Okay, now that Iâm properly awake and have stuff to say,
Hello! I was initially gonna pretend it wasnât me and that someone had stolen Colm from me, but I feel like it was pretty obvious (looks at one mun in particular), so hi there! Itâs me again! Kano Muse Part 2: Brat Edition (endearing).
Anyways, the Colm that Iâm playing has no clue how he got here (as he should), but heâd like to get back (or, you know, we can throw some Magvelians (Magvellians?)Â his way and get him to stay haha [Neimi muns I summon thee!!]). Heâs gonna get attached to someone here, Iâm certain of it.
Also, heâs from, like, immediately after the war and assumes an A Support with Neimi and at least C Support with Moulder (others are up in the air until a mun for them rolls around but yeah).
Anyways, thatâs all I have to say!! Thanks for dropping by~!

âOh yeah, I was!â (But how would he know that? Does that mean they met in Magvelâ)
Oh. (He literally just said his name.) Lyon. As inâ
Ohhhhhhhhhhh.
âOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so thatâs how I know you! Youâre that Grado prince! I thought you died.ââbewilderment, free of distaste, before realizationââUrghâ sorryâ That was probably insensitiveâ Umââ
(Just take a deep breath. You can fix this!)
âWell, I canât say I really knew you well beforeââhe waves his arms aboutââall that, but it seemed to me that Eirika always thought you were a good person, so could you have really been that bad?â
âI meanâ maybe, but I dunno. I donât see you trying to blow up the place or anything.â (Again, he offers his hand.) âWe can be enemies without anyone being a bad guy, yâknow?â
âSo?â
lyon blinks and stares at the younger man. that's... that's not the reaction he expected. not the casualness of it, much less being quickly apologized to.
"not at all," he manages to interject with a shake of his head, astonishment of his own likely matching colm's. lyon takes no offense in voicing such an assumption; there's no reason to. why would he when he had closed his eyes in what seemed like finality, believing it had been it? it's only understandable no one from magvel would have anticipated his survival...
ah. eirika. while lyon's heart aches at the mention of her name, he focuses on something else colm mentions. his brow furrows. eirika thought he was a good person? but why...? hadn't ephraim disclosed everything he knew to her? that their friend had commited every atrocity out of his free will? unless... ephraim hadn't told his twin sister for one reason or another.
"..."
lyon knows he could tell colm he's not a good person. he's not kind or anything else eirika may have said. but opening his heart to a near stranger, now an acquaintance, has never been him. thus, lyon doesn't.
violets flutter closed before opening again, a soft, genuine laugh leaving his lips. "i suppose so," lyon relents. this time, lightning meets fire as his hand takes colm's, allowing a new flower to sprout. "though i don't think i am currently your enemy... the war isâ should be over."
âOh, well, of course,â Colm admits. âItâs been over for a while nowâunless something happened while weâve been out here?â (He certainly hopes not.) The boy shrugs. âI dunno. Either way, the whole âenemiesâ bit was kinda talking about the past I guess.â
Which is a good thing, he thinks. After all, if being enemies was a thing of the past, that meant they werenât enemies anymoreâand that was always good. Peace, like his namesake, was something Colm valued after having fought through so much war.
âSay, Lyonâ(actually, do you prefer Prince Lyon, or nah?)âhave you tried any of the pastries they have here? Theyâre really good! A friend and I tried a bunch of them earlier and they were super tasty! Theyâve got all kinds of flavors, you know.â
âWe should try them!â Colm huffs, proudly. âYup! Thatâs what weâre gonna do!â
And so he drags the prince towards the concessions, intent on giving him baked goods.
Rusalka is an idyllic territory by the coast. Itâs easy to see why anyone would be captivated by the sun, the sea breeze, and the high, rocky cliffs overlooking the shimmering ocean. The people in the port city seem friendly enough, but few seem to recall seeing any knights around lately. This is the biggest city in the area though, so someone is bound to come through at some point. With the shopping and the weather as good as it is, no time like the present to have a little vacation while you wait for leads then, right? Beach day! Maybe even try your hand at what the locals call âsurfing.â [Grants Riding +1]
âUhâŚâŚ Iâm decently lucky, I think?â the boy muses. Really, though, he was just mad skilled. (Skill isnât really all that helpful here though, is it?) Skill probably isnât what saved him in Lark either.
ââŚWell, lucky enough, at least.â
The thief shakes his head before suggesting, âWe should steal their training techniques! It canât all be talent, so they have to practice somehow!â With elaborate hand gestures, he continues, âAll we have to do is tail them, watch them train, and then use their secrets to get super good in time for the contest!â With a punch to the air, he punctuates:
âTheyâll never know what hit âem!â
Of course, thatâs when fortune smiles upon them, with one of the other locals approaching to help. (Sure, there was always going to be the stealing secrets plan, but even Colm would admit itâd be better to source their knowledge elsewhere, if possible.)
âThat works too!â he exclaims, clapping his hands together. âSo, where do we start?â
âWell, do either of you have any experience with surfing?â
âNope,â Colm deadpans. âNot at all.â
ââŚIn that case, we should probably get you some equipment first. You canât surf without a board at the very least.â
Colm nods. That would hurt, and he doesnât even want to imagine the pain that would inflict. A massive metal bolt falling on, like, your toes or something? Tables are bad enough! Ballista bolts are just like that, but. You know. Just one leg. And metal.
Yeah. Thatâd definitely hurt.
He gets a similar satisfaction when the bolt is finally wound up, although he shakes his hands far more violently then Teach does. (Heâs a delicate little guy with delicate little fingers! He doesnât like yard work.) Having done it as part of a pair, Colm has decided that solo-navigating a ballista is indeed impressive. (Wow! Who wouldâve guessed?)
Itâs a bit of a surprise to hear his partner is a knight of all things. (Or, maybe that makes sense?) The instructor seems to be a pretty chill guy, so Colm wouldâve guessed his partner would have similar vibes. Complementary and all that, right?
Knightliness works too, he guesses. Like an opposites attract sort of situation? (Could that be why Teach was even a Teach at all?) Hm. Brain food. The remark about him being a crybaby gets a chuckle out of Colm though, for sure.
The boyâs gaze follows the instructorâs, landing on the same targets as well.
âThat is sort of how war machines work? You aim them at folks.â
Then the realization kicks in, given. well. he hadnât really given it much thought.
âUhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I hope. notâŚâŚâŚâŚâ
Python blinks at the target across the field a few more times, until its sloped edges become abstract enough that he stops imagining a studentâs uniform adorning it and allows his sense of reason to catch up with him. An elite academy wouldnât cull its own student population down like that, anyhow. Thereâd be far too many angry lords knocking down its doors for cutting down their lordlings.
His fingers glide over the solid, heavy wood of the trigger mechanism, crafted to hold the tension of the massive bolt until its released. Itâs antithetical to everything that he knows about archery to aim with the weapon already tense and ready to fireâthe only benefit he can imagine to assigning an experienced marksman to this thing is his sharp vision. He glances over to his current protĂŠgĂŠ, taking in the way the boyâs gaze cuts from one target to the next across the field.
âYou seen a lot of these in use before?â He looks past the boyâs eyes now, taking in the rest of his features: messy dark blue hair, a face that still holds the softness of youth at the edges. The kid is young, but he speaks of war like heâs seen it with his own eyes. âCanât say theyâre common where I run around these days. Most villages canât afford to pay somebody to lug one of these monsters up on their walls, I s'pose.â
Heâs supposed to be the instructor here, he remembers, and he leans an elbow against the device with a sigh.
âBeen years since Iâve touched one of these, s'what I mean. You wanna do the honors here?â
Teach steers the conversation elsewhere, and Colm is happy to follow suit. The less dead people he had to think of during his school days, the better off he was, really. (On the battlefield was one thing, but thisâ These grounds werenât made for real warfare.)
âNot a whole lot,â the boy supposes, memories drifting back to his year or so before the monastery. There had been just a few battles in particular where ballistae had made themselves known. âWe didnât really purchase them either,â he clarifies, âIt was more like the villages already had them, and we used them whenever they were available.â
âThey are pretty big thoughâprobably expensive too.â They were just full of fancy little parts that could break! âIâm not surprised they were rare back where youâre from, Teach.â
Realizing what he was offering, Colmâs eyes light up, with an excited, âYeah! I can do it!â Dangerous though it may be, the boy was still very interested in seeing it work. (Theyâd already cranked it up after all! Why put all that work to waste?) Itâs set up a bit differently from what heâs used to, but if he looked closely, it would start to look more like the ones that Neimi used to use. (The thought makes it much easier to remember.) The thief steps into position, aiming the ballista for one of the less human-looking targets, and then, when he is satisfied, he looses the tension. The bolt goes flying.
The target wobbles back and forth, but ultimately doesnât fall over, instead just letting the bolt pass through. It's a pretty off-putting sight, but that thought seems to be lost on Colm.
âOhâŚâŚâŚâŚ That was really cool!â the boy cheers, looking around for more ammunition. âWe should try firing another!â A pause. âIf youâre alright with that, Teach?â
Young feet step, inexperienced in their motion. With every foot placed down, distance grows between pursuer and pursuant. âŚThere is a clumsiness written into itâa mind more focused on the destination than the journey. In your head, it didnât matter how you got there, reallyâso long as you did, that was all that you could ask.
You duck between some buildings, then past some corners and behind a home. There was no rhyme or reason to your decisions, but you trusted your gut. You hide yourself within the gardening suppliesârakes and compost and other thingsâcovering your ocean blue hair with your hood, hoping to lose the trail of those who chase you.
Time passes, and soon your eyes open from the tightly shut state you had entered them into. Looking out, you can seeâthey are gone, a realization that earns the sigh of relief that follows. Carefully, cautiously, you get up, but itâs awkward. You trip on something, knocking it over as you do. You do not stay long enough for anyone to find you out here.
âŚand time passes.
Your steps are more experienced now, practiced in every motion. With every foot placed down, distance closes between you and your enemies. âŚThere is a precision written into itâa practiced mind focused more on the journey than the destination. In your head, you know where you will end upâfinishing the job. What mattered to you most now were the consequences of your travel.
You could not afford to trip on anything on the battlefield.
You duck between two foes, past their swords and axes and into a more beneficial position. Your eyesâyour incredible eyesâplan two steps ahead, no longer relying on instinct as you had in the past. Your hair blends in with the sky, and your opponents lose sight of youâa fatal mistake.
You do not lose sight of them, instead watching to make sure they are dead first. Only then do you move onâand you do it again, agility entwined with your footprints, spelling letters across the ground.
(Careful now, your journey has consequences. A stumble means cuts, hesitation means blood, and to fall means death for you.) You do not stumble. You do not hesitate. You do not fall.
Instead, you carry yourself with the grace of a dancerâlike Tethys, if a bit more boy-ish. You do not possess her experience, nor can you claim her talent or her skill, but that fails in all attempts to dishearten you.
She may carry what you lack, but you do have the advantage of time. And time passes, but you learn, and you dance. Once, twice.
When the alternative is dying, what other choice do you have?

All things considered, Lloyd raises a good pointâwhatever the case was, he was still hired to be here. (Colm thinks back to the other folks heâs seen aroundâ)
Actually, now that he thinks about it, a lot of his professors are just weirdos. (Not Professor Deirdre though! Sheâs way nicer to him than the others. She was his favorite.)
âHm.â (Then again, itâs not like any of them have killed him, right?) âWell, maybe the Church is just preparing us to recognize strange peopleâalthough, youâre more normal than a lot of the folks here.â
âWhich is really weird! Because youâre not really normal either.â (An obligatory finger point!) âOr at least you donât have normal vibesâI can tell! My eyesight may be my best sense, but that doesnât mean I canât read a personâsââ (Here, he waves his arms around in Lloydâs general direction.) ââyou know?â
âAn anima lightning user, huh?â (Think, Colm. Did you see anything like that on the battlefield?)
There were definitely magic usersâthe guy who beat him was a mage too!âbut he doesnât remember seeing Lloyd out there. (They were probably just in different parts of the field.)
âAlright,â the boy smirks. âIâve got thisâjust watch.â
With that, the boy ducks away into the other parts of the tentâdodging the purple lady, of course. There wasnât any guarantee that the person who defeated Lloyd was here yet, but it was worth looking anyway! After all, this quest served two missions.
See, what Colm neglected to share with Lloyd was that this was a perfect excuse to get away from himâand he had the information necessary to find out who beat him! (Here, he would simply have to find them! Colm is really good at finding things!)
Pelleas almost accidentally squeezes all the remaining cream out of his bun, startled as he was by Colm's outburst.
â Er, y-yes. I, um, suppose I follow...? â Â Pelleas replies, pausing his eating to try and follow the thief's line of logic. Â â ...Actually, I don't think I do at all. Sorry. I didn't mean to lie, honest. â
But now that he was thinking of it, he realizes he does want to know what Colm might've meant by it. What about Pelleas's confession came as a surprise? What kind of impression did Pelleas leave on people?
He knows he's been called many things in this life. Pathetic. Stupid. A momma's boy.
But through Colm's eyes, what did he see Pelleas as? Would Pelleas be afraid to know that answer? Despite that fear, was it right of Pelleas to still feel intrigued?
But the moment feels as if it's passed, Colm showing off one of his knives in a spectacular flourish. It really was hidden.
â Wow, I didn't even see where that knife came from. That's really impressive, Colm, â Â he compliments him. Â â I, um, used to carry a dagger on me too, though I wasn't nearly as quick as you about taking it out. I couldn't imagine being able to do much with it in battle compared to you. â
Pelleas takes the opportunity to finish polishing off the rest of the first bun, reaching for his second one now.
âHehe, thanks!â the boy smiles, then vanishing the knife. (He took a lot of pride in being able to do neat tricks like that with his blades!) âNormally, Iâd say itâs natural talent, but Iâll let you know itâs actually a lot of practiceâyou could probably learn it too!â (Pausing briefly, he hums to himself.) âThough, if you were worried about speed, it seems sort of interesting that you turned to magic?â
âI mean, spells arenât exactly the fastest thing,â he continues, rattling off his thoughts whilst thoughtlessly eating another pastry half. (Oh, this one was really good too!) âEven the fastest mages I knew back home were limited by how quickly they could pull out their tomes, and I figure itâs faster pulling out a tiny blade than a big book?â (Itâs the size difference, you know? And then you have to bring them around with youâ Theyâd be really heavy, wouldnât they?)
âAnd dark magic especiallyâfrom what I can tell, itâs the slowest of the⌠(what was the word again?) the âtrinityâ?â Colm shakes his head briefly, dismissing the term. âEither wayââ
âActually, is magic different where you come from?â he blinks at the other curiously. âI realize Iâm mostly thinking about the way Iâm used to it, but they donât even use staves here! Itâs so weirdâŚâ

Your grip doesnât loosen until Larkâs ashes are far behind you.
And as soon as you let go, she stumbles, although she catches herself before you can steady her. With shaking knees, she pushes her back onto a tree, sliding down into a quiet sitting. Wordlessly, you follow suit beside her, ashen clouds billowing through the sky.
ââŚAre you okay?â
âIâŚâ (She sniffles.) âYâ Yeah, IâŚâ
Youâre not. (You can tell, having known her for so long.) Before long, sheâs crying like she always does, but youâ you get it.
âItâs nothingâŚâ (You see the way her fingers glide over nothing.)
âNo, itâs fine. You can⌠If thereâs something you want to say, Iâm all ears.â
âItâs no big deal, really, I justâŚâ
ââJustââŚ?â (Her hands fall to her sides.)
ââŚâ
You sigh, turning away, exceptâas you do, something catches your eye. (Something abnormal about her, something you havenât seen in years.)
âWhereâs your mirror?â
She doesnât answer, only breaking down into tears againâshe lost it. (Your eyes glide back to Lark.) Those bandits stole it. Your faceâfurrowed brows and a tight frownâgive away your intentions. You stand up.
âColm, wait.â
âItâs okay,â you assure, briefly kneeling. âIâll be alright, I promise.â
âItâs too dangerous, you canâtââ
âJust⌠wait for me, okay? Iâll be back before you know it!â
âPlease.â
But your mind was made up. That mirror was the only keepsake of her mother she had leftâespecially now, after the flames, the destruction, the lossâ
So what if some low-life bandits got their dirty hands on it?
âWhat, do you think this grass is suddenly gonna stop growing?â
âI wish it would sometimes.â
âAnd how would all the animals eat if all the grass stopped growing?â
âWe donât eat grass.â
âYou do eat your veggies.â
(You mumble under your breath that you never wanted to.)
Still, reluctantly, you draw from the shade, settling down beside your father to pull at more grass. (Whatâs the big deal about weeding anyway? Itâs such a pain to deal with.)
âYouâve gotta make sure you weed regularly. If the weeds spread too muchââ
âItâll be bad for the rest of the plantsâ Yeah, I know.â
âI was going to say itâll become more difficult, but yes, that too.â He laughs, knowing you were right. (Thatâs what he normally says anyway.) âBut you understand that much, so I donât see what the big problem is.â (You pull at a tough root.)
âWell, for one thing, itâs boring.â
âAll the most important stuff is boring. It still has to get done.â
âHeroes arenât boring.â
âWell, someone had to make their equipment.â
ââŚâ
âThere.â (Your father dusts off his hands.) âThatâs this side of the yard doneâhowâs your progress, Colm?â
âSame,â you respond, grabbing a fistful of plants that might accidentally include some of your motherâs herbs.
Itâs fine. No one will noticeâ
âThat was fast. Youâre getting better! At this rate weâll be done by sundown.â You squint at the horizon. (Thatâs in maybe an hour?)
âYeah. By sundown.â (He wonât see how little you did once it gets dark out.)
He did see, but it seemed he didnât mind. After all, you were still a kidâthere was no need to be too harsh. (Your mother was slightly upset at the uprooted herbs though.)
Admittedly, youâd let too many weeds grow in the garden that day. Thankfully, the fire took care of it.

She watches carefully as he tries his best to aim, though she has no real clue if heâs figured out the trick to it or not. For the most part she had just been winging it, using only the base amount of knowledge bestowed upon her by watching her brother back when they were children. No matter how much she begged he never once let her hold YewfelleâŚ
Probably for the best.
It doesnât take much of a genius to figure out who the victor wasâŚbut from his own reaction she finds it difficult to gloat. Instead she simply laughs along. âWell, ya ainât wrong! I gotta say, it kinda looks like somethinâ, huh?â She moves closer to the target to get a better look. âAnd Iâll be honestâŚI kinda forgot how the point system was workinââ heck, whose arrow belongs to who? I dunno! Maybe we can just call it a draw and eat our messed up meal with whatever we just got!â
It was clear she was trying to avoid being the victor, instead just enjoying the game they played regardless of who won or lost. âBut next time Iâll definitely be keepinâ score!â
âYeah, I thought the same!â Colm exclaims in response to it âlooking like somethingâ. âKinda like a constellation of an archer! Or just a fork and knifeâŚâ (Would certainly be on theme.)
âAh, good pointââ They probably shouldâve marked the arrows somehowâ A note for next time, he guesses. âThat does make it kind of hard to remember whose is whoseâŚâ
Although, itâs not like he wouldâve disputed which were his (after all, there were only three each), but itâs not like Colm was gonna complain! If this girl was deciding to be nice about winning, he would gladly take that kindness!
âSure! Foodâs food after all.â (A soft laugh.) âThough, Iâll be the one winning next timeâgot it?!â
(And speaking of âthis girlââŚ)
âBy the way,ââhe extends his free hand to her,ââmy name is Colmâwhatâs yours?â
âOh yeah!â Roy! Colm knows that name! (Though, he supposes that currently, everyone does.) âIâm Colmânot Seliph, like those sheriffs seem to think.â With a hint of laughter, he adds, âSounds to me like theyâre pretty bad at their jobsâŚâ
(Colm canât say heâs super duper familiar with Roy, but if a tall, fiery-bearded guy was at the monastery, he definitely wouldâve noticed.)
âYeah, Iâm a bit of a lockpicking wizard myself!â the boy affirms, his voice a slightly lower volume than usual. âAnd Iâd also not like to be chilling here for much longer. Pretty convenient, wouldnât you say?â Although, that didnât really answer what they were going to be doing with their cellmate. Sure, she could just be a normal human, but whoâs to say she wasnât a magician of some sort? Or a monster in disguise?! She could break out the moment the doors unlock! (And what if she betrayed them or something?!)
That whole allianceship thing wasnât sounding too bad right nowâif only to avoid being negatively impacted by âMicaiahâ.
âImpersonations?â âMicaiahâ echoes, incredulous. âBut I am the real Micaiah! Just like how youâre the real Roy, and youâre the real Seliph!â
âNot the real Seliph,â Colm corrects. I literally just said that. (And besides, Colm has way cooler earrings!) âMicaiahâ rolls her eyes with a nonchalant, âSure.â
âMy point here being that we all have been wrongfully imprisoned on the assumption that we arenât who we claim we areâyou, as Lord Roy, me, as Miss Micaiah, and him, asâ well, not Seliph, so he claims.â
âThereâs no need for distrustâtruly! We are all on the same side~!â

It is a matter of sheer willpower, putting everything he has into it and not looking back, that saves the two of them and expels them out of that lake. Blast after blast of Dark Spikes shot to give them the acceleration needed to propel them out whilst keeping the Lady of the Lake at bay, Pelleas exerts a great deal of himself and so when theyâve finally reached up towards the air, he doesnât have the energy left to think of a way to cushion their fall to the green earth theyâd started on.
He simply falls in a flop and a roll, and he takes that moment after to catch his breath, the very effort of doing so strenuous beyond belief. Gasps and coughs line him as water drips down him from everywhere, but his grasp on Colm does not loosenâ not until now when his breathing feels something comparable to normal.
He glances up and back at last once he releases the thiefâs bicep, asking weakly,  â âŚAre you alright? â
He rises, a bit wobbly on his feet as the temptation to fall back down underneath the weight of his drenched clothes, and he peers back at the lake. It was beautiful once, he notes, but it is hardly comparable to his memory of it.
Darkened by the magic within his finger tips, it is murky, a fairytale doomed to its endâ its happy never after.
It feels like layers and layers of nothing but water, the two piercing through it forever untilâ at last, the surface.
They are, admittedly, rather high up, and while Colm could probably break his fall by himself, he didnât actually know how to make sure Pelleas was alright too. The descent begins.
Oh, shoot.
Itâs incredibly improvised, using his free arm to keep them rolling, but it doesnât sound like they broke any bones or something, and Colm felt fine. Maybe bruised, but definitely alive. (It was a good start.)
Wow. They actually just did that. (Pelleas just did that; you just watched and trusted him.)
Which, honestly, wasnât that bad of a choice. Pelleas got them both out alive and in one piece (er, two, but still)! And that magicâ Just, wow. It was the stuff of stories.
âŚNone of those words managed to escape him thoughâjust the sound of desperate breathing after a second almost-drowning. Twice in one day. Never expected that.
âIâ Uh⌠Yeah, Iâmâ Iâm fine.â âFineâ felt like a strange way to describe it. (More aptly, he was glad to be alive.) âUm⌠How are you?â
What a perfectly normal question.
The boy gets up slowly, only after Pelleas starts to stand, briefly reaching for him when he threatens to fall over, only hesitating because Pelleas seems to be holding his own weight. (That mustâve been exhaustingâŚ) Silently, he follows the otherâs gazeâto the murky lake, once pristine and crystalline.
âIâŚâ (He struggles somewhat to find the words.) âSorry.â A pause. âFor dragging you into this.â There was a lot more that could be added to thatâ to truly convey how badly he felt, but even the one word was hard enough to get out. His eyes leave the lake.
