the end and you opened your mouth to speak but you couldn't because he was pressing against your throat too hard.
Jack laughed then, and let his arm come away from your throat a bit, "Stupid bitch."
âYes," You gasped out, "Yes, Jack."
Jack smiled then and stepped away, "Good girl, Y/N. I'm sorry I had to do that but you embarrassed me, y'know. My brother and his friends, they'll laugh at me if you don't listen to me. They barely believe I have a girlfriend, it hurts."
You held your throat, trying to ignore the pain in it and the ache in your chest from the lack of air and listened to what Jack was saying to take your mind off it.
âPlease don't tell anyone. I was just scared. I act out when I'm scared and I'm sorry....."
"... I won't do it again. I promise. I'm sorry." Y/N recited the words Jack had told her that night, still avoiding looking at Kim or Jay.
âI knew then I wasn't going to tell anyone."
âWhy, Y/N?" Jay said from beside you.
You stiffened slightly, "Because he was right, his brother was a dick to him. And it was easier. I loved him. I really did, and I didn't want to lose him."
âHow often do you think these events took place?" Kim asked, still not looking at you any differently.
âIt wasn't like... regular or anything, it was just here and there."
âCould you tell us a few more of the instances? What he did and what happened before and after?" Kim asked gently.
âYeah, I guess," You didn't know where to start, what would be most helpful to Sarah's case, "Uh, the night I got back late. We... I just told him I had to go, because it was late. But I'd told him I'd ask Jay if I could stay round, even though I knew he was going to say no. Jack got mad that I couldn't, I guess. I said I had to go and started to leave but Jack followed me downstairs and we argued for a bit. Then his brother, Aidan, was stood in the kitchen right next to us. He was laughing, or smirking, I think. And then Jack got angry. I mean, so angry."
âWhy do you love to make me into an idiot, huh? What the fuck is wrong with you?" Jack was in your face and you wanted to get away from him but there was no room.
âJack, I don't- I don't do that. I just, Jay he'll be angry I can't stay." You spoke as quick as you could, needing to get the words out.
âWow. I wouldn't let my girl speak to me like that, Jack. Mine would be apologising." Aidan called from the back of the room.
You closed your eyes, wanting to get out of this situation.
âHe's right. You love to make me look like a fool, why are you denying it?"
âI'm not-"
The slap came so quickly you ended up hitting the wall behind you harshly, biting your lip to stop yourself from crying out.
âYou are, you bitch." Jack hissed, spit hitting your face.
âI'm sorry," You forced out, "I'm sorry I don't think you're stupid. I love you, Jack. I'm sorry. You're right, I do."
âI am right," Jack nodded, "You should be grovelling."
Aidan started towards the two of you, talking as he came, "She admitted it. So she needs to be punished, little brother."
âI'm sorry." You said again.
âHow many bruises does she have this week?" You heard Aidan say to Jack.
âI don't know," Jack turned to you, "How many bruises do you have, bitch?"
The number was burned into your memory, it always was, "Seven. I have seven. I'm sorry. I swear, I'm so sorry."
Neither boy listened to your apologies, "It's eight now, I guess." Aidan shrugged and then clapped his little brother on the should, "You're the boss." He said before smirking at you and walking away.
You shrunk away from Jack, "I'm sorry, I won't do it again."
He rubbed a hand over his face, "I don't want to do this, Y/N! But I have to. You have to be better, okay? You understand that?"
You nodded, "I understand." You sniffed, preparing for the hits to come.
Jay looked like he was ready to leave, whether to cry or to kill Jack, you didn't know. But he was on the edge of his seat, his eyes small and his leg moving. He never jogged his leg unless he was seriously upset.
Kim was hiding her true feelings, you had no doubt, "That's really helpful. And I'm sorry that happened."
You shrugged, not replying.
âI need to ask you a quick question, okay Y/N," Kim said, and you nodded, half knowing what Kim was doing to say anyway, "Did he ever force you to have sexual intercourse against your will?"
âNo," You shook you head, "We did, uh have sex but it wasn't rape. He didn't, like hit me to make me." Y/N almost blanched at the word rape and the fact that Jay was sat right next to you as you were saying all this.
Kim leant forward, ever so slightly, "Did he ever pressure you into having sex, and I don't mean did he hit you. I mean did he tell you you owed it to him, because you were his girlfriend? Or did he just keep saying he wanted you to make him feel good? Maybe you refused at first but eventually agreed because Jack seemed like he really wanted you to?"
You clenched your jaw, "That's not rape, okay? It wasn't rape it was just a girlfriend helping out her boyfriend. And I don't want to," You turned to Jay, "Can we stop? I'm finished I don't want to do this anymore?"
Kim stood up before Jay replied, "I'll leave you two here. You did great, Y/N. It will really help Sarah."
Kim left and you and Jay sat in silence for a few seconds, and you knew he was going to say something but you had to first.
âI don't want to talk about it right now, Jay, okay? You can send me back to Dr Charles and I'll took to him tomorrow but right now I just- I just want to ask you something and then I want to go home. I don't want to think about this anymore today." The tears were coming to your face and you wiped them away angrily, "Why did Jack do it? To Sarah? To... me?"
âWe can't know for sure yet, Y/N but those videos you described? It sounds like they radicalised him." Jay answered, focusing on your question and for that you were grateful.
âHe's just a kid. How can a kid do all this?"
Jay took your hand suddenly, squeezing it tight, âWhat he did wasn't okay, Y/N and we will get to the bottom of it. But you don't need to worry about him anymore."
âBut there's going to be a trial, right? For Sarah. Maybe for me. This is going to be hanging over my head for years until it's done. And I just want for Jack to be gone. I don't want this to have happened to me, Jay."
Jay pulled you into a hug and you clung on to him, the sobs coming so suddenly you could barely breathe.
âYou don't think these things, do you? That the men said?" You had to ask him, you had to know.
âWhat those men said is wrong. It's not true. I will never, ever expect anything from you or from Hailey. Or from any other women. I will never look down on you. I will never punish you, or Hailey. I swear to you, Y/N."
You believed him, you'd always believed that. But you had to ask because you had to be sure. You had to know that there were men like your brothers out there, among all the bad.
You'd have to face Jack and a trial. You'd have to tell people what he'd done and what you hadn't done. You didn't have a choice.
But you did have two brothers who loved you and who didn't blame you. Not only did you have them, you had people they worked with who were basically a family. Who would all fight to support you.
Nothing was okay right now, but with the love from the people surrounding you, you believed it could be.

The first thing that registers is the sharp throb of a headache that radiates throughout your forehead, intense biting stabs that make you wince even in the haze of your semi-consciousness.
The second thing you notice is the heaviness in your limbs, your eyes feel sensitive to the light and your absolute reluctance to move is the giveaway that you hadnât fallen asleep on the couch in a natural or peaceful way.
Soon the memory of your intense nausea and shaking came back to you. There are vague memories of you trying to make it to the couch but not quite managing it - slumping into the arms of your brother, Jay, who luckily happened to be heading to the kitchen.
Your blood sugar must have been in the tank, causing you to pass out. You started seizing soon after, leaving Jay to holler out to Will who was in his bedroom to bring the emergency kit that he kept for when you stayed over.
The third thing that comes to you is that the âpillowâ beneath your head was not a pillow at all, but rather the muscular cushion of someoneâs leg.
There's a hushed murmur of conversation that you can't quite concentrate on when a clearer voice reaches you, âCome back to us, kiddo, open those eyes.â
A gentle hand cards through your hair, brushing stray strands away from the clamminess on your forehead - it sparks a flurry of warm memories of being cared for, of being protected, from childhood right to the very present.
The owner of the voice was simultaneously irritating for asking that you wake up, but also soothing upon registering it to be the voice of your brother Will.
âMngh, no. Hurts.â You mumble, turning yourself to face the back of the sofa, trying to somehow make Willâs leg comfier to rest your head on.
Your brother chuckles, squeezing your shoulder, âI know, I know it does, but I need to make sure the glucagon is doing its job.â Ah, yes, the magic of glucagon, the thing in charge of keeping your blood sugar in check, especially after a seizure.
âYou finished napping yet?â Another voice comes from the direction of the kitchen, and you huff, playfully punching Will in the knee.
Will sulks as he pays for Jayâs teasing remark, âHey! What was that for? Iâm not the one accusing you of napping.â
You groan as you try and sit up, squeezing your eyes shut as the headache zings behind your eyes. âMh, youâre closer, otherwise heâd get it.â
âHe deserves it more anyway, heâs the one that stabbed you.â The voice is closer to you, on the couch, by your other side. Jay makes yet another joke as he tries to keep the mood light, wrapping an arm around you to steady you in your newly upright position.
âHow are we doing, sweetheart?â He asks softly, being more sincere now that he was taking a look at you. You were groggy and in discomfort - seizures often took it out of you.
âPeachy.â You grunt, opening a weary eye to see Jay offering you a sandwich and a bottle of water. Something with carbs was always advised after a seizure, and Jay was usually the one to take care of that department, he always made the best sandwiches. âThanks, Jay.â You murmur, sitting still as you slowly snack on your recovery food taking sips in between.
Jay's warm palm moving in small circles on your back is a safety blanket for you, feeling the tension between your shoulders and at the base of your neck begin to melt away.
You answer Willâs questions as you let him take the new readings with a finger-prick test, the method he swore by due to the delay in a glucose monitor reading.
Jay had taken that time to focus on looking out the window, moving his view away from the needle.
Will does what he needs to do with the lancet, pricking you for a sample of blood.
Like a well-practised dance, Will takes the test strip with your blood and inserts it into the meter, waiting for it to provide a reading, whilst you hold a small piece of gauze to the prick on your finger.
Will sighs, humming in concern.
âThese levels arenât what Iâd like, Y/N, if it gets worse or you start to feel like youâre gonna seize again, weâre going to Med.â
Jay turns back to you at those words, a grimace on his face, knowing that your reaction to Willâs decision would be emphatically in opposition.
âWill, seriously? No way, I hate that place, Iâll be fine!â You try and stand up to prove your point, only to feel the world swim and your legs fail to cooperate.
âWoah, hey.â Jay is quick off the mark, hooking his arm around you to bring you back down to the couch.
You glance at Will whoâs got his hands out to steady you too, you involuntarily scowl at his âTold you so.â expression.
âA little backup would be nice.â Will addresses Jay, scratching at his head as he wonders whether he should just take you to Med now, not missing the way you try to act like youâre not moments away from passing out again.
âDonât look at me, youâre the doctor and the bad cop in this situation, I get to be the good cop when it comes to medical emergencies.â Jay seems rather smug and it makes you laugh half-heartedly despite your exhaustion and shakiness, both you and he shared a deep disdain for Willâs place of work.
Youâre trying to get up again, not really sure where you want to go or what you want to do. A fog of confusion shimmers in your mind, and before you know it Will is grasping your shoulders, looking at Jay.
âLay her down on the floor.â Will commands, and Jay wastes not a second in obeying. He shifts to support your head and gently encourages you to lie down on the floor, giving you one of those stern yet loving looks as you try and resist. Heâs watching worriedly as your eyes wander erratically, knowing youâre trying to fight whatâs coming.
âItâs alright, Y/N, just-â Jayâs about to encourage you to let it happen, to let them take care of you when your whole body goes limp. Jay holds you steady, turning you on your side as you begin to convulse again.
Will moves back to his kit, preparing a secondary dose of glucagon, thereâs little Jay can do but stop you from hurting yourself as you ride it out.
Your brothers share a look as Will injects you in your upper arm, thereâs an unspoken agreement that there is no choice but to take you to Med now, they needed to get this under control in a secure environment with additional solutions available - even if that meant youâd be in a sour mood later, they would take it.
-
The second you consciously smell the air after waking up you let out a disgruntled groan, you knew exactly where you were - and it wasnât Will's apartment anymore.
You were indeed at Chicago Med, and more specifically in the diabetic clinic on the third floor - a space you were unfortunately all too familiar with.
âHey kiddo, you with us?â A gentle voice pulls you to open your eyes properly, scanning the room briefly your gaze settles on Jay sitting on the chair beside your bed, smiling at the sight of you finally awake.
He had his detective badge around his neck.
Observant as he was trained to be, he clocks the question on your lips, and speaks before you can ask, âVisting hours were over a few hours ago, so was shift change - so I may or may not have implied it was a police matter of importance that I was here with you.â
You laugh groggily, but then it falters into a frown, softly chastising your brother. âJay, I shouldnât get special treatment.â
Jay chuckles too, you were always conscious of not using his job nor Willâs to get any kind of tenuous form of preferential care. Your self-awareness was something he admired about you.
âI know, Iâm sorry, sweetheartâŚâ Jay pauses, scratching at the back of his head. âBut uh, Will got called in downstairs, and I couldnât sit at home alone knowing you were up here alone too⌠You worried me today, Y/N.â Thereâs a somberness in Jayâs eyes, he didnât do well with not being able to have control over a situation, and not being able to help fully was one of his biggest struggles.
Your eyes soften, carefully reaching out a hand to hold Jayâs. âBig brother, Iâm alright, theyâre really great at what they do here, Iâm sure theyâre gonna figure out how to keep me on a safer track with all this. Iâm feeling better, I promise.â
Jay shakes his head with a smile, despite your disdain for the hospital you had always done better than him. âWhen did you get so wise?â He teases, squeezing your hand gently.
âIâve always been wise, thank you very much.â You snipe jokingly, taking mock offence to the idea that you hadnât always been of sound logic and optimism.
âYes you have, you definitely get that from me though, not this guy.â Willâs voice catches your attention, he was now in scrubs and had you giggling a little more as he poked fun at Jay.
Your other brother studies you with his medical eyes and then his worried sibling ones, approaching the free side of your bed. He smoothes out the flyaway hairs atop your head, giving your shoulder a squeeze. âHow are we doing, kiddo?â
A yawn escapes you, still holding Jayâs hand as you shrug, reaching for Willâs hand too, âMuch better. Iâm sorry I caused such a fuss. Do they know whatâs going on?â
âNothing to be sorry for, Y/N.â Will reassures, âThey think you might have overdone it this week with the extra shifts you took on after school, your body couldnât keep up.â
You sigh with an understanding nod, it didnât surprise you that was the cause of your problems, âI thought I was doing a good job of keeping up, guess not.â
Will gives you a reassuring smile, âHey, itâs alright, sometimes we canât always get it right. You know you can always ask me or Jay to help you keep track or reassess, itâs not a bother.â
âNever a bother. Itâs not even a question.â Jay chimes in, squeezing your hand gently.
Listening to their reassurance made you feel more relaxed for the first time in a few days, knowing that it was okay to take it easy and rely on your brothers a little more than you had been lately. âThanks, guys. I guess you are pretty good brothers after all, even if you did stab me with needles and drag me here.â
The two of them laugh at your slight pout, Will looks at you with that smug face, âSweetheart, sorry to say but weâd do it again and again if it meant getting you better.â
âAnd I carried you, actually, there was no dragging.â Jay corrects, feeling smug.
You huff, but youâre smiling too, slapping at both of their arms playfully, âFigures.â

Followed
Hey! I've had this idea floating around in my head for a little while now and finally got it out on paper. Halstead! Sister is followed while trying to go to a coffee shop. Hope you enjoy reading and stay safe out there y'all, it's a wild world we live in unfortunately.
âWhat are your plans for today?â asked Jay the minute you walked into the kitchen.Â
âWell good morning to youâ you sassily replied while walking to the fridge to grab the milk.Â
You were off from work and had been looking forward to this day since last Monday.Â
âHmm, I was thinking of maybe going and visiting an old friend from the old neighborhood and then maybe get coffee from my favorite spot before returning home and lounging and doing nothingâ you answered while sinking your spoon into your cereal.Â
âSolid plan. Remember if you need me for any reason and I donât answer, call Al.â
âAl?â you questioned when you swallowed your cereal bite. âUsually you tell me to call Hailey.â
Swiping his keys off the counter, Jay looks at you and says, âVoight switched up the partners this week and Iâm with Al while Hailey is with Kevin, so I repeat call Al if you need me and I donât answerâ
âOkayâ you mock saluted.Â

Authors Note: I got about 2000 words into this before i remembered that americans have different cars to kiwis. Hopefully, any mistakes are fixed but if they're not, it's because kiwis drive on the left side of the road not the right.Â
When you first got your driver's permit, Will and Jay wouldn't let you drive without them. Even though you had completed the course and passed the driving test, they still didn't want you driving alone. Which wasn't an issue really, when you didn't have your own car anyway.
Now you have had your license for almost ten months. Will let you borrow his car from time to time. Today was one of those days. A friend from school lived outside of the city and Will had let you borrow his car to go see them. The drive was only about 45 minutes, not too long with your music blasting. Will and Jay were both working late, so you stayed for dinner with your friend and then started the drive home. It was 7 pm at least by the time you hit the road. The temperature was already 8 °F and only grew colder.
